Installation Gide InsightIQ system reqirements To rn the Isilon InsightIQ virtal appliance, yor environment mst meet the following minimm system reqirements. Isilon clster The monitored clster mst be rnning version or later of the Isilon OneFS operating system. However, if yo want to enable the InsightIQ File System Analytics fnctionality, the monitored clster mst be rnning OneFS 6.0 or later. Depending on which version of the OneFS operating system the monitored clster is rnning, certain InsightIQ featres may not be available. For monitored clsters rnning OneFS 7.0 and later, yo mst enable HTTPS port For monitored clsters rnning an earlier version of OneFS, yo mst enable HTTPS port If yo se the File System Analytics featre, yo mst also enable the NFS service, HTTPS port 111, and HTTPS port 2049 on all monitored clsters. InsightIQ prodct license Before installing the InsightIQ virtal appliance, yo mst obtain an InsightIQ license key for each clster that yo want to monitor; for more information, contact yor EMC Isilon sales representative. After yo obtain the license keys, yo mst enable licenses on each clster that yo want to monitor. Web browser Yo can access the Isilon InsightIQ application throgh any web browser that spports sophisticated graphics. Examples of spported browsers inclde Microsoft Internet Explorer 10, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari 5, and Google Chrome. The InsightIQ web application interface is optimized for a screen that is 1,280 pixels wide. Storage space for the InsightIQ datastore InsightIQ can store monitored-clster data either locally or on an NFS-monted server. If InsightIQ is installed as a virtal appliance, InsightIQ by defalt stores the monitored-clster data locally on a virtal hard drive that is inclded with the InsightIQ virtal appliance. If yo want to se this local virtal hard drive as the InsightIQ datastore, ensre that the virtalization host contains at least 70 GB of free disk space. If InsightIQ is installed as an RPM, InsightIQ stores data on the local machine by defalt. If yo store InsightIQ data on the local machine, ensre that the machine contains at least 64 GB of free disk space. As an alternative to storing InsightIQ data locally, yo can configre InsightIQ to store monitored-clster data on an Isilon clster either the monitored clster itself or a different clster or on any NFS-monted server. If yo want to store InsightIQ monitored-clster data on an Isilon clster or other NFS-based server, yo mst provide adeqate space in which to store the data. Yo mst also verify that an NFS export rle is properly configred on the clster or NFS-based server. For information abot NFS datastore reqirements, see NFS datastore reqirements on page 12. Virtal appliance reqirements Before yo install InsghtIQ as a virtal appliance, verify that yor virtalization environment meets these reqirements. The Isilon InsightIQ virtal appliance can rn on any of the following systems: VMware ESX version 4.x VMware ESXi version 5.x 2 InsightIQ 3.0 Installation Gide

InsightIQ is compatible with all CentOS 6 and RHEL 6 software pdate patches. RPM reqirements 3
Installation Gide Software reqirements If they are not already installed, the following software packages are atomatically installed on a machine dring the InsightIQ installation process: nfs-tils openssh-clients openssl-devel atofs python readline sssd sqlite libx11 libstdc++ libxext zlib fontconfig libxrender rw-fonts Installing InsightIQ Obtain the installation image Also, ensre that the Linx machine is connected to a network that can commnicate with the monitored clster. The installation and setp procedres depend on whether yo are installing InsightIQ throgh RPM or as a virtal appliance. The InsightIQ installation package is available in three different compressed-file formats. The installation image that yo download depends on how yo are installing InsightIQ. Procedre 1. Obtain the appropriate InsightIQ installation files, available at spport.emc.com If yo are installing InsightIQ throgh Red Hat Package Manager (RPM), download and save the installation files in.rpm format. If yo are installing InsightIQ as a virtal appliance and are rnning VMware ESX, VMware ESXi, or VMware Workstation 8 or later, download the installation files in.ova format. Extract the files to a location where the VMware software can access them. Yo can deploy these files as an Open Virtalization Format (OVF) template. If yo are installing InsightIQ as a virtal appliance and are not rnning VMware ESX, VMware ESXi, or VMware Workstation 8 or later, download the installation 4 InsightIQ 3.0 Installation Gide
