THE END: Comparative Views Between Christianity and Islam

Quick History of Islam Established by the prophet Muhammad in 610 AD. Claimed to receive revelations until his death in 632 AD. Writings which explain the Quran are called the Hadith. Both the Quran and Hadith were written and collected by Muhammad s companions in the years following his death. Muslims believe that the Quran is the only revelation by God that has remained uncorrupted.

Quick History of Islam Political Islam and Religious Islam are different. Those who state that Islam is a religion of peace represent the second. Those who are following Political Islam use a trilogy of sources as their authority: Quran, Hadith and the Sira (or biography of Muhammad). The Sira shows Muhammad as the perfect model to be followed in carrying out the truth of the Quran as revealed by Allah. The example of his life is also referred to as the Sunnah.

Five Pillars of Islam The Testimony of Faith: There is no true god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger Prayer: 5 times per day toward Mecca Giving to the Needy: Zakat Fasting: During the month of Ramadan Pilgrimage to Makkah (Hajj) Annual but is to be done by every pilgrim who is able at least once in their lifetime.

The Two Groups There are two distinct Islamic groups: Sunni and Shia Both groups hold to the Five Pillars of Islam Sunnis make up 85% of all Muslims today The difference between them has to do with who is the rightful successor to Muhammad as leader. Sunnis believe the leader should be chosen by the group. Shia believed Muhammad s son-inlaw was the rightful heir to leadership, and therefore all those in his family who followed. Iran is majority Shiite and virtually controls five capitals in the Middle East. (Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Syria)

Islamic Eschatology Establishment of a holy caliphate under the leadership of the MAHDI (or 12 th Imam). Both branches believe in the coming of the MAHDI but the Shiites believe he was born in 869 AD as the 12 th Imam, is now hidden, and will reappear at the proper time to rid the earth of unbelievers at the direction of Allah. Jesus or Isa, plays a role in association with the Mahdi. There is an antichrist figure called dajjal will fight against the Mahdi and will be destroyed by Isa.

Comparison of The End - MAHDI 1. Will become the universal leader of all Muslims 2. Will rule the non-muslim world as well 3. Will conquer Israel 4. Will have his headquarters in Jerusalem 5. Will make a seven year treaty with Israel 6. Will rule 7-9 years 7. Will discover new biblical texts to dispute Judaism an Christianity

Comparison of The End - MAHDI 8. Will cause only Islam to be practiced 9. Will distribute wealth to the populace 10. Will be a powerful and unprecedented military and political leader 11. Will be given supernatural power over nature 12. Will come after a period of great turmoil 13. Will establish a new world order and wage war against Jews and Christians.

Comparison of The End ISA (Jesus) 1. Will be a subordinate of the Mahdi and point all attention to him. 2. A devote Muslim who institutes Sharia law across the world. 3. Acts as a Muslim evangelist and abolishes Christianity 4. Kills the Dajjal as well as his Jewish followers 5. Persecutes Jews and Christians and forces them to convert or die. 6. Remains on earth about four years, marries and then dies.

Comparison of The End Dajjal 1. He will be blind in the right eye, bulging like a grape and the other eye will be flat. 2. He will be hairy and will have letters on his forehead spelling the Arabic word for disbelief. 3. He will appear between Syria and Iraq, become public in Judea where he will do miracles and gather a following among the Jews. 4. He will be on earth 40 days, end up going to Damascus where he will be confronted by the Mahdi and killed by Isa. 5. The trees and rocks will give up any remaining followers.

Direct Comparison ISLAM CHRISTIANITY MAHDI ISA DAJJAL JESUS CHRIST ANTICHRIST FALSE PROPHET
