INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS AND TRAVEL MONEY FOR UK CUSTOMERS.
IF YOU NEED TO SEND MONEY OVERSEAS OR TAKE CASH ON HOLIDAY, WE CAN HELP. WE MAKE MOVING YOUR MONEY EASY, HOME OR AWAY.
CONTENTS. This brochure explains: Our International Payment Service, for sending / receiving money to and from overseas. Our Travel Money Service. Our International Payment Service 2 Exchange rates 5 Timescales 6 Travel money 7 International payments 8 Important information 10 Our responsibility 12 å 1
OUR INTERNATIONAL PAYMENT SERVICE. We provide a simple, secure method of transferring funds outside the UK in a wide range of currencies, through our different channels. Online / Mobile If you re registered for Online Banking, log on and choose the account you want to make a payment from. It s quick and convenient as you can give us a payment instruction at any time. International payments up to 100,000 can be made online. In branch You can arrange to make an International Payment for any amount at any of our branches. Telephone Call us on from Monday 8am Saturday 4pm to arrange an International Payment. You can make international payments up to 5,000 via telephone banking. Cut-off times Please note, we must receive your payment instruction before the cut-off time on a working day so that we can start processing it the same day. The cut-off time for international payments sent in euros via a branch or Telephone Banking will be no earlier than 2pm and no later than 3pm. The cut off time for all other currencies is 3pm. If you make your International Payment online the cut-off time for all currencies is 3pm. Otherwise we ll process your payment the next working day, but the exchange rate you were told at the time you gave your instruction will still apply. 2
How much does it cost to transfer money outside the UK? We have just one fee for sending money outside the UK through online banking, branch or over the phone. International payment fee 9.50* This fee is the same for every currency and for any amount of money. Other fees Agent fees We have to send an international payment through the banking system in the non-uk country and we may need to appoint an agent in that country to do it for us. If so, then the agent may apply charges for processing the transaction. Beneficiary bank fees the beneficiary bank may apply a charge for receiving the international payment. We will not be able to confirm in advance if these will be applied and, if so, how much will be charged. * We will not charge this fee for sterling payments paid out of Basic Accounts to a destination within the EU. 3
Who pays these fees? You will always pay our 9.50* fee for sending an international payment. Other fees International payments in euro or another EEA** currency to a bank account in the EEA, Switzerland or Monaco. a) You will pay any agent charges (we will look to absorb these on your behalf where possible). WHAT TO DO NEXT If you d like to send money outside the UK you can: Y Visit halifax.co.uk Come in and see us. b) The recipient will pay their bank s charges. Any other international payments made via Online Banking a) The recipient will pay both their bank s charges and any charges applied by the agent bank. These will most likely be taken on route from the amount you send. For any other international payments made through one of our branches or Telephone Banking you may opt to: a) Share charges where the recipient will pay both their bank s charges and any charges applied by the agent bank, or b) Pay all charges where you will pay any charges applied by both the recipient s bank and any agent banks involved in the process. * We will not charge this fee for sterling payments paid out of Basic Accounts to a destination within the EU. 4
EXCHANGE RATES. If you send non-sterling currency we will tell you our exchange rate at the time you give us your instruction. This means you ll know exactly how much money is being sent and exactly the amount that is leaving your account. If, due to cut-off times, we can t process your payment until the next working day the same exchange rate you were told will apply. If you send sterling, you may not know what exchange rate is going to be used by the receiving bank when the money arrives or exactly how much money the recipient will get. To get an indication of our current exchange rates for international payments go online and use our international payments calculator, visit us in branch or call **EEA - European Economic Area, which consists of the countries in the European Union plus Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. What you need to make an international payment The requirements for international payments differ from country to country, but it is recommended that before making the payment you make sure you have the following information to hand: Recipient s full name and address. Recipient bank s name and address. The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) of the recipient s account (or their usual bank account number if they do not have an IBAN). The Business Identifier Code (BIC) of the recipient s account. We may ask you for other information such as the reason for the payment; this is because of the varying requirements across different countries, so it is recommended that you always provide us with details where they are requested. 5
TIMESCALES. We cannot control exactly how long it will take for your payment to reach the beneficiary as this will depend on the banking practice of that country. However below are the maximum timescales that a payment will generally take to reach the beneficiary s bank provided you ve given us the instruction on a working day before the cut-off time. You can ask for us for more information on how long a payment should take to reach a particular country., Currency and destination Payments in euro to another EEA country, Monaco or Switzerland. Any other currency to EU and EEA countries, North America, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Middle East and the Far East. Any currency to any other countries. Delivery times Next working day. 4 working days. Should take no longer than 14 working days. y 6
TRAVEL MONEY. To go alongside your debit card, you might like to take foreign currency or American Express Travellers Cheques with you when you travel outside the UK. Before you go away Order your foreign currency or American Express Travellers Cheques by 3pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) and we ll deliver them free of charge to either a branch of your choice for you to collect after 1pm the next working day, or to your home address* by 1pm the next working day. For further details on our travel money service including any home delivery timescales, please visit halifax.co.uk. Different delivery timescales may apply to Scotland and Northern Ireland. We may not be able to guarantee next working day delivery to certain remote areas within the United Kingdom, or to branches which are not open standard hours every weekday. Please check when placing your order. * addresses in UK only. When you get back Our branches will also buy back any foreign notes or American Express Travellers Cheques you have left over. The price at which we buy back your currency may differ from the price at which we sold it to you. There are minimum denominations we can accept in certain currencies. Details of these are available on request. We may not be able to re-purchase currency if a country becomes embargoed or we no longer deal with that currency. How to order Online banking if you ve registered, sign into halifax.co.uk. It s the simple way to order and pay direct from your account. Phone (lines open Monday to Friday 8am 10pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am 8pm). Pop in to your local branch. 7
Protect yourself when travelling Remember, when you travel outside the UK that different places take different types of payment. So it s a good idea to take some currency, and your debit or credit card. For security you should always carry them separately. Let us know when you re off If you're planning to use your debit card while outside the UK, let us know before you travel by calling us on or alternatively you can also inform us online. Lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When you use your debit card to withdraw cash or pay for goods and services in a currency other than that of sterling, the exchange rate we use will be the Visa Payment Scheme Exchange Rate. We ll charge a non-sterling transaction fee of 2.75% of the amount of the transaction and a non-sterling purchase fee of 1.50 for each payment or withdrawal. 8
IMPORTANT INFORMATION. A few things you should know if you re thinking of using our travel money services. General If you send money outside the UK from your account in non-sterling currency we ll change the amount of the payment into that foreign currency on the date that we process your request. The exchange rate that will apply is our standard exchange rate for the payment (this may depend on the size of the payment). We may also make a charge for this service as set out on page 4 of this leaflet. If you receive an international payment from outside the UK into your account we ll change the amount of the payment into pounds sterling on the date that we process your payment. The exchange rate that will apply is our standard exchange rate for the payment (this may depend on the size of the payment). We may also make a charge for this service as set out in page 5 of this leaflet. You can find out more about the indicative exchange rates for sending and receiving international payments by calling

You can buy your foreign currency and American Express Travellers cheques - through branch, telephony and online. Different timescales may apply to Scotland and Northern Ireland. We may not be able to guarantee deliveries or collections to certain remote areas within the United Kingdom. Different timescales will apply for orders placed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays immediately before a bank holiday. Failure to collect/cancelled orders If you fail to collect your travel money order within 10 days then your order will be cancelled and you'll receive a refund based on the buyback exchange rate of that day.