InsightIQ Installation Gide files in.zip format. Extract the files to a location where the VMware software can access them. Install and configre the InsightIQ virtal appliance As an alternative to installing InsightIQ throgh RPM, yo can install InsightIQ as a virtal appliance. Procedre 1. Add the InsightIQ virtal appliance to yor virtal-machine inventory. Depending on which virtalization prodct yo are rnning, yo may also need to modify yor network configration settings to accommodate the InsightIQ virtal appliance. For example, in VMware Server, yo might need to bridge the network adapters. For more information, see the applicable prodct docmentation. 2. Open the virtalization-environment console for the InsightIQ virtal appliance. 3. Create a password for the administrator accont. a. Type a password for the administrator accont and then press ENTER. b. Retype the password for the administrator accont and then press ENTER. If InsightIQ is able to acqire an IP address throgh DHCP, the address appears on the console. If InsightIQ is nable to acqire an IP address throgh DHCP, the system prompts yo to configre a static IP address. If InsightIQ cannot detect an interface, an error message appears and indicates that no interfaces are available. InsightIQ reqires that one, and only one, interface be configred and connected in the virtalization environment. Yo mst configre the virtalization environment, and then restart the InsightIQ virtal appliance. 4. Configre network settings. Options To configre DHCP networking mode Description Make a note of the IP address displayed on the screen; yo will later need to enter this address in a web browser to access the InsightIQ application. If no IP address is displayed, InsightIQ was nable to acqire an IP address throgh DHCP. Yo mst either configre yor network to spport DHCP or configre a static IP address. Install and configre the InsightIQ virtal appliance 5
Installation Gide Options Description Rnning InsightIQ in DHCP mode can offer convenience when yo are setting p InsightIQ; however, for long-term, ongoing se, it is recommended that yo rn InsightIQ in manal networking mode. The DHCP-generated IP address can expire withot warning, casing interrptions in the data collection process or preventing yo from logging in to the InsightIQ virtal appliance; in this case, each time the crrent DHCP IP address expires, yo mst retrn to yor virtalization environment to view a newly obtained DHCP IP address. To configre a static IP address a. Log in to the InsightIQ virtal appliance. b. Rn the following command: iiq_network c. Follow the prompts to configre network settings. d. Exit the prompt by typing 1 and then pressing ENTER. e. Log ot of the InsightIQ virtal appliance by typing exit and then pressing ENTER. Install InsightIQ throgh RPM The virtalization-environment console for the InsightIQ virtal appliance appears. 5. Select Set Timezone, press ENTER, and then follow the prompts to configre the time zone of the virtal appliance. As an alternative to installing InsightIQ as a virtal appliance, yo can install InsightIQ throgh RPM. Procedre 1. Log in to a Linx machine throgh a ser accont with sdo access or the root ser accont. 2. Install InsightIQ by rnning the following command: sdo ym install <path> where <path> is the fll path of the.rpm installation file. 3. Optional: Create a ser accont that yo will se to access the InsightIQ web application. Yo cannot log in to the InsightIQ web application as the root ser. If no other ser accont is configred on the machine, yo mst create another ser accont. To create a ser and configre a password for the ser, rn the following commands in the order listed: sdo seradd <sername> sdo passwd <sername> 6 InsightIQ 3.0 Installation Gide
InsightIQ Installation Gide 4. Enable access to HTTP port 80. The InsightIQ web application commnicates with web browsers throgh port 80. However, the defalt firewall settings of CentOS and RHEL prevent access throgh port 80. Yo can allow access to port 80 by completely disabling yor firewall by rnning the following commands in the order listed: sdo /etc/init.d/iptables stop sdo chkconfig iptables off To enable access to port 80 withot disabling yor firewall, see yor operating system docmentation. Upgrade InsightIQ Yo can pgrade InsightIQ instances that are rnning InsightIQ 2.5 or later. Before yo begin Ensre yo have enogh space on the InsightIQ datastore. The pgrade process will increase the amont of storage space consmed by InsightIQ data by approximately 50%. Althogh yo will be able to delete excess data after the pgrade process is complete, yo mst ensre yo have enogh free space before yo begin the pgrade process. Dring the pgrade process, yo cannot monitor clsters, and InsightIQ will not be able to collect data abot monitored clsters. Becase of this, it is recommended that yo pgrade InsightIQ at a time when clster activity is minimal. Procedre 1. Optional: Create a backp of yor InsightIQ datastore. a. Install a new instance of InsightIQ. The InsightIQ instance mst be rnning the same version of InsightIQ as the one yo are backing p. b. On the new instance of InsightIQ, import data for each clster yo want to create backps for. 2. Obtain the InsightIQ installation file from in.rpm format and download the file to the Linx or virtal machine that is crrently rnning InsightIQ. 