1 Construction Scotland Industry Survey Analysis Report June 2012 Compiled by
2 Background Employing over 170,000 people, in more than 31,000 businesses across Scotland, the construction industry is a major contributor to the country s economy. The health of the sector directly links to the wellbeing of Scotland and is responsible for shaping our country s built environment. The economic conditions of the last few years have brought increased pressure on the sector which has led to a decline in output and revenue, reduced employment and business closures. At the same time, many businesses are capitalising on changes in legislation and customer demands, and responding to new opportunities. Industry Survey 2012 The findings from the ConstructionScotland Industry Survey 2012 will help shape the support provided to businesses and the construction sector as a whole. The Survey asked respondents for views on the construction industry across the following areas: Opportunities and challenges Innovation Exporting Skills & training The Low-Carbon Economy & Sustainability Confidence & Growth
