1 Welcome To Pre-Kindergarten Dear Pre-Kindergarten Parents, Welcome to the pre-k program at Pillars Preparatory Academy. In order for this school year to be a great success, I thought it might be helpful for you to have the following information regarding: 1. Schedule: 8:00 Morning Centers (group of 4-6 individual activities like puzzles- tangram-beads-sorting games). 8:30 Morning Exercise and Circle Time Centers (includes: calendar, weather, sight words, Quick Movement or Stretch Song, Main Lesson) 9:00 Snack time. 9:45 Arabic and Quran 10:15 Small Group Activates. (Class is divided into 3 tables each table will do a group activity with the help of the teacher) 10:30 Instructional Learning (Implanting the lesson of the day through an activity sheet or hands on) 11:00 Gym (twice a week) 11:30 Lunch 12:00 Play Time. 12:30 Nap Time. 1:00 Afternoon Activity (hands on activity or science experiment) 2:00 Story Time 2:30 Pack up and dismissal -1-

2 2. Snack Time: Snack time is at 9:00 am daily right after circle time PLEASE make sure to send a healthy options like fruits, yogurt, or veggies. Juice will not be allowed during snack time; however the child can have juice during lunchtime. Also, please remember that we are a nut free facility so avoid sending items like nuts, peanut butter or nutella. 3. You will need to send a note/ and call the school for the following: 4. Permission to release your child to anyone other than mom or dad. 5. Changes in address or phone numbers 6. Any changes or special circumstances in your child s life that may affect their behavior in school.. 4. Please do not allow your child to bring gum, candy, toys, toy weapons or money to school. (Toys are ONLY expectable as part of Show & Tell.) 5. Health Concerns- If your child has a severe cold or symptoms of illness, please keep your child at home. This will help prevent sickness from spreading. If your child has strep throat or a communicable disease such as chicken pox, ringworm, pink eye, etc., you need to contact the teacher or director. For vomiting and loose bowels, we ask that children not return until they have not had either symptom for a 24-hour period. Also, children are not allowed to take cough drops in the classroom. 6. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held as per the calendar sent by the school at the beginning of the year, also a reminder will be sent the parents prior the conference. The purpose of the conference is to review your child s progress throughout the year. If you have any concerns about your child s progress, the instructions or procedures, please speak with me as soon as possible. Throughout the year I will communicate with you any concerns about your child through s or phone calls. -2-

3 7. Your child will have a Daily Take Home Folder that is to be taken home each day. This folder is to be checked for any handouts, projects, notes, etc. Each day the folder is taken home and emptied (if needed). Please make sure to remove all papers each day since this will show your child that you care. 8. Remember to make sure your child gets adequate rest. It is important to have a set bedtime at a reasonable hour (No later than 9pm) to ensure that your child gets the proper amount of sleep. Also, please be sure to always make sure your child is aware of any changes in his/her routine and knows who will be picking them up each day. Young children become anxious when their routines are changed unexpectedly so consistency is important. 9. Frequent Communication Tools: The Monthly Calendar acts like a summery for the whole month including curriculum, show and tell any thing required from the students, etc. It will be ed to the parents at the beginning of each month. I suggest that you hang it on the fridge so that it could be visible all the time. The Weekly Newsletter will summarize with more details what we learned that specific week. Class Dojo: This is to show that each student has accomplished their daily task, also it will be used to post videos and pictures for various activities held inside or outside the classroom. Parent Child Activity Calendar. This Calendar will be sent on monthly basis starting October 1 st. It will have a small daily activity that you can do with your child, color the box with the activity when done and to be returned at the end of the month. I cannot possibly express the importance of working with your child at home on daily basis weather by a small activity, a worksheet or reading together. This helps reinforce the skills and concepts they are learning at school. Also, this will help prepare your child for kindergarten. Please do your best to participate in this process, you will see benefits. I know first hand how busy it can be for working parents. If you ever need any suggestions of ways to work with your child that are easy for a busy parent, please do not hesitate to ask me. -3-

4 10. Show-N-Tell: Every Friday is show-n-tell day. Every year I have difficulty getting parents to participate in show-n-tell. Please send in your child s show-ntell! I cannot express the importance of this to your child. Children who do not have show-n-tell are EXTREMELY disappointed when they watch all of their friends show their fun toys, and they have nothing. This is considered part of the Thursday night homework assignment. Our show-n-tell must always begin with the letter of the week unless stated otherwise on the calendar. For example: Letter of the week is Aa so show-n-tell MUST begin with the letter Aa such as apple or ape. Thank you, Ms.Yousra Elahmadawy -4-

Mathematics Sorting and classifying Creating and identifying shapes, patterns and sequences Exploring materials with ease Identifying numbers Manipulating numbers 1-20 or beyond Understanding number concepts Developing spatial/geometric sense Using problem solving strategies Verbalizing thinking strategies Simple addition and subtraction through manipulative and cognitive activities. Experiencing Science Observing Measuring and Experimenting Investigating and Hypothesizing Sorting and Recording Physical Education: Body and Space Awareness Cooperative learning Integration Activities Pathways and Directions. Rhythms/Dancing Balance -5-

6 Social and Emotional Development: Developing self-reliance. Practicing self-discipline. Following rules and directions. Responding well to guidance. Working and playing well with others. Resolving conflict appropriately. Language Arts (Arabic): Working from right to left. Identifying letters and corresponding sounds. Discriminating between the sounds of the Arabic language. Forming letters. Acquiring new vocabulary. Quran /Islamic Studies: Developing of the Personal Self as a Muslim. Deepening awareness of Allah SWT as the Creator of everything.