3. On the Linx or virtal machine yo want to pgrade, rn the following command: sdo ym pgrade <path> Where <path> is the path of the.rpm file. 4. In a spported web browser, connect to the InsightIQ application at <IPAddressOrHostName> and record the amont of space crrently being occpied by InsightIQ data displayed in the Datastore sed capacity field. 5. Upgrade the InsightIQ datastore by rnning the following command: sdo pgrade_iiq_datastore 6. Follow the prompts to specify the InsightIQ datastore. The system displays the free space in the specified datastore and the total amont of space being occpied by InsightIQ data. Upgrade InsightIQ 7
Installation Gide If yo specified a new datastore location, the system will report that no space is crrently being occpied by InsightIQ data displayed. To view the amont of space crrently occpied by InsightIQ data, rn the following command: d -h <datastore_path> Specify <datasore_path> as the path of the old InsightIQ datastore. 7. It is recommended that yo ensre that the total amont of free space in the datastore is eqal to at least 50% of the total amont of space being occpied by InsightIQ data. 8. Follow the prompts to complete the pgrade process. Log in to the InsightIQ application Yo can log in to the InsightIQ web application throgh any spported web browser. Procedre 1. In a spported web browser, connect to the InsightIQ application at <IPAddressOrHostName>, where <IPAddressOrHostName> is the IP address or the host name of the InsightIQ virtal appliance. The InsightIQ application login page appears. 2. In the Username and Password fields, type a valid sername and password. If yo are logging in to an InsightIQ virtal appliance, log in throgh the administrator accont. If yo are logging in to a Linx machine, log in throgh any ser accont other than root. 3. If the end ser license agreement (EULA) appears, review the EULA, click I have read and agree to..., and then click Sbmit. Specify a datastore Yo mst specify a datastore where yo want to store the data collected by InsightIQ. The specific steps depend on whether yo want to store data on the local datastore or on an NFS-monted datastore. If yo install InsightIQ as a virtal appliance, the local datastore is a virtal hard drive that is inclded with InsightIQ. If yo install InsightIQ throgh RPM, the local datastore is the hard drive of the Linx machine. If yo want to store InsightIQ data on the local datastore, yo mst ensre that the virtalization host or Linx machine contains at least 70 GB of free disk space available. The NFS datastore can be either an Isilon clster or another NFS-monted server. If yo want to store InsightIQ data on an NFS datastore, yo mst ensre that the datastore meets certain reqirements; for more information, see NFS datastore reqirements on page 12. If yo want to store InsightIQ data on the local datastore that is inclded with InsightIQ, see Specify the local datastore on page 9. If yo want to store InsightIQ data on an NFS-monted datastore, see Specify an NFS datastore on page 9. 8 InsightIQ 3.0 Installation Gide
InsightIQ Installation Gide Specify the local datastore Yo can configre InsightIQ to store monitored-clster data on the local datastore. CAUTION If yo modify the datastore location after InsightIQ has been installed and configred, InsightIQ does not migrate any previosly collected data from the old datastore to the new datastore. Any data collected on the old datastore will not be available while InsightIQ is connected to the new datastore. Procedre 1. Click Settings > Datastore. The Configre Datastore Path page appears and displays the crrent location of the datastore. If yo are installing InsightIQ for the first time, the Configre Datastore Path page might atomatically appear. 2. Click Local Datastore. 3. Specify the path of the local datastore. Options Description For virtal appliance In the Datastore Path field, type /datastore. For RPM In the Datastore Path field, type the path of an empty directory on the Linx machine. Specify an NFS datastore 4. Click Sbmit Changes. All data sbseqently collected by InsightIQ is stored in the local datastore. Yo can configre InsightIQ to store monitored-clster data on an NFS datastore. Specify the local datastore 9
