19 NEIGHBOURHOOD HISTORY Neighbourhood History The Neighbourhood was named after John Thomas Moore, it is delineated by two ravines, Mount Pleasant cemetery and a railway line. Moore was instrumental in building the Belt Line Railway and the show-piece station at Moore Park. His plan was to develop the neighbourhood in the late 1800s for wealthy customers attracted by the railway but a Depression occurred at that time and the actual building of homes did not occur until the early 1900 and was completed by the 1930s. Today a drive around this neighbourhood will immediately show you its character. There are huge mature trees throughout and the original residences were so well constructed that in most cases the original exteriors have been retained and the interiors updated. Elementary schooling is close by for the little ones so escorting them to school is completely feasible on the low traffic roads to Whitney School. The tennis courts located in the middle of the neighbourhood indicates the kind of life style offered here.
