2015 Rules & Regulations and Class Descriptions Judging: All decisions of the judge are final. Please do not approach the judge at any point during the show. The judge may discuss aspects of the show with an exhibitor after the show if the judge is willing. The judge will be guided by AQHA and USEF rules as they apply to individual classes and breeds. Entries: Entry forms are to be filled out and mailed with payment two weeks prior to the show. Late entries will be allowed if stalls are still available. The forms are to be as complete as possible. However, exhibitors will be allowed to add and drop classes during the event. This can be done in the show office during the event. The office will run a tab for each horse and rider combination. Please stop in and take care of your tab on the last day of the event if you added or dropped any classes. Stalls: Stalls are located in our show barn and will include two bags of bedding. Additional bedding may be purchased at $7.50/bag. All exhibitors entering Saturday and Sunday classes must rent a stall. All exhibitors entering classes only on Friday must rent a stall or pay a jump out fee. Exhibitor Age: Exhibitors should enter classes based on their age as of January 1 st, 2015, with the exception of All Ages classes and Beginner classes. Beginner Classes: Beginner classes are designed for the beginning level riders and/or beginning level horses who are in their first or second riding season, and are not yet confident loping/cantering a show. Rider and horse combinations entering any Beginner classes may not enter any 3 gaited classes with that same rider and horse combination. Beginner riders should enter into their appropriate age division classes on Friday, and should only enter in classes labeled Beginner or All Ages (with the exception of classes and 38-40) on Saturday and Sunday. Please contact the show manager with any questions regarding Beginner classes. Riders and horses that are confident at loping/cantering should not enter any Beginner classes. Leading Riders: Riders that are led by an adult in any classes will receive a participant ribbon, but will not be placed above riders that are not led, with the exception of the Lead Line class where all riders must be led. In the interest of handler s safety, riders being led cannot enter in classes in which there are other horses being ridden in the arena at the same time, such as Western Pleasure or Hunter Under Saddle. Dress Code: Riding boots with heels and long pants must be worn in all classes. A long sleeve button down shirt or show shirt/jacket, and a hat or a helmet must be worn in all of Saturday s Performance Classes. Tank tops, sandals and tennis shoes are not to be worn in any classes. Helmets: Riders are required to wear helmets for classes All riders are strongly encouraged to wear helmets during all other classes and warm-up riding. Grand Prize Giveaway: The Grand Prize Giveaway will take place on Saturday, August 29 th between class 25 and 26. Riders must be present to be eligible to win.

Timed Classes: These classes will be timed with electric timers. If a rider does not complete the pattern correctly, they will place below all riders that completed the pattern correctly or will not place at all. Pylons will be placed at the location of the start and finish line. If a rider crosses the start or finish line before they finish the pattern, they will not be given a time, and will not place, or will place last in the class. Barrel Race: A timed event in which exhibitors will ride a cloverleaf pattern. Exhibitors may choose to circle either the right or left barrel first, ride to the opposite barrel next and then ride the third barrel last. Knocking over a barrel will add a five second penalty to the exhibitor s time. Flag Race: A timed event in which the exhibitor races around the outside of three barrels, set in the same pattern as the barrel race. The exhibitor must announce which direction they would like to start. A flag will be placed in a bucket, on top of the first barrel. The exhibitor must ride to the first barrel, pick up the flag, ride to the outside of the second barrel and third barrel, and stick the flag inside the bucket of sand sitting on the third barrel. Once the flag has been placed in the bucket the exhibitor must cross the finish line. The flag must stay stuck upright in the bucket, a flag laying in the bucket our outside of the bucket will result in a broken pattern. Pole Bending: A timed event in which exhibitors will ride a straight line on either the right or left side of six poles, weave between the poles, circling the end pole, weaving back, and then running a straight line back to the finish line. Knocking over a pole will add a five second penalty to the exhibitor s time. Five seconds will be added for each down pole.

Performance Class Patterns: Copies of all patterns will be posted in the show office as well as at the in gate. Halter: A class in which the judge will evaluate the confirmation of the horses. The classes will be divided by the gender of the horse. Horses are to be led in a halter. Horses will be judged on their balance, condition and structural correctness. Exhibitors will be judged on their ability to present their horse to the judge and execute the judge s pattern. Lead Line: A class for young children that are not able to ride a horse safely on their own. An adult or older child will lead the horse, while the exhibitor sits on the horse, holding the reins. Actual control of the horse will be done by the handler on the ground. Exhibitors will be asked to walk, trot and stop. The exhibitor will be judged on their seat, leg and hand position. The judge may ask exhibitors questions about their horse. Rosette ribbons will be awarded in this class to the top six exhibitors. All other exhibitors will receive a ribbon for participating in the class. Riders may not enter the Lead Line class if they are going to ride without a handler in an other classes during the show. Riders that enter in this class are not to enter in other Western Pleasure classes. Western Pleasure: A western class in which the exhibitors compete simultaneously, going around the perimeter of the arena. Exhibitors will be asked to walk, jog and lope their horses and reverse the direction of their horses. The judge will evaluate the horse s quality of movement and manners during the class. Western Horsemanship: A western class in which the exhibitor will ride a pattern created by the judge. The judge will evaluate the rider s ability to sit correctly, communicate with their horse effectively, and perform each maneuver of the pattern. In addition to the pattern work, riders may be asked to ride around the perimeter of the arena simultaneously.

Trail: A western class which tests the maneuverability of the horse through a pattern of obstacles. The judge s pattern will include three mandatory obstacles as well as other obstacles. The mandatory obstacles are one in which the rider and horse will open, pass through, and close a gate. The other two are a back through obstacle and riding over poles set on the ground. The exhibitor will be scored based on the horse s willingness and ability to complete the trail course. Western Riding: A western pattern class in which the exhibitor and horse complete one of four western riding patterns selected by the judge. Horses that are able to change leads fluidly in the middle of the pylons will score higher. The judge will evaluate the rider s ability to sit correctly and communicate effectively with their horse. Spotted Horse Western Pleasure: A western pleasure class in which only horses with spots will be allowed to enter. A horse will be considered spotted if the horse has any spots anywhere on their body other than their face and legs. Solid Horse Western Pleasure: A western pleasure class in which only solid horses will be allowed to enter. A horse with face markings or leg markings will still be considered a solid horse. Mint Julep: Exhibitors will be given glasses with equal amounts of green tinted water. Exhibitors will simultaneously ride around the perimeter of the arena holding their glass. Exhibitors will follow the judge s directions while holding their glass. Exhibitors that drop their glass must come into the center of the arena. The exhibitor that has the glass that is the most full at the end of the class will win. Ball and Bucket: A timed event in which exhibitors be given a ball prior to the start of the race. They will run down to a bucket, and drop the ball in the bucket. Once the ball has been dropped in bucket the exhibitor must cross the finish line. If the ball is dropped outside of the bucket it will result in a broken pattern. Exhibitors that do not do the pattern correctly or do not get the ball in the bucket will be placed at the bottom of the class.

Soda Pop Race: A timed event in which the exhibitor is to race to a barrel at the end of the arena, quickly drink a cup of soda, drop the empty cup on the barrel and race back to the finish line.
