Living at The Union offers many amenities, including the convenience of living where you learn. Steps to Living at The Union at Dearborn 1. Select a Floor Plan - Visit the Leasing Center and Showroom, located inside the Victors Den at The Union or unionatdearborn.com to review floor plan options. 2. Complete the housing application and lease online. Visit: unionatdearborn.com, click Apply, and then complete and submit the application! Upon online submission of the application, you will receive an with a link to your lease agreement. 3. Review, complete, and submit your lease online. 4. Move In Day is September 1 for the Fall semester. 4 Victors Den The Hub of Student Life at The Union The Victors Den is a University-leased space that provides venues for performances, study group sessions, meetings, study areas, and special events. Residents are able to take advantage of the fitness facility, yoga area, half-basketball court and Market Twenty 4 Seven. Also, the House of Maize and Blue and University offices are located within the Victors Den, providing special events and programs for students. 3

5 Individual Leases Every student who lives at The Union at Dearborn signs his/her own lease, which means you are protected if a roommate goes into default or moves out. This provides our residents with peace of mind and allows students to focus their time and energy on academics and co-curricular activities. Roommate Matching and Assignment Roommate matching and assignment are an advantage at The Union. If you don t have roommates in mind, The Union can match you up based on the preferences specified within the Roomate Matching portion of your application. This form requests information about class standing, taste in music, hobbies, and study/ social habits, for example. Students seeking a roommate will be notified of their apartment number and roommates during the summer, prior to move in. You will receive an with your room assignment, and name(s) and address(es) of your roommate(s). If you already know who you would like as a roommate, just let The Union know when you submit your application. Community Assistants A team of Community Assistants plan monthly resident events to get you involved. These events include pizza parties, karaoke nights, breakfasts, and study nights. Community Assistants live at The Union and strive to provide excellent customer service as the first point of contact for residents. They also work to keep residents connected to events occurring on campus so they don t miss anything! Safety The safety of residents is a top priority. The Union at Dearborn is a limited access building. Residents will use their electronic keys to enter the residential buildings and the amenity spaces, as well as their apartments and bedrooms. The Union offers an overnight courtesy patrol officer to assist with nighttime matters and an emergency on-call phone number to connect residents to a staff member when the office is closed. Smoke-Free Environment The Union at Dearborn apartments and rooms, along with the Victors Den student life center space, are all smoke-free. For residents who smoke, there are designated smoking areas available. The entire UM-Dearborn campus is smoke-free. Market Twenty 4 Seven Housed within the Union, Market Twenty 4 Seven is more than food on-the-go for busy people. The unique, self-service market offers fresh deli gourmet sandwiches, premium salads, fruit, beverages like Starbucks coffee, and delicious fresh baked goods! Whether you re looking for a cold sandwich or a hot meal, Market Twenty 4 Seven has everything needed for a great meal during a busy day. The market is open to all during business hours and open 24/7 for residents! 4

6 On-Campus Dining With many fantastic options to choose from, we ve got you covered. Whether it s your morning coffee, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the McKinley Cafe (University Center), Picasso Cafe (Fairlane Center), and the Mardigian Library Coffee Shop offer a variety of meals, snacks, and beverages to meet your needs. We offer two options: 1.) you may purchase a meal card at McKinley Cafe to use at all retail food locations on campus, or 2.) purchase a Picasso Restaurant Group (PRG) Meal Plan. The Meal Plan is designed to ensure that your money is well spent by offering tasty combo meals that will fit almost any budget. Ask our culinary team for details. University Center McKinley Cafe: Picasso Deli, the Grille (serving breakfast, lunch and dinner), the Expo (daily full-meal specials), piping hot pizza, famous mac & cheese, delicious soups, salad bar, grab & go items, assorted beverages, Jamba Juice Smoothies and Starbucks. Fairlane Center: The Picasso Deli features deli sandwich selections, personal pizzas, quesadillas, delicious soups, salads, fruit cups, vegetable cups, grab & go items, assorted beverages and Starbucks. Mardigian Library: At the newly renovated coffee shop, you can drop in to refuel yourself during day or evening study time. Meet up with friends and enjoy sandwiches, soups, snacks, specialty coffees, and other drinks. Vending: Committed to offering M-Healthy products, vending areas are conveniently located throughout the campus, featuring state-of-the-art drink and snack machines that are equipped with touchscreen monitors and provide nutritional information and credit card readers. 5 Will my financial aid cover the cost of living at The Union at Dearborn? Yes! UM-Dearborn prepares a financial aid budget for students not living at home. An amount of $7,880 is allocated for Room and Board in the Cost of Attendance (budget). This may not be the cost of living at The Union since the actual cost will depend on the type of floor plan you select. After subtracting your scholarships, grants, and accepted loans from your tuition/fees bill, any funds remaining will be refunded to you and may be used toward your room cost at The Union at Dearborn, books, food, or transportation. It is your responsibility, as a resident, to pay your rent with your financial aid refund. If you will be relying on your financial aid to cover all or part of your housing expenses at The Union at Dearborn, you may need to pay for a portion of your housing until your reimbursement check arrives. You also have the option to authorize payment of your financial aid through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS). Contact OFAS for details at umd-ask-ofa@umich.edu. We also know how important that decision is to parents as well. The Union at Dearborn provides safe, secure, and worry-free living for residents. Accessibility to Campus A Pedestrian-Activated Crosswalk The Union at Dearborn is adjacent to campus next to Evergreen Road. A pedestrian-activated crosswalk has been installed to make it safe and easy for students to take a short walk to get to class and activities. Campus Shuttle In addition, the UM-Dearborn Campus Shuttle service provides transportation between The Union at Dearborn, the main campus, and UM-Dearborn s Fairlane Center (home to the College of Business and the College of Education, Health, and Human Services), located on Hubbard Drive. For More Information Visit The Union at Dearborn s Leasing Center to see the showroom, view different floor plans, and talk to a Community Assistant about leasing an apartment. The showroom is located inside the Victors Den at The Union at Dearborn and is open Monday - Friday (9 am - 6 pm), Saturdays (10 am - 4 pm), and Sundays (12-4 pm).
