INVEST IN INSPIRATIONAL PRIMARY TEACHERS FOR YOUR PUPILS DEVELOP A PARTNERSHIP FOR YOUR SCHOOL Find out how we can work together visit Teach First is a registered charity, number
What is Teach First? We are an education charity. We recruit high calibre, passionate individuals to teach in schools serving pupils from low income communities. We work in partnership with schools across England and Wales to ensure that all children have an excellent education. Our trainees join a Leadership Development Programme which involves teaching for a minimum of two years, achieving a PGCE and accessing wider leadership skills training. Trainees receive high quality training and support throughout the two years to ensure they can raise the achievement, access and aspirations of their pupils. Partner with us and you can: recruit talented members of staff to fill a vacancy within your school who are committed to raising the achievements of your pupils; use your experience to contribute to their training focusing on the outcomes you want for your pupils; work with a national network of people and organisations dedicated to achieving change in education. Together we can ensure all children get the opportunities they deserve. Which schools do we work with? Eligibility is determined by a points system that combines not only economic deprivation amongst pupils but also the local achievement gap between poorer children and their wealthier peers. The criteria means 32% of English primary schools are eligible to work with Teach First.
Why partner with us? Our trainees undergo a rigorous recruitment and selection process before they are accepted onto the Teach First Leadership Development Programme. Your school s requirements are closely matched with the skills of our trainees to ensure you get the right person to fill your vacancy. Trainees commit to a minimum of two years at your school where they teach an NQT timetable. Their 13 month Initial Teacher Training starts with our six week residential Summer Institute which provides trainees with intensive preparation for teaching in a primary school. Trainees complete both their PGCE training year and their first year as an NQT in your school. They have the option of starting a Masters in Year 2 which can bring further insights to your school, as well as their teaching. We are the only route which delivers bespoke training for those who want to work exclusively in schools to break the link between low socio-economic background and poor educational attainment. Those who choose not to stay in teaching beyond the two years go on to a range of roles in education, business, the third sector and government, where they can make a difference from outside the classroom. To find out more about the benefits of becoming a Teach First partner visit and contact your regional team. Teach First is about overcoming deprivation and having that absolute focus on high academic achievement. They select people who have a set of values that make them really committed members of staff. Whatever the circumstances are, they re really resilient and keep going. Rebecca Ingram, Headteacher, Oakwood Primary School, Yorkshire
What support do we offer? We work collaboratively with our partners to maximise the skills and experience existing within their schools to provide the right support structure for trainees. We combine support from university tutors, school mentors and Leadership Development Officers (LDOs) to ensure you get the best from your trainee. SCHOOLS TUTORS MENTORS LDOs Tutors All Teach First trainees work with one of our university training partners towards a PGCE and QTS during the first year. Tutors provide intensive support during the first half term to ensure trainees are progressing as expected, as well as continued support throughout the year to help them develop as effective classroom practitioners. Mentors All our school partners use their own skills and expertise to help develop their trainees. Our partner schools allocate a mentor to assist with their trainee s development as a teacher. Teach First offers all mentors bespoke training to assist them in supporting trainees, and to contribute to their own professional development. Leadership Development Officers (LDOs) LDOs are Teach First employees who play a unique role in the trainees development. They are all qualified teachers, and often Teach First ambassadors (alumni), providing invaluable experience of both the two year programme and the school context. They support and challenge trainees during the two years to enable them to become the most effective and inspirational teachers.
More reasons to be a Teach First partner Share your expertise Speak at one of our events, meet our network, and enable other teachers to use your experience to help them make a difference in school. Share best practice Work in partnership with us to conduct research into what makes the most effective teachers and use the results to help your school improve further. Come together with other schools in your area to provide feedback about your experience working with us, share best practice, and take ownership of your Teach First teacher s training. Access to a national community Recruit teachers with between two and nine years experience. Our ambassador community (alumni) has already completed the Leadership Development Programme and is dedicated to making a difference in the classroom in the long term. Advertise vacancies free amongst this community for classroom teachers as well as middle and senior leadership positions. To find out more about the benefits of becoming a Teach First partner visit and contact your regional team.
Frequently asked questions Are trainees employed by their school? Yes they are full time employees and are paid by their school. They are paid as unqualified teachers in their first year and NQTs in the second year. How does the Teach First recruitment and selection process work? Teach First works across the UK to find the right graduates with a minimum 2:1 degree qualification to meet schools needs. Successful applicants are chosen following a rigorous recruitment process which includes: An online application A day-long Assessment Centre involving a competency-based interview, a group exercise, a sample teaching lesson and self-evaluation Successful completion of reference checks A university validated Subject Knowledge Audit Pre Summer Institute work (including a school orientation experience) designed to prepare trainees for the programme Applicants must demonstrate a high proficiency in eight core competencies: Interaction Humility, Respect and Empathy Leadership Planning and Organising Problem Solving Resilience Self Evaluation Knowledge of Teach First and their academic subject Taking into account their subject, skills and personal strengths, and your needs, we carefully select the right trainee for your school. How much does it cost to partner with Teach First? Contact one of our teams for full details. Read more at We are working with primary schools across England.
