Keep all packing materials for future transport of the balance. Standard accessories: KERN VB Balance (mounted platform and terminal) Instruction manual Voltage adapter 2.2 Installation Set the balance on a stable surface Make sure the balance is level by adjusting the foot screws until the air bubble (at the left front of the body) is inside the circle. 3 Power supply 3.1 Power connection Connect the power supply (12-18 Vdc) with the connection cable to the balance. 4 4 Adjustment The adjustment weight can be used to check and adjust balance precision at any time. Adjustment weights can be acquired from KERN as an optional component. To decide which adjustment weights are required, refer to Chapter 1 Technical Data. Adjustment procedure Note! In calibrated apparatus, the adjustment switch can only be accessed by destroying the safety seal (first unscrew the terminal from the platform resp. the stand). This would void the calibration. Check that the surrounding conditions are stable, see Important instructions. A short warm-up time of about 1 minute is recommended for stabilisation. Remove the 6 screws below the display and keypad unit, as shown in the figure. Screws Safety seal for calibration Place the top of the display and keypad unit toward one side. 6 Remark: You should select adjustment weights above 3% of the maximum load. : 1, Confirm with the key CAL Confirm with the key Confirm with the key, the zero point is adjusted. Wait until CAL SP appears on the display.. Place the adjustment weight on the balance plate. CAL SP Confirm with the key TARE An internal control number that does not correspond to the weight will appear Confirm by pressing the key. The balance will exit the adjustment operation. Turn the adjustment switch OFF. Turn the switch OFF again. Replace the keypad cover and secure with 6 screws. Check that the balance is properly set by placing the 1/3 weight, then 2/3 weight and finally the total weight on the balance. Balance precision should be checked regularly when using the balance for qualityrelated applications. 22 VB-BA-defsi-413

9 6 Control functions 6.1 Turning the balance on and off 1. To turn the balance on, press the ON/OFF key The balance will perform a self-test. 2. Once the weight appears on the Display, the balance is ready for weighing. kg 8,8,8,8,8, , 6.2 Zeroing the balance Due to environmental influences, the balance may not display exactly ". even when the weighing plate is empty. Nevertheless, you can zero the balance display at any time to ensure that weighing actually starts at zero. Zeroing with some weight on the balance can only be done within a certain range, depending on type. If the balance does not allow zeroing with the weight on the plate, the weight is out-of-range. 1. If the balance does not display zero exactly even when the weighing plate is empty, press the Zeroing key and the balance will start reinitialising at zero. 2. 10 6.3 Taring The weight of the containers used for weighing can be tared by pressing a button, such that the net weight of the item being weighed is displayed in subsequent weighing operations. kg 1. Place the empty container to be tared on the weighing plate. The total weight of the container will be displayed.,28 2. Press the TARE key to start the tare operation.,28 3. After taring is finished, zero is displayed along with the NET symbol that indicates net weight. The balance is ready to be used., Note: The balance can only store one tare value. When the balance is empty, the stored tare value will be displayed with a negative sign. To clear the stored tare value, empty the weighing plate and then press the TARE key. 26 VB-BA-defsi-413

11 6.4 Manual tare kg 1. If the numeric value of the tare is known (e.g.,.28 kg), use the selection keys to enter this value.,, 2. 12 7 Important information Electronic balances are precision instruments. Avoid disturbing environmental conditions such as air current, vibrations and rapid change of ambient temperature. When necessary readjust the balance upon temperature adaptation. When appearing strong magnetic fields deviations are possible. Avoid high humidity, vapours and dust as the balance is not hermetically sealed. Do not let the balance come into direct contact with liquids, as these could enter the measuring cell. Therefore please wipe the unit with a dry or damp cloth. Do not use solvents, because varnished or plastic parts could be damaged. A short warming up time of some minutes after having switched on the balance will stabilize the measuring values. Place the object carefully on the weighing plate. Avoid any constant load on the weighing plate beyond of the use. Avoid by all means shocks and extreme impairments. Remove any spilled product immediately. When the program cycle is disturbed, switch off the balance and then turn on it again, Start again the weighing procedure. Do not use the balance in rooms where is a danger of explosion. The serial version is not explosion-proof. Check the balance regularly using external adjusting weights. 28 VB-BA-defsi-413

13 8 Minor breakdown Breakdown Possible causes No indication. Balance is not switched on. The power connection is cut off (power cable is defective or not properly inserted). Power cut.
