1 University of Minnesota Crookston Graphics Standards and Style Guide for the Athletics Department Athletics Uses Three Primary Marks or a combination of these: Golden Eagle Head Block M with Crookston Eagle Head + Wordmark Block M + Word Mark Points to Note The Golden Eagle and the Block M are the top priority official marks for UMC Athletics. The eagle head should always face left. We do not use the Block M without the word Crookston below it, as the M alone represents either U of M Golden Gopher Athletics or the U of M system as a whole. There are two marks that are considered Secondary Marks: Regal leaning on M Note: this is an informal mark for internal use and is not intended to replace the Golden Eagle Head. It should not be used in place of the Golden Eagle Head and should NEVER be used on uniforms. UMC Block Letters Note: this is not intended to be used on print materials, but only on uniforms.

2 Wordmark The wordmark is our official logo. Include it on all publications and other visual communications developed for the University and its official units and departments. Use approved, unaltered versions only. Use the wordmark in the University's official Colors or use it in black and white. For example, on a twocolor, purple and black printed piece, use the black version. Never screen the wordmark or print over it. You may print it over backgrounds and photos if there's enough contrast. The wordmark is not a font and cannot be duplicated by a font. NEVER attempt to type the wordmark or use it in a sentence. The wordmark SHOULD NOT be blended or incorporated into other logos and unit names Buffer Space Leave a buffer space the height of the letter "N" between the wordmark and other graphic elements or the edge of the page. Placement Place the wordmark at the top or bottom of a piece on the cover or front, where it isn't overshadowed by other elements. Block M + Crookston The block M says "University of Minnesota" to everyone who sees it. All colleges, departments, student organizations and other units are encouraged to use it, as opposed to creating an individual logo identity. The Block M alone signifies the Twin Cities campus or the entire University of Minnesota system. To represent the Crookston campus, it should be used with the word Crookston. Use the approved, unaltered Crookston campus version only sizes may vary. Use the block M in addition to the wordmark, not as a substitute for it (except student organizations, which may not use the wordmark). The block M MAY NOT be blended or incorporated into other logos. The block M MAY NOT be placed on an angle or cut off. Buffer Space Leave a buffer space the height of the M serif between the block M and graphic elements or the edge of the page.

3 The old "bar M Crookston" is no longer an official mark and SHOULD NOT be used. Placement Place the wordmark and block M combination at the top or bottom of a piece on the cover or front, where it isn't overshadowed by other elements. Golden Eagle Head Logo 1. The Golden Eagle logo adopted by the Image and Marketing Committee on April 9, 2001, is the official University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagle Logo to be used as a major mark. The Golden Eagle is registered as a trademark 2. The Golden Eagle logo always faces left. It does not include a background. 3. The use of any other Golden Eagle Logo marks is not approved. 4. The buffer zone for the Golden Eagle logo is 1/4.

4 Block M as a Graphic Element University Relations must approve any design that uses the block M as a graphic element as shown below. This includes designs that: Use the block M in a pattern. Crop, screen or otherwise alter the logo. Official Colors The official colors of the University of Minnesota are maroon and gold. To promote the University's brand, use maroon and gold as the predominant colors in designs for print and the Web. The Golden Eagle logo uses the same gold and the one color option can be printed in maroon, gold, black or white as well. To present a uniform maroon and gold on all surfaces, use Pantones 202C and 136C when printing on coated (shiny) paper and Pantone 201U and 116U when printing on uncoated paper. Black and white images work equally well on both types of paper. Uncoated Paper Gold: Pantone 116U Maroon: Pantone 201U Coated Paper Gold: Pantone 136C Maroon: Pantone 202C Uncoated Paper (CMYK) Gold: C:0 M:16 Y:100 K:0 Maroon: C:0 M:100 Y:63 K:29 Coated Paper (CMYK) Gold: C:0 M:27 Y:76 K:0 Maroon: C:0 M:100 Y:61 K:43 Web Colors Gold: R:255 G:204 B:51 (#FFCC33) Maroon: R:122 G:0 B:25 (#7A0019)

5 Print Typography and Fonts Like color, consistent use of typography helps ensure that we're speaking with one voice. The University of Minnesota Crookston's suggested fonts for Athletics are: For text and body Arial, Calibri, Neutraface, or Times New Roman For headlines and titles Furore, Intramural, or Neutraface The headline font used across the University of Minnesota system is Neutraface, the Driven to Discover brand typeface. For Easy Readability Use a 10 point type size or larger. Limit your use of type treatments (such as bold type, italics and underlining) to three treatments or fewer per publication. Use type size to clearly distinguish between headlines, subheads and body copy, and apply those elements consistently. Equal Opportunity Statement Inclusion of the equal opportunity statement is required on any print materials (excluding promo items, uniforms, and clothing). It can be as small as 8 point font. There are three versions. Short Form (for posters and cases of severe space limitation) The University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity educator and employer. 6 Correct and Incorrect Use of the Wordmark The following are examples of incorrect ways to use the wordmark, plus correct alternatives. INCORRECT: Wordmark is incorporated into a sentence. CORRECT INCORRECT: Adjacent type attempts to duplicate the wordmark type style CORRECT INCORRECT: Insufficient buffer space around the wordmark. CORRECT INCORRECT: The wordmark should not be sandwiched between two elements. CORRECT Wordmark and Unit Combinations The wordmark may not be incorporated or blended into another logo or name. It may be used in combination with a unit's own logo. Combining the wordmark with your unit's logo or name communicates your unique connection to the University. Templates have been created for combining a unit logo with the wordmark. Here are some correct combinations:

8 Uniforms Primary Colors should include Maroon and/or Gold; secondary colors may include Black, White or Gray. Match as closely as possible to Pantone Maroon (Pantone 202C) and Gold (Pantone 136C). Uniforms must feature the word Crookston or UMC, but cannot feature both the M logo and then UMC. If the Block M is used, Crookston must be included immediately below. The Block M may not be used alone anywhere on the uniform (pants included). The word Crookston must be immediately below the Block M. Similarly if the word Minnesota is used, the word Crookston must be immediately below, including on any hats. All uniforms must be checked with Sports Information Director and/or Director of Communications for approval before they are sent to production. If a uniform is produced before approval and it is later determined to not meet the official guidelines, the sport will still be responsible for the costs even though the uniforms will not be used and will have to be reproduced within guidelines. If you have questions, it is best to contact the sport information director or the director of communications, public relations, and marketing PRIOR to having any production done. They will help ensure your materials and uniforms meet both the official University of Minnesota and Crookston campus guidelines.