Installation Gide 2. Click NFS Monted Datastore. 3. In the Datastore NFS Server field, type the host name or IP address of the server or Isilon clster on which collected performance data will be stored. 4. In the Datastore NFS Server Path field, type the absolte path, beginning with a slash mark (/), to the directory on the server or clster where yo want the collected data to be stored. This field mst only contain ASCII characters. 5. Click Sbmit Changes. Begin monitoring the initial clster Add a new clster to monitor All data sbseqently collected by InsightIQ is stored in the specified NFS datastore. Yo mst configre InsightIQ to monitor an initial clster dring the installation process. If yo are already monitoring the clster with another instance of InsightIQ, see Import a clster to monitor on page 11. If yo are not monitoring the clster with another instance of InsightIQ, see Add a new clster to monitor on page 10. Yo can configre InsightIQ to monitor more than one Isilon clster simltaneosly. The maximm nmber of clsters that yo can simltaneosly monitor varies depending on the resorces available to the virtal machine. It is recommended that yo monitor no more than eight clsters or 150 nodes at one time. If yo want to monitor more clsters or nodes than this, it is recommended that yo deploy an additional instance of InsightIQ. Before yo can view data abot a clster throgh InsightIQ, yo mst configre InsightIQ to monitor that clster. Before yo begin Verify that a valid InsightIQ license is enabled on the monitored clster; for more information, contact yor Isilon representative. Verify that the local InsightIQ ser is enabled and configred with a password on the monitored clster. Procedre 1. Click Settings > Monitored Clsters, and then, on the Monitored Clsters page, click Add Clster. The Add Clster dialog box appears. If yo are installing InsightIQ for the first time, the Add Clster dialog box might already be displayed. 2. In the Add Clster dialog box, click I want to monitor a new clster. 3. In the Isilon clster field, type the host name or IP address of any node in the clster that yo want to monitor. Alternatively, yo can type the name of an Isilon SmartConnect zone. 10 InsightIQ 3.0 Installation Gide
InsightIQ Installation Gide In general, it is recommended that yo specify a monitored clster by a SmartConnect zone name. However, if the monitored clster is heavily loaded and yo rely on InsightIQ file-heat data, it is recommended that yo specify the monitored clster by the IP address or host name of a specific node in the clster; avoid specifying an IP address that can be transferred from node to node. If yo choose to identify the monitored clster by a SmartConnect zone, specify a SmartConnect zone that incldes a CPU load-balancing policy. By balancing connections to nodes with lower CPU sage, the monitored clster can respond to InsightIQ data-collection qeries more qickly and efficiently. 4. In the Username field, type the ser name of the monitored clster's InsightIQ ser: If the clster is rnning OneFS 6.0 or later, type insightiq If the clster is rnning a version of OneFS earlier than 6.0, type api 5. In the Password field, type the password of the monitored clster's InsightIQ ser. 6. Click OK. Import a clster to monitor InsightIQ begins monitoring the clster. If yo import a monitored clster from another instance of InsightIQ, InsightIQ immediately begins monitoring that clster. In addition, InsightIQ initiates a one-time process that imports data from the other instance of InsightIQ. Depending on the amont of data being imported, this import process can take a long time to complete. InsightIQ merges the imported data with the existing monitored-clster data and stores it in the datastore associated with the new instance of InsightIQ. Dring the import process, in order to ensre data integrity, the remote instance of InsightIQ that is being imported from might sspend service, sht down, and then restart. Yo can import data only from instances of InsightIQ rnning InsightIQ 3.0 Procedre 1. Ensre that the InsightIQ port configrations match. a. Open an SSH connection to both InsightIQ appliances and log in. b. View the contents of the /etc/isilon/insightiq.ini files on both InsightIQ instances. The redirect_to_port and port vales mst match for both InsightIQ instances. If the ports do not match, modify the vale on the InsightIQ instance yo are importing to. c. If yo modified the /etc/isilon/insightiq.ini file, save the file and then restart InsightIQ by rnning the following command: iiq_restart 2. Click Settings > Monitored Clsters, and then, on the Monitored Clsters page, click Add Clster. 3. Click Add Clster. 4. Click I want to monitor a clster already being monitored. 5. In the InsightIQ VM host field, type the host name or IP address of InsightIQ. 6. In the Username and Password fields, type a valid sername and password. Import a clster to monitor 11
