Her main role is to lead research on e2learning, and to build p roductive collaborative p rojects between the Lab, educators, the digital media industry and policy2makers. Her work focuses on theory2based design of learning and teaching methods and resources, learners concep tions and m is2 concep tions and app roaches to learning, flexible learning activity design tools for teachers, and cost2benefit model2 ing for the introduction of e2learning. Professor Laurillard p reviously held a three2year term as Head of the e2learn2 ing Strategy Unit at the UK Governm ent s Departm ent for Education and Skills. term s of office as Pro2V ice2chancellor at the Open University. From 1995 to 2002, she held two She has been a member of the V isiting Comm ittee on IT at Harvard University, and a m ember of the Dearing Comm ittee on H igher Education for the UK Government. This work has been recognized through her honorary degrees from the University of Abertay, the Open University of the Netherlands, and the University of B righton. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of A rts and an Honorary Fel2 low of University College London. Her book Rethinking University Teaching has been w idely acclaim ed, and is still used as a set book in courses on learning technology all over the world.
