This venue is situated in Blackburn. The venue is not on a road with a steep gradient. The nearest mainline Railway Station is Blackburn. There is a bus stop within 150m (164yds) of the venue.

2 Parking This venue does have its own car park. Parking is not available for students unless you are the holder of a blue badge. The car park type is open air/surface. There are 7 designated parking bay(s) within the car park which are clearly sign posted. Four accessible bays are to the front of the building and three are to the side of the building and can be accessed via University Close. The dimensions of the designated parking bay(s) are 5m x 6.1m (16ft 4in x 20ft). The route from the car park to the entrance is accessible to a manual wheelchair user with assistance. Assistance may be required because there is/are slopes/ramps. The car park surface is tarmac. The patron does not have to cross a road. The car park does not have a height restriction barrier. There is not a designated drop off point, however there is point close to the external doors at the top end of University Close where vehicles may stop to drop off- please note at this point there are yellow lines and parking is not permitted. No Level Access (Main Entrance)

4 This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building. There is not level access to the service. The entrance is accessed via a gradual slope. The doors are double width. The main doors open automatically, however whilst opening wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair user they do not open to their full extent. There is a second set of doors. The doors open by swiping your student ID card. The card reader is within the acceptable height for wheelchair users. The door opening is 100cm (3ft 3in) wide. Please note this second set of doors open towards you. Reception The reception desk is 3m (9ft 10in) from the main entrance. There is level access to reception from the entrance. The reception desk is medium height.

5 The desk has a lowered section. Lighting levels are medium. There is a hearing assistance system. The hearing system is a fixed loop. Staff are trained to use the hearing system. Inside Access There is level access to the service. This venue does not play background music. The lighting levels are varied. Motorised scooters are allowed in public parts of the venue Lifts There are two lifts for public use.

6 The lifts are located at the rear of the atrium. The lifts are standard lifts. The floors which are accessible by this lift are G and to the second floor of the library. The lift is 10m (11yd) from the main entrance. Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift. The dimensions of the lift are 1.02m x 1.55m (3ft 4in x 5ft 1in). The clear door width is 90cm. There is a separate entry and exit doors in the left hand lift to allow access tothe second floor of the library. There is a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift in the right hand lift only. The lift does have a visual floor indicator. The lift does have an audible announcer. The lift has a hearing loop The controls for the lift are within reach for a wheelchair user. The lighting level in the lift is bright. The lift does have Braille markings. The lift does have tactile markings.

7 Other Floors The floors which are accessible by stairs are G There are 15+ steps between floors. The lighting level is medium. The steps are clearly marked. The steps are medium height. The steps do have handrails. The steps have a handrail on both sides. There is a landing. The University Centre has a stair climber in case of dual lift failure. The stair climber may be utilised to ensure access up to floors above the ground floor and to egress to the ground floor. Adapted Toilet There are adapted toilets within this venue designated for public use.

8 There is one accessible toilet on each floor ( floors 1-4 the toilet is located by the water cooler). The ground floor toilet is located on the main corridor half way between the library and Curve Restaurant doors. Toilets are accessed through the use of a Radar key. Keys are available from reception or from Inclusive Studies and Disability Services. There is clear demarcation between facilities and walls. Each toilet has a pull cord alarm. All facilities are at the appropriate height for wheelchair users. Each toilet has an extra capacity sanitation bin for the disposal of pads. Standard Toilet Standard toilets are available. The female and male toilets are located towards the rear of the building on each floor. The toilets are located part way down the corridor and on floors 1-4 are located by the water cooler. Inside the venue, there is level access to the female and male toilet. Lighting levels are bright.

9 Changing Places The ground floor toilet makes provision for a changing table and electric hoist. There is a further changing place on campus should the facilities be out of order at any point. Aprons, gloves are not provided. Paper roll is provided for the changing table. Additional Information Staff do receive disability awareness training. Documents can be requested in Braille. Documents are available in electronic format to enable you to adjust the font style and size to your personal preference. Registered assistance dogs are welcomed. A member of staff trained in BSL skills is not generally on duty. An interpreter can be arranged for pre scheduled appointments. Library- personalised inductions are available. Assistive software is available on all machines ( mind view and Read and write Gold). A cctv scanner is available on the second floor of the library which can be accessed via the lift. There is an ergonomic chair and rise and fall table available on each floor Lockers

10 There are lockers available specifically for disabled students who may wish to store personal care items or for whom carrying of heavy items is difficult.
