The organisation of an academic co-supervisor of a studentship An organisation that financially supports the project through the main funder (in the RCUK Grant system "Joint Funder" is another Research Council and "Co-Funder" is an external funder). In GtR they are both shown as "Co-funder" for compatibility with other funding organisations. An organisation receiving project funding which is accountable for ensuring that the planned outcomes for the project are achieved and that the funds are spent in accordance with the terms and conditions of the funder. The sub-unit of the Lead Research with responsibility for management of the project. Will normally be a Department, but could be School or Faculty. An organisation which receives funding and is accountable for ensuring that the planned outcomes of the project are achieved and that the funds are spent in accordance with the terms and conditions of the funder (Innovate UK use only). A named cooperative activity between the Lead Research and another organisation within the framework of the research project. Dissemination and communication activities of the research project. This excludes publications, which are reported separately. Academic advances across and within disciplines including advances in understanding, methods, theory and application. Common types of intellectual property- including patents, copyright, industrial design rights, and trademarks. Influence of the research has influenced policy in any area of public administration and I public service delivery. Medical product or intervention the research has created and the area it pertains to. Detail if it is completed or still in progress. Other research outputs excluding publications, but including a range of Medical, Biological, Electronic, Physical and Creative outputs- including Research Datasets To provide details on new databases, datasets or models that were as a result of the awarded project. Information on software and technical products that has been developed and is already in the public domain. Any new businesses which resulted directly from the research project being reported Spinout upon. Funding received as a direct or indirect result of the current research project. Including Further Funding contributions by named Project Partners and Collaborators. Documentation or communication that is prepared and made available publicly as a Publication result of research that was carried out. Summary of key findings of the project in non-specialist terms. Key Findings An Investigator who assists the Principal Investigator in the management and Co-Investigator (COl) leadership of the research project. A senior staff member at a HEI who is responsible for a Training Grant- often at head Training Grant Holder (TGH) of department level. The investigator who takes responsibility for the intellectual leadership of a research Principal Investigator (PI) I grant (type of research project) and for the overall management of the research. The individual who takes responsibility for the intellectual leadership and management Project Manager (PM) of an intramural or applied research project. A post doctoral research assistant. Researcher Researcher Co-Investigator A post doctoral research assistant who merits appropriate recognition for making a significant contribution to the preparation of the proposal and the ensuing research. I (Not applicable for AHRC, ESRC or MRC). 5
6 Project Term Fellowship Grant Innovation Project Intramural Project GtR Data Dictionary GtR Definitions Definitions A type of project covering award made through a fellowship competition providing a contribution to the support of a named individual. It covers the cost of the time dedicated by the fellow to their personal research programme, and may or may not include research support costs Support and funding to help business develop new products and services. For the Innovate UK it includes all funding in specific priority areas through Collaborative R&D, Feasibility Studies, Fast-Track, Innovation Vouchers and SBRI programmes, as well as nonthemed 'always open' competitions such as Smart and KTP. It also includes funding A project category covering research contracts and internal transfers made to Research Council Centres, Units, Institutes and Facilities. Multi-Component Grant Research Grant Research Project Studentship Training Grant Transfer Grant Period of Study A grant which at the proposal stage names other grant proposals as part of a consortium. Multi-component grants are reviewed as one entity and have the same title. One Project is named as the 'lead', and the lead PI will coordinate reporting and data management A contribution to the costs of a stated research project which has been assessed as suitable for funding through the procedures established by the relevant Research Council A generic term including research grants, fellowship grants, training grants, studentships and intramural projects. A research project leading to the award of a higher degree, funded from one or more RC Training Grants, possibly supplemented by funding from business or charitable organisations A block grant to a Higher Education Institute to cover the cost of PhD and (previously) MSc studentships, including Doctoral Training Grants and Partnerships. A Project which is transferred to a new research organisation when the PI moves to that organisation. The unspent budget is transferred to the new project and the ProiectiD is suffixed with a /2. Subsequent moves may generate /3 or /4 suffixes. This is the period of time between the initial date a Student is registered at an academic institution to start a post graduate degree and the expected or actual submission of a thesis. 6
