1 Orange Community Education & Recreation Department Summer Job Vacancies Youth Sports Summer Camp Specialists Orange Community Education and Recreation Youth Sports department is seeking experienced staff implement and develop curriculum for summer camps in June and July 2016, for grades Kindergarten through 5 th (fifth) grade. Available positions include: Camp Leader - The Orange Youth Sports Summer Camp Leader is responsible for the implementation, supervision and evaluation of the Summer Sports Camp. Provide daily oversight of staff, monitoring participant attendance, and regular correspondence with parents or guardians to develop relationships. Head Counselor (2) - The Head Counselor is responsible for assisting the Camp Leader in day-to-day planning, implementation, supervision and evaluation of the camp and their assigned camp group (Grades k-2, or 3-5). Camp Counselor (3) - The Camp Counselor is responsible for the supervision, program implementation, and evaluation of their assigned camp group. (Grades k-2, or 3-5) Extensive knowledge of rules, fundamentals, and skill development drills in each sport is required for all positions. An enthusiasm for youth sports is required, along with a strong customer service ability and desire to work. Job Descriptions for these openings are available online at under the employment section. 2 ORANGE COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND RECREATION JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Orange Youth Sports Summer Camp - Camp Leader Schedule: Full Time for six weeks in summer to include camp day 8:30am-3:30pm plus field trip hours. Includes 2-3 days planning prior to the camp. Reports To: OCE&R Youth Sports Coordinator REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS: College graduate or student pursuing degree in related field with strong sports background and camp experience. Experience in staff oversight, and youth program implementation. Strong skills in leadership, supervision and youth sports program development. Knowledge of different sports, gym games and active camp games. Ability to work as part of a dedicated and enthusiastic team of community education and recreation professionals in a school/camp setting. Current CPR Certificate (opportunity for certification available prior to the start of camp). Must meet general qualifications as established by the Orange City Schools and Orange Community Education & Recreation department.
3 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Orange Youth Sports Summer Camp Leader is responsible for the planning, and implementation, of the summer sports camp cirriculum. Daily oversight of staff, and camp participant attendance will be asked. Regular correspondence with parents or guardians of participants to develop relationships. Collaborate with Youth Sports Staff to reach camp goals. Plan, instruct and implement the complete sports camp program for grades k-5 Generate and cultivate a fun atmosphere for both youth participants and staff. Prepare curriculum for the camp, which corresponds with the weekly camp s theme that includes skill and fundamental development activities. Each week must include competition based tournaments and games for teams and individuals Make recommendations to the Youth Sports staff for appropriate sports equipment for the camp. Work with Counselors and lead counselors by providing extra sports & fitness activities and games they would be able to teach to their group of campers. Responsible for setting up, maintaining, and packing up of the gym and all equipment, daily. Prior to, and at the end of camp provide an inventory of remaining equipment/supplies with recommendations for equipment/supplies to be purchased for next year s program. With the designated arts & crafts, plan, coordinate and implement camp awards, for weekly and daily contests and games. Lead staff, and participants on field trips as assigned. Be the lead person on designated field trips (bring back paper work, handle any logistical issues, check head counts, etc.) Provide feedback to the Youth Sports Coordinator from campers, parents and staff and include suggestions for improvement. Work with the Youth Sports Coordinator for facility usage and safety relative to facility. Involve the camp staff and campers in the process of maintaining facilities and safety. Perform other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned by OCE&R department administrators.
