Table of contents Scopus homepage Reviewing your search results Refining your search Author Search Search History View a Scopus result in more detail Scopus result (continued) Citation Tracker Citation Tracker (continued) Citation Tracker (continued) My List Register for a personal username and password My Alerts and My Profile
Scopus homepage Basic Search:. Begin your search on Scopus directly from the homepage. Search Fields:. Choose a field within which to perform your search. Note that the default is set to Article Title, Abstract and Keywords. Limit to: 3. Restrict your search to a particular date range, document type or subject area, if desired. Advanced Search: 4. Click on the tab for the Advanced Search where you can enter a command line search using Boolean operators. Author Search: 5. Choose the Author Search tab to search for a specific author by name. 6. Sources: Begin browsing the list of journals by title, subject area, source type and subscription status (if applicable). The source page displays active versus inactive titles, title history such as title changes and latest issues covered by Scopus.
Reviewing your search results Scopus tab:. View the list of results from over 5,000 peer-reviewed titles in Scopus. Web tab:. View results from Scirus, the web search engine for scientific information. Patents tab: 3. View patent results from key patent offices. Selected Sources tab: 4. View a results list that displays customized search results from Scirus institutional resources and special subject collections. A Selected Sources tab will only appear if it is set up by your librarian. Sorting your results: 5. The tabular display of results allows you to easily sort your results based on year, document relevance, author(s), source title and number of times the document has been cited. Abstract + Refs: 6. Link to the abstract, references and cited-by s of a particular document. View at Publisher: 7. Link to the document at the publisher site. Entitled Full Text Linking: 8. If your library has set up entitled full text linking on Scopus, a full text link will appear. A full text link will only appear if you are entitled to it.
Refining your search 3 WITH SCOPUS YOU CAN BEGIN WITH A BROAD SEARCH AND QUICKLY REFINE YOUR RESULTS TO THOSE WHICH ARE RELEVANT TO YOUR RESEARCH. 3 Refine Results:. This box gives you a quick overview of all results of your search. From here you can refine your search by clicking on limit to or exclude for selected results across the following categories: Source Title, Author Name, Year, Document Type and Subject Area. Once you choose to limit to or exclude items, your entire result set will be recategorized appropriately. Search within results:. Here you can enter additional search terms to search within your results. This search may broaden your original search by searching in additional fields, such as References, Authors, Source title, Affiliation and Editor. Keep up-to-date: 3. Here you can easily edit and save your research as an alert. You can also add a search to your RSS Reader. Your RSS reader will retrieve the latest articles that match your search.
Author Search 4 Author Search:. The Author Search feature allows you to search for particular authors. You can search for a part or the whole author s name. Simply enter a last name and an initial or a first name if you know it, and then click on Search. 3 Author Results:. Review the results list to select the author you re interested in. The Scopus Author Identifier helps you find a person, not just a name. The preferred author name is displayed along with name variants. You can choose to display the results alphabetically or by document count. Note: Some documents in Scopus do not have sufficient information for the Author Identifier to accurately match them together, even though they are written by the same author. To ensure that your selection is complete it is advisable to review the results list and, if necessary, add any single, unmatched authors to your selection by placing a tick in the checkbox next to the name. Author Details: 3. From the author results list, click on the link Details to access the Author Details page. It displays the contextual information about the author so you can verify this is the person you re interested in. From here you can also view the author s most recently published affiliation, the number of citations received and generate a citation overview by clicking on citation tracker. The document results may be added to a list to be viewed at a later date.
Search History 5 Search History:. Following one or more searches, return to the search form to see your session-based search history at the bottom of the page. From here, you can combine two or more searches and also edit, save, or set up an alert for a particular search. You can also save searches from each session in My Profile (see page 3) for future use.
