2 A rare opportunity to see a live orchestral concert of The Snowman accompanying a screening of the film. Also featuring well known excerpts from The Nutcracker - now with animation shown on the big screen - and a seasonal guide to the orchestra. Snowman Enterprises Ltd, 1982, 2015 Carrot Productions are proud to be the ONLY orchestral company to tour with The Snowman. Incredibly, the performances of The Snowman given by Carrot Productions in 2014 amounted to almost a quarter of all the performances given in the world!

3 Since its publication in 1978, Raymond Briggs timeless book, The Snowman - brought to life by its soft, watercolour images - has become a children s classic. In 1982, the wordless book about a magical friendship between a young boy and the snowman he creates, was made into an animated film first shown on Christmas Eve. The beautiful score, composed by Howard Blake, includes the evocative Walking in the Air, made famous by Aled Jones. It proved an immediate hit and subsequently became a heart-warming perennial favourite, delighting audiences of all ages and providing the soundtrack to every child s Christmas. Carrot Productions are offering the opportunity for you to experience the film in a truly unique way...a live, professional orchestra playing the original score along to the film shown on a large screen. The effect is magical and incredibly moving. In addition, a specially commissioned Festive Overture will lead into a seasonal Guide to the Orchestra. Small groups of instruments will play arrangements of popular Christmas melodies, offering audiences the opportunity to see - and hear - all the instruments, including seldom seen instruments such as the the celeste, cor anglais and bass clarinet. Favourites tend to be the harp and the naughty drummer! Following on from this, the orchestra will play what is surely the most Christmassy of all seasonal pieces, The Nutcracker, with brand new animation shown on the big screen. What an amazing performance. The orchestra were just fantastic - and it was so magical to share it with my 2 and a half year old daughter. She loved it too. Cried my eyes out with happy tears the whole way through! Hi! We ve just been to Chester cathedral to see your performance of the snowman. I think it has to be one of the best and most magical events we have ever watched. Our eldest daughter is autistic and wheelchair bound and she was captivated. Our two year old loved it, loved all the instruments you introduced in the orchestra and she danced all the way through the film. Thank you, it was fantastic. We will definitely be booking for next year! Magical venue, brilliant musicians and incredibly talented choristers all made for a very special evening! Awesome! The boy singing Walking in the Air was beautiful. The children were mesmerised by the pieces. Very informative - but in a light attractive way - a lovely first glance at an orchestra. Just the right length of time to keep interest. The film was as moving as ever. Live music added a very special touch. It was like a sparkle of magic in our lives. We saw The Snowman production today. My 3 children aged 3, 8 and 9 were captivated and all want to see it again, as do I! Thank you so very much. It was wonderful to be up so close to the orchestra, and the little boy singing in the box was amazing. Some comments from our younger audience... It was the best thing ever and it made my day. I can t believe I saw a real orchestra with my own eyes. It was like an angel singing in the clouds. To the people that did the music: thankyou so much - it was snowman tastic. The singers were exulent you all were really good. You should be very proud of yourselfs. The selest was really good and the drummer was funny, also the gargantuan harp. Oh I almost forgot the person that talked at the start. Nice ryming! I loved it when the snowman conducted the orchestra! The most amazing concert ever. Everyone was enjoying it, even the orchestra. You could tell because every single person had a big smile on their face!

4 The Paragon Film Orchestra is a professional, 26 piece orchestra comprising some of the top musicians in the country. They all play regularly with major UK orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and have been chosen not only for their incredible musical skills but also for their fun, friendly nature; important when performing to a young audience who may have never seen or heard a live orchestra before. The orchestra is conducted by the Halle s Steve Magee who, incredibly, is able to sync The Snowman score to the film with split second precision. Howard Blake s music is as wonderful to play as it is to listen to, and to enjoy it at it s best, you need the most skilled musicians around.
