1 Lesson Plans November st Block - 7th Grade Language Arts LANGUAGE!- The objective for the Language! curriculum is as followed: Unit 8 Lessons 1-10, Step 1 (Phonemic Awareness and Phonics): Students will be able to say, write and identify sounds for digraphs sh, th, ch, wh, -ng and the trigraph -tch in spoken words. Step 2( Word Recognition and Spelling): Students will read and spell with the sound-spelling correspondences fromt he is and previous units. They will also read and spell the Essential Words: about, any, many, out, word, and write. Lastly they will read and spell compund words. Step 3 (Vocab and Morphology) : Students will be able to define the Unit Vocabulary Words. They will write more plural nouns and third person singular, present tense verbs that take -es. They will also be able to identify homophones and antonyms with digraphs and trigraphs. Step 4 (Grammar and Usage) : Students will be able to identify and write present progressive verbs, past tense verbs, and verbs with irregular past tense forms. They will also combine predicates to form compound predicates. Step 5 (Listening and Reading Comprehension): Students will read with inflection, phrasing, and expression. They will also identify words with digraphs, trigraphs, and transition words in text. They will also define new words using context clues. Step 6 (Speaking and Writing): Students will retrieve information and answer questions using complete sentences. They will create Masterpiece Sentences and paragraphs from Blueprint for Writing. Monday Bellwork: Students will complete a small worksheet where they have to find the nouns and verbs in the sentences. Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. After SSR students will write in their journals. They will write about what they are going to do for Thanksgiving break (5 minutes). Students will then complete Lesson 2 steps 5 and 6 in the Language! book. Tuesday Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. After SSR students will free write in their writing notebooks (5 minutes). Students will begin Lesson 3 Steps 1-4. Wednesday Shortened Day Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. After SSR students will write about what they are thankful for. After writing we will do a short lesson on the story of Thanksgiving. Thursday

2 Friday ***Checking for understanding: (In lessons 5, 8, and 10 there are assessments over what has been learned in each unit). Each day, throughout lesson teacher will ask students if they understand the information they have learned by using thumbs up/ thumbs down. During in-class assignments the teacher will walk around the room to check studentsʼ work and clarify understanding. At the very end of class, every day, the teacher will ask the student to tell her at least one thing they had learned that day.

3 Lesson Plans November nd Block - 8th Grade Language Arts LANGUAGE!- The objective for the Language! curriculum is as followed: Unit 14 Lessons 1-10, Step 1 (Phonemic Awareness and Phonics): Students will sound for vowels ar, or, er, ir, and ur. They will be able to write the letters for those sounds as well. They will also identify the r-controlled syllables and stressed syllables. Step 2( Word Recognition and Spelling): Students will read and spell words with r-controlled syllables. They will spell the short u with o+er (eg., other). They will also read and spell words with prefixes (inter- and under-) and contractions with are. Lastly, students will read and spell the Essential Words: day, little, may, new, say, way. Step 3 (Vocab and Morphology) : Students will be able to identify antonyms, synonyms, word attributes and homophones. They will use the meaning of prefixes to define words. Also use comparative and superlative adjectives (-er, -est). Step 4 (Grammar and Usage) : Students will identify and use nouns verbs, adjectives, prepositions and perpositional phrases. They will identify the complete subject and complete predicate. They will identify and write sentences with a compound subject or predicate. Lastly, they will use the conjunction OR to build sentences with compound parts. Step 5 (Listening and Reading Comprehension): Students will use context-based strategies to define words. They will identify signal words for comprehension: show and use. Step 6 (Speaking and Writing): Students will organize main ideas and details for writing. They will write responses to questions with signal words: show and use. They will also use transition words for time sequence in paragraph development. Monday Bellwork: Students will complete a small worksheet where they have to find the nouns and verbs in the sentences. Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. After SSR students will write in their journals. They will write about what they are going to do for Thanksgiving break (5 minutes). Students will then complete Lesson 2 steps 5 and 6 in the Language! book. Tuesday Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. After SSR students will free write in their writing notebooks (5 minutes). Students will begin Lesson 3 Steps 1-4. Wednesday Shortened Day Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. They will be able to write the sound /n/, /l/, /h/, /r/, /j/, and /p/. Step 2( Word Recognition and Spelling): Students will read and spell words with sound-spelling correspondences from this and the previous unit. They will also read and spell the Essential words: do, said, to, who, you, and your. Step 3 (Vocab and Morphology) : Students will define the Unit Vocabulary words. They will also identify and generate antonyms for the Unit Vocabulary. Lastly, they will add ʻs to mean singular possession. Step 4 (Grammar and Usage) : Students will identify the subject and predicate in a sentence. They will also build sentences with one subject and one predicate. Step 5 (Listening and Reading Comprehension): Students will select the topic and details from informational text. Step 6 (Speaking and Writing): Students will generate sentences that present facts (statements). Answer questions beginning with WHO. They will also record information on a graphic organizer. Monday Bellwork: Students will complete a small worksheet where they have to find the nouns and verbs in the sentences. Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. After SSR students will write in their journals. They will write about what they are going to do for Thanksgiving break (5 minutes). Students will then complete Lesson 2 steps 5 and 6 in the Language! book. Tuesday Lesson: SSR for 10 minutes. Relevance: The relevance for the students to learn this curriculum is to become better readers and writers. This will not only help them to progress to new units with in the curriculum but to help them with every day life and other subjects. I can: I can increase reading fluency and comprehension skills I can increase my writing skills.
