2 PART II: READING COMPREHENSION (30 MARKS) Read the following letter to a magazine and answer the comprehensive questions. Dear Margaret, My name is Jonathan and I come from Athens. I am 25 years old and I love reading your column in Save the Earth Now, I am a big fan. I would also like to share my personal experience with you about my summer holiday this year. In August my family and I travelled to China. We flew for eight hours on a plane but took us more than eleven hours on total to reach the hotel. In China we visited many different places and ate a lot of fresh fish and rice in all kinds of restaurants. Our best trip was to the Beijing Zoo where I saw lots of rare and beautiful animals. My favourite was the giant panda. I learned that this kind of animal grows to be about 1.8 meters tall and it weighs about 140 kilos. When I was at the zoo I watched the zookeeper feed the pandas- he gave them bamboo plants and told us that they eat about 39 kilos of bamboo every day! The giant panda can have a baby once a year. On the day we were at the zoo the giant panda had a new baby! It was so exciting. The baby panda had white and black fur, a big round head and small black ears. It stayed all the time near his mum and all the tourists were so curious to see it that the zoo was full of people all the time. Next year I am going to Sweden! I really can t wait!