Installation Gide If yo are importing from an InsightIQ virtal appliance, specify the sername and password of the administrator accont. If yo are importing from a Linx machine, specify the sername and password of any ser accont other than root. 7. Click OK. 8. In the Password field for the clster that yo want to import, type the password of the clster's InsightIQ ser and then press ENTER. 9. Select the check box for the clster that yo want to monitor, and then click Import. InsightIQ datastore size Yo mst provide an adeqate amont of space in the InsightIQ datastore to contain the data that InsightIQ creates. The amont of data that InsightIQ creates is dependent on the nmber of nodes being monitored and the amont of time yo want InsightIQ to retain data for. Yo mst reserve at least 1.5 GB of space per node that yo monitor. If yo do not reserve the minimm amont of space, the InsightIQ datastore might become fll before InsightIQ begins deleting older data to make room for newer data. Reserving 1.5 GB of space per node will allow InsightIQ to retain approximately two weeks worth of data. If yo want to retain more than two weeks worth of data, it is recommended that yo increase the size of the InsightIQ datastore and reserve 3 GB per node per month that yo want to retain data for. Use the following eqations to determine the size of yor datastore: <minimm_datastore_size> = <nmber_of_nodes>*1.5 <larger_datastore_size> = <nmber_of_nodes>*<nmber_of_months>*3 For example, if yo monitor 8 nodes, yo mst reserve a minimm of 12 GB of space in yor datastore. However, if yo want to retain three months worth of data, yo mst reserve 72 GB. NFS datastore reqirements As an alternative to storing InsightIQ data on the local datastore, yo can store InsightIQ data on the monitored clster itself, on a different Isilon clster, or on any NFS-monted server. If yo want to store InsightIQ data on an Isilon clster or other NFS-based server, yo mst provide adeqate space in which to store the data that InsightIQ collects. If yo want to store InsightIQ data on an Isilon clster or other NFS-based server, yo mst ensre that the clster or server incldes a properly configred NFS export rle that exports the datastore path and grants write access to the "root" ser for the specified InsightIQ IP address; this enables InsightIQ to mont the clster or server and create the necessary directories and files on the clster or server. InsightIQ might cache permissions for failed attempts to mont the NFS export. If InsightIQ contines to report that it does not have sfficient rights to create the path on the NFS host, reboot InsightIQ to clear the previos mont attempts and then try again. 12 InsightIQ 3.0 Installation Gide
InsightIQ Installation Gide Datastore reqirements for an Isilon clster If yo want to se an Isilon clster to store data collected by InsightIQ, the Isilon clster mst meet specific reqirements. This information is applicable only if yo are storing data on an Isilon clster. If yo store InsightIQ data on an Isilon clster other than the monitored clster itself, yo do not need to license InsightIQ on that clster. In addition, if yo store the InsightIQ data on a different Isilon clster, that clster can be rnning any version of the Isilon OneFS operating system that is spported by InsightIQ. If yo store the InsightIQ data on the clster that InsightIQ is monitoring, the clster will appear as a client of itself in InsightIQ. Yo mst ensre that the clster incldes a properly configred NFS export rle that exports the datastore path and grants write access to the "root" ser. Isilon OneFS ships with a defalt NFS export rle for the /ifs directory that yo can se for InsightIQ. If that defalt NFS export has been modified or deleted, yo mst create a new NFS export rle that allows write access for InsightIQ. Uninstall InsightIQ Yo can ninstall InsightIQ. However, ninstalling InsightIQ does not remove all InsightIQ files from the Linx or virtal machine. Uninstalling InsightIQ does not delete InsightIQ data, ser settings, live performance reports, generated live performance reports, performance report schedles, or file system reports. If yo do not delete this data, the data will be available if yo reinstall InsightIQ on the same machine. Procedre 1. On the Linx or virtal machine, ninstall InsightIQ by rnning the following command: sdo ym erase isilon-insightiq 2. Optional: To delete all InsightIQ ser settings, live performance reports, generated live performance reports, performance report schedles, and file system reports, delete the /var/cache/insightiq/ folder from yor Linx or virtal machine. 3. Delete the InsightIQ datastore from yor Linx machine, virtal machine, or NFS datastore. The path of the local datastore is /datastore on an InsightIQ virtal appliance. Reinstall InstightIQ Yo can reinstall InsightIQ after yo ninstall InsightIQ. If yo did not manally delete InsightIQ settings and the InsightIQ datastore, the reinstallation of InsightIQ will retain all settings and previosly collected data. Procedre 1. Obtain the Red Hat Package Manager (RPM) installation file of the InsightIQ version that yo ninstalled. The installation file is available at 2. On the Linx or virtal machine, reinstall InsightIQ by rnning the following command: sdo ym install <path> Datastore reqirements for an Isilon clster 13
