All quizzes and tests will be based not only on the reading material assigned, but also the lectures presented and the power-points issued. IT IS THE STUDENT S RESPONSIBILITY TO RESEARCH ANY VARIANCES OF SCHEDULES AND ACQUIRE ANY MISSED HAND- OUTS/MATERIAL COVERED THAT WAS PRESENTED/ ANNOUNCED/DISTRIBUTED AT THE UNATTENDED CLASS. Evaluation & Grading Scale: The grade is based on a total point system with points assigned and awarded to each activity assigned. The student s grade is based on the individual s completed and corrected work. The student may be able to correct homework or projects submitted on time, according to the grading comments and only when directed, per the instructor s discretion. The corrected work will be resubmitted and attached to the original work for consideration of a higher grade. The class schedule and calendar listed on the Course Schedule and Calendar is only an approximation of the work & projects for the semester and is subject to change based on the students and class progress. Grades are recorded in icampus CANVAS support software for viewing. Combined quiz, mid-term,projects in-class projects and final scores will make up the bulk of your grade. Quizzes, projects and assignments usually 65% of total grade points Attendance for all scheduled quizzes and projects is mandatory. Failure to notify instructor prior to a scheduled quiz or project presentation will result in an automatic 0. lateness of assignments will result in a deduction of points from the assigned letter grade homework is expected to be turned in on time, as per the syllabus and as announced in class homework will be counted as part of your grade attendance will be counted as part of your grade midterm usually 15% of grade points final usually 20% of grade points Letter percentages as follows: 100% - 93% = A 92% - 86% = B 85% - 78% = C 77% - 70% = D 69% - 0% = F Grading Criteria Letter grade of A Letter grade of B Letter grade of C Letter grade of D Letter grade of F Exceptional or outstanding mastery: 1) demonstrates a total understanding of the subject material and is proficient in applying the information. 2) Applies the subject mater in a superior manner with no mistakes. Very good mastery: 1) similar to the elements of an A demonstrating a good proficient of the material 2) can easily apply the subject material with minimal mistakes. 4 Incomplete Grade: The grade of incomplete (I) will only be considered for special circumstances only. The student and instructor shall agree upon and document all assignments, projects, papers and etc. needed to complete the course and receive a final grade and agree upon a timeframe for the completion. It is solely the student s responsibility to complete the required work within the arranged timeframe; nonconformance will result in an F. Classroom Policies & Procedures 1) Attendance Policy: Consecutive attendance is crucial to the development of the course s material and students are expected to attend each class session. Class attendance will be taken. Students are expected to promptly attend, thoroughly prepare for and actively participated in class meetings. It is the student s responsibility to obtain missed lecture notes, handouts, announcements, and assignments from classmates. Any items assigned for that class is due on that class day and may be submitted via Canvas or they are considered late. Tardiness and leaving early are a disruption to the class. All students are expected to be on time and stay the entire class period until dismissed by the instructor. Repeated absences/tardiness/ leaving early hampers the student s learning and may be the basis for the instructor to withdraw the student per the withdraw policy. Excused Absence: If absence is unavoidable, notify the instructor prior to a scheduled event as time permits. In the case of sickness, a message prior to the class. If proper timely notice is given, and with permission from the instructor, the absence will be excused. Make-ups for excused absences for projects, quizzes or exams must be coordinated and approved with the instructor within a week of the missed class. Unexcused Absence: If a student does not report and obtain permission from the instructor for an absence, it will be considered an unexcused absence. Unexcused absence forfeits the right for makeup work including assignments, quizzes and exams and the student will receive a zero for any missed work due to the absence. 2) Make-up Policy To make up work the student needs to contact the instructor to arrange. No make-ups of the missed quizzes, tests or class activities will be available for unexcused absences; excused absences will require the class work be completed at the next attended class. Students that are late to or miss a class forfeit the right to make up the work based on the circumstances. 3) Withdrawal Policy: College Statement about grades of 'F' and withdrawal from class Students may withdraw from a course by processing an add/drop form during regular office hours through the Registration and Records Office at Main Campus or Romeoville Campus, or by phone at Please note the withdrawal dates listed on your bill or student schedule. Every course has its own withdrawal date. Failure to withdraw properly may result in a failing grade of F in the course. At any time prior to the deadline dates established, an instructor may withdraw a student from class because of poor attendance, poor academic performance or inappropriate academic behavior, such as, but not limited to, cheating or plagiarism.

5 4) Extra-credit Policy There will be limited chances for extra-credit work and it will be assigned on a case by case basis. No extra credit work will count unless all the regular assigned work is completed. 5) Final Exam There will be a final exam taken during the scheduled exam time during finals week. All students shall complete the final exam and failure to do so will result with a zero in the final exam category of the grade. The Final Exam will be graded and the associated points will be given with one exception; no points will be awarded for a test that receives a grade less than 70%. 6) Academic Misconduct: The objective of the academic honor code is to sustain a learning-centered environment in which all students are expected to demonstrate integrity, honor, and responsibility, and recognize the importance of being accountable for one s academic behavior. Penalties are 1) A zero (0) grade for plagiarized assignment (the copying of other s work without noting it). a) All chapter question answers should be the student s interpretation of the material in the book and not a copy of the book s text. b) Answers on all tests should be the student s interpretation of the material presented and not a copy of the course book. c) The student shall not use another student s work in part or whole for anything requiring a grade in this class. 2) A zero (0) grade for cheating on a test or quiz. (previous comments apply) 3) It is at the Instructor decision on the method to address any academic misconduct; 1) withdrawal from the course, 2) give the student an F for the course and/or 3) report the incident to the Dean of Students 4) The student may appeal according to the process in the Student Handbook. 5) Exception -- Some of this class's exercises will encourage the students to collaborate and work as a team to simulate the work environment, but each team member shall perform their portion of the assignment. The final exam is excluded from this exception and shall be done individually by each student. Please review the code of conduct for additional information and definitions. 7) Intellectual Property Students own and hold the copyright to the original work they produce in class. It is a widely accepted practice to use student work as part of the college's internal self-evaluation, assessment procedures, program accreditation or other efforts to improve teaching and learning and in promoting programs and recruiting new students.
