Documentation WHY is documentation important? Gives us access to data resulting in insights that help drive management decisions Each piece of data is important, but when combined can show a much more complete picture You cannot manage what you do not measure. W. Edwards Deming
Yield & Moisture Systems Theory of Operation S Series
Yield & Moisture Systems Theory of Operation S Series
Yield & Moisture Systems Theory of Operation 70 Series Mass Flow Sensor The mass flow sensor senses the amount of grain entering the grain tank in pounds per second. The sensor is mounted above the base of the fountain auger. As the clean grain elevator chain throws grain into the grain tank it first contacts the mass flow impact plate. Hall Effect Sensor Impact Plate
Yield & Moisture Systems Theory of Operation 70 Series Moisture Sensor The moisture sensor is installed directly below the mass flow sensor. The grain then drops into the moisture sensor. The grain fills the sensing chamber with the fill sensor at the mouth of the sensor sensing if the chamber is full. When the sensor is full, the moisture sensing plate measures the moisture of the grain for 1-2 seconds. After measured, the grain is pushed out with the plunger and the cycle starts over again. The plunger has a dual purpose role of pushing the grain out and wiping the chamber clean on every cycle.
Single Point Calibration
Multiple Point Calibration
Component Inspection Checklist Clean Grain Elevator Chain Paddles Clean Grain Elevator Chain Housing Paddle Tip Clearance Clean Grain Elevator Speed Sensor Elevator Mass Flow Sensor Ground Speed Elevator Moisture Sensor Harness and Connectors Calibrations
Clean Grain Elevator Chain Inspection Loosen the Clean Grain Elevator drive belt idler.
Clean Grain Elevator Chain Inspection Open the Clean Grain Elevator lower boot door Slowly pull on the drive belt or elevator chain and rotate the elevator chain. While rotating the chain, closely inspect every elevator paddle and chain links.
Clean Grain Elevator Chain Inspection Look for any interference or rubbing of paddles on the housing or bearing flanges
Clean Grain Elevator Chain Inspection Check for cracked or broken chain link side bars or paddle attaching ears.
Clean Grain Elevator Chain Inspection Be sure rubber paddles are not missing or the paddles are loose. Worn or frayed paddles can affect accuracy. Check chain tension weekly. A chain running too loose will cause the paddles to double over backward and not effectively convey grain away from the clean grain auger boot. A loose chain also causes the mass flow sensor to be inaccurate.
Paddle Tip Clearance 1. Rotate clean grain elevator chain until a chain paddle is vertical at the top of the elevator housing in the grain tank.
Paddle Tip Clearance 2. Measure the distance from the tip of the paddle to the elevator housing on every paddle. Always measure at the same location for each paddle.
Paddle Tip Clearance 3. If the distance between the paddle and the housing is consistently more than 13mm (1/2 ) on multiple paddles, install KXE10374 Paddle Tip Clearance Kit.
Moisture Sensor Maintenance (S Series Moisture Sensor) Clean the Sensor Seasonally as necessary especially if moisture readings are erratic.
Proximity sensor should be checked and cleaned At the beginning of each season. If moisture sensor readings become erratic Proximity Sensor (S Series Moisture Sensor)
Remove Plunger head and check seal Inspect sump behind plunger for plugging Clean and inspect sensor contact plates for wear and cleanliness Moisture Sensor 70 Series
Moisture Sensor 70 Series
Moisture Sensor 70 Series
Clean Grain Elevator Speed 1. Engage the separator and go to Diagnostic Addresses by controller. Go to AYM Controller address 117 and check elevator speed at high idle. S660 = 417rpm S670 = 417rpm S680 = 417rpm S690 = 460rpm
Clean Grain Elevator Speed 2. If speeds are low, intermittent, or Zero, check the Clean Grain Elevator Low Shaft Speed Sensor on the LH Side of the combine, and the bearings on the auger shaft.
Impact Plate and Mass - Flow Sensor Visually inspect and clean around the Mass Flow Sensor and Impact Plate.
Mass Flow Sensor Crop flows over the impact plate of the mass flow sensor, therefore wear can be expected over time. The urethane plate is replaceable and easily accessible in the grain tank. A worn impact plate will cause inaccurate yield readings. Material will stick behind the impact plate and the pressure gives an incorrect reading. The material will need to be cleaned out regularly behind the sensor. Worn Impact Plate
CALIBRATIONS: MOISTURE
Frequently Asked Questions How often do I need to calibrate? At least once per year per crop How accurate will my Combine Harvest Monitor be? +/- 3-5% of the Scale Ticket Weight +/- 1% of Moisture Reading When do I need to Recalibrate? Understand harvest conditions then go from there.
Moisture Calibration 70 Series Moisture calibration should be done once per crop per year There is an option to use a fixed moisture value during harvest operation
