This beautiful parkland course was designed by Arnold Palmer and hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup with all is attendant drama. The course covers an area of mature woodland to the west of Dublin City to which fourteen lakes have been added. Note: Golf cart venue TOM WATSON: Today play Portmarnock Golf Club consistently ranked as one of the top five courses in Ireland. Having hosted ten British Open Championships Royal Lytham is arguably the toughest driving course on the rota, boasting a number of well placed and deep fairway bunkers. It was here in 1926 that Bobby Jones won the Championship, his legendary shot to the 17th green commemorated by a plaque. TOM WATSON: Today play Royal Birkdale. A course which provides a formidable test of links golf with each hole running in valleys between towering sandhills. The Open was last played at Birkdale in 2008 when Padraig Harrington lifted the Claret Jug to complete back to back wins. Located in the town of Newcastle to the south of Belfast. Consistently ranked in the top 10 courses in the world, this is a true test of links golf set against the magnificent backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne. Host to the 2007 Walker Cup Match featuring a young local by the name of Rory McIlroy, and an all star USA lineup. TOM WATSON: Today play Royal Portrush. It holds the distinction of being the only course in Ireland to have hosted The Open Championship (The British Open). Royal Portrush has now been invited to again host The British Open, anticipated as 2019 after an almost 70 year absence. Old Head is set on a dramatic promontory, protruding over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean. Nine holes play along the cliff tops, and all eighteen holes provide stunning ocean views. GENE SARAZEN (B second 40 players): Today play Cork Golf Club, located on Little Island on the outskirts of the city. The Club was founded in 1888 but moved to its present location in the early 1920 s where it underwent a major upgrade overseen by the renowned architect Alister MacKenzie of Augusta National and Royal Melbourne fame. The club has played host to many national and international events over the years. TOM WATSON: Today play Fota Island Deerpark Course, located on a 780 acre island in Cork Harbour. Should such an unlikely situation occur all booked guests would be notified of the change and replacement venue at the earliest opportunity. The golf courses included in the Gene Sarazen and Tom Watson flights are fixed, and are not interchangeable. Caddies: Based on historical experiences, and indications provided, it is anticipated there will be a fairly full provision of caddies at the majority of venues. In the event however of any shortfall in caddies, this will be managed as equitably as possible at the absolute discretion of PerryGolf. No refunds will be provided in the event of any shortfall. About our FLIGHT NAMES, selected in honour of two great Open Champions GENE SARAZEN FLIGHT Gene Sarazen, a legend of the game affectionately known as The Squire was the first player to win all the current major championships during his career, which included the 1932 British Open Championship. Famously he double eagled the 15th of Augusta National enroute to winning the 1935 Masters. During the 1973 British Open, aged 71, he made a hole in one at Royal Troon s famous Postage Stamp, the shortest hole in Open Championship golf at 123 yards. TOM WATSON FLIGHT Tom Watson is as revered in the British Isles as he is in the US as an outstanding sportsman and gentleman. His five British Open Championships came in an unprecedented run between between 1975 and 1983, claiming the 1982 title at Royal Troon. Amidst his many achievements he will always be remembered for his 1977 Duel in the Sun at the Ailsa Course Turnberry with Jack Nicklaus, and of course almost again claiming the title at the same course in 2009 at 59 years of age.