View a Scopus result in more detail View at Publisher:. Link to the document at the publisher site. Entitled Full Text linking:. If your library has set up entitled full text linking on Scopus, a full text link will appear for the document. Other Customized Links: 3. Additional services can be linked to from Scopus, such as web search engines or other databases to which your library subscribes. These links allow you to access supplementary information about the topics you are interested in. Output and Add to List Options: 4. You can print all, or a selection of these documents, export the information to a citation management program in RIS or ASCII format, them to yourself or a colleague or create a Bibliography all via the Output button. You can also add documents to your personal list using the Add to List button. Cited by: 5. If another author has cited the document you are viewing, you ll see the two most recent documents on the right hand side of the page. Below the first two is a link to the full list of the documents.
Scopus result (continued) References: This is a list of documents that are referenced by authors of the document you are viewing. 7. Cited X times: Each reference contains information on the number of citations the article has received and a link to those citations. 8. Alert Me: Set up a document citation alert for this article. You will be notified by if this document is cited in Scopus. 9. Track article web and patent citations: View citations from carefully selected web and patent sources that cite a Scopus article. Click directly through to a results list of all the web and patent pages in Scopus that have cited the article. Related Documents: 0. View a list of documents that share one or more references with the document you are viewing. More options:. Any additional activated links to other pre-defined sources such as web and federated search engines or databases, will be displayed under More Options.
Citation Tracker 8 The Scopus Citation Tracker lets you find, check and track citation data year by year in real-time. You can choose the articles and the years you want to assess. TRACK THE CITATIONS OF A PARTICULAR AUTHOR Author name:. Search for an author of interest. Citation overview:. Select the author and click on citation tracker. Document Citation Overview: 3. After the citation overview is processed, the Scopus Citation Tracker shows an overview of the author s articles and the number of times they have been cited each year. Exclude author self citations: 4. You can exclude the author s self citations by clicking on exclude author self citations. Sort the citation overview: 5. You can sort the citation overview by years descending and ascending, and by the number of citations descending and ascending. Date Range: 6. View citation data, available from 996, by changing the date range. By default you will see an overview for the last two years. The Citation Tracker can process up to,000 records simultaneously.
Citation Tracker (continued) View Saved List: 7. You can access your saved list at any time from My Profile. Select all the documents and click on citation tracker to create an updated overview. Any new citations received since the last visit will be included in the new overview. Save to list: 8. To enable easy reviewing on a regular basis, save the overview list in My Profile. View article reference: 9. Browse the mouse over a particular document to view the full reference. You can click from the citation overview to the record directly by clicking on the article title.
Citation Tracker (continued) 0 TRACK THE CITATIONS OF A PARTICULAR TOPIC. Run your search:. Run your basic or advanced search query of interest and sort the results. Citation Tracker:. Select the articles of interest and click on Citation Tracker. Follow steps 3-9 as described under track the citations of a particular author as shown from page 8.
My List My List allows you to choose and create a collection of documents from any results page. This can be used to: Create an at-a-glance overview to track citations. Export or print results all at once, instead of having to print multiple times from several results pages. Save a collection of documents for processing at a later date, for example a list of all documents authored by you or by a colleague. It is possible to add documents to My List from both the results page, the records page and the author details page. You can select one or multiple documents and click the add to list button. My List can be saved on Scopus. Previously saved lists can be viewed via My Saved Lists in My Profile. You need to be logged in with username and password to make use of this feature.
Register for a personal username and password In order to take advantage of the personalized features on Scopus, you will be asked to register for a username and password. With a username and password, you can set up a personal profile allowing you to save searches, set up both search alerts and document citation alerts and save lists to your profile. To register, click on the register link from the top right hand corner of any page in Scopus. If you d like to be able to access Scopus remotely (e.g. from home), please request a remote login ID from your librarian instead. Note: Your ScienceDirect username and password will also work on Scopus and vice versa.
My Alerts and My Profile 3 My Alerts:. From My Alerts you can quickly and easily add, delete and edit both search alerts and document citation alerts. My Profile:. This area allows you to modify: your saved searches your alerts your saved lists your personal profile & Scopus settings your RefWorks settings (if applicable) your password
