3 Inspections During an inspection, activities and conditions in the workplace are carefully examined to measure compliance with company rules, policies, procedures and legislation. Situations that have the potential to cause injury or damage (sometimes called unsafe acts and unsafe conditions) are identified and corrective action is initiated. The basic procedure for conducting a planned inspection is: 1. Identify the inspector or inspections team. 2. Locate and review reports of previous inspections. 3. Ensure you have all the necessary equipment and PPE to do the inspection. 4. Proceed with the inspection tour. 5. During the tour, get off the beaten path. 6. Look over, under, around, behind, inside, etc. 7. Take the time to observe the activities of all personnel. 8. Take immediate corrective action where there is imminent danger. 9. Record all unsafe acts and conditions. 10. On completion of the tour, rank the unsafe act/conditions on a worst case first basis. 11. Identify corrective action required for each unsafe act/condition. 12. Assign a person responsible for each corrective action and a date for completion. 13. Distribute copies of the inspection report to all employees at safety meetings. 14. Maintain for management review and considerations. Page 3

6 Inspection Policy Purpose The purpose of this policy is to control losses of human and material resources by identifying and correcting unsafe acts and conditions. Policy It is the policy of this company to maintain a program of safety inspections at facilities and all job-sites. The objective of the inspection process is to ensure compliance with company rules, policies, procedures, legislation and this program. Responsibilities The manager is responsible for the overall operation of the program. Supervisors are responsible for conducting formal inspections on job-sites that they control and of the facilities on a (weekly, by-weekly, monthly) basis. Supervisors are also responsible for involving employees in the inspection process. Supervisors are responsible for conducting ongoing informal inspections of areas where their crews are working. Employees are responsible for participating in and contributing to the inspection program. Signed: Date: Page 6

7 Inspection Policy $ It is the policy of this company to maintain a program of safety inspections. The objective of this program is to control hazards in the workplace and to ensure compliance with company rules, policies, procedures, legislation and this program. $ Company facilities and job-sites shall be included in the inspection program. $ Informal inspections shall be conducted by supervisors on an ongoing basis in their areas of responsibility. $ Formal inspections shall be conducted by the manager or designate at each facility or jobsite on a (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) basis.
