2 퇀 THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING OUR BODY ARMOUR This booklet will give you all the necessary information required for wear, care and maintenance of your protective vest. You will find instructions on: Getting to know your protective vest How to fit your vest correctly Care of the outer covers Care of the armour panels Storage instructions Inspection procedure General health and safety Please adhere to these instructions to ensure the longevity of your protective vest INSPECTION PROCEDURE 1. On every occasion when the panels are removed from the covers they should be checked for any damage. Damage can be; Rips, tears, slashes or abrasive damage to the outer armour cover exposing the inner protective layers Damage to armour panel as a result of ballistic attack or stabbing If detected this should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities, the armour panels should then be removed from service as the protection level could be compromised. Failure to do so, will invalidate the warranty and product liability insurance. 2. In the event of any damage being found, no unauthorised in-house repairs should be carried out as this will invalidate the warranty and product liability insurance. 1 10

3 HEALTH AND SAFETY ESSEX POLICE BLACK OVERT HMO-003ESX The body armour issued to you has been designed with a built in ventilation system which has proven to be effective in reducing perspiration problems. However, no body armour system can completely eliminate this problem. In warmer weather to avoid de-hydration the body armour should be removed periodically. Officers are reminded to maintain body fluid levels and regular intakes of water may be required To ensure the best fit and comfort possible, this armour system has been personally fitted and manufactured to your individual size and posture. In the interest of hygiene it is important that all officers should wash their carrier on a regular basis in accordance with the manufacture s instructions. 4 ESSEX POLICE BLACK OVERT HMO-003ESX CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ARMOUR Wipe over by hand using a soft sponge or cloth and a mild detergent with warm water Do not immerse panel in water Do not use bleach or starch Do not machine wash Do not dry clean Do not line or tumble dry STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS Panels must not be exposed to direct sunlight Panels must be stored flat or hung up Keep away from heat, e.g. heating pipes, radiators etc. It is critical that the armour panels are assembled into the carrier with the body side label facing the body. 5 HMC-001 FITTING INSTRUCTIONS HMC-001 -WHITE COVERT 1. First place the garment over the head 2. Fasten the straps around the body but not too tight as shown WASH CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARRIER 1. Remove all protective armour panels from the carrier. 2. Ensure that hook and pile fasteners and zips are in closed position during washing cycle. 3. Automatic machine, see wash instructions on the carrier care label. This product can be washed at 40 C. Household detergents can be used in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions. 5. Do not use bleach- Do not dry clean. 6. Carrier may be tumble dried at medium temperature setting or may be line dried. 7. Carrier must be completely dry before inserting panels or inserts. 6 VENTILATION AND HEAT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM This garment is designed to move moisture and speed up the evaporation process. This is crucial to keeping the body dry and comfortable. Carrier Inside Front Panel Heat is dissipated through mesh panels in the carrier outer cover. Carrier Inside Back Panel Raised profiles on the inner lining assist in the transfer of heat and moisture from the body. HMO-003 FITTING INSTRUCTIONS Unzip garment Open the right waist tab and don the garment Ensure the panel is sitting evenly across the body, fix down the right and left waist tab as firmly as is comfortable for you Once the garment has been balanced in this way there is no need to adjust the left waist tab when donning or doffing the garment There is a Velcro tab on the inside shoulder, this is to give additional support to the panel Zip up the outer garment ensuring the Velcro tab makes connection with the front panel In a sitting position open the shoulder zips and smooth down Zip shoulders back up Once adjusted the shoulder need not be readjusted again When doffing cover fold back end section of waist tab as shown to avoid snagging of Velcro on other parts of the cover Carrier Outer cover 5 6
