2 Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy Heart Your daily diet and lifestyle play an extremely important role in keeping your heart healthy. This is why the Katz Institute for Women s Health (KIWH) offers the Heart Healthy Living Program, an 8-week interactive program for women. During these group sessions, our registered dietitian provides evidenced-based nutrition and lifestyle guidelines for the prevention and treatment of heart disease. Program participants also receive weekly s that are tailored to their specific needs while supporting their goals for living a heart-healthy life. Is This Program for You? All women are at risk for heart disease. The good news is that most of the risk factors for heart disease are modifiable, or can be changed. This program will help you: n Lower cholesterol n Improve blood sugar n Meet weight goals n Improve blood pressure n Manage stress Join our program and gain the knowledge and support to live a heart-healthy lifestyle.
3 Heart Healthy Living Program The following sessions with our nutrition experts make up our 8-week program: Week 1: Week 2: Week 3: Week 4: Week 5: Week 6: Week 7: Week 8: Be Good to Your Heart: Understanding Heart Disease Individual appointment with registered dietitian A Closer Look at Diets for Heart Health: The Mediterranean Diet, DASH Diet and American Heart Association Guidelines Debunking the Myths: Sugar, Salt, Fat and Superfoods for Heart Health Let s Take a Walk: Exercise and Weight Building a Better Meal: Cooking and Meal Planning Strategies Special Occasions: Tips for Eating Out and Special Functions Staying Positive: Mindfulness, Managing Stress and Moving On
4 Maintaining Your Success At the end of the 8-week program, Heart Healthy Living continues with a 4-month lifestyle maintenance program that includes monthly support group sessions, heart health tips and an individual follow-up session with our dietitian. Additional nutrition topics will be presented as well as ongoing support for long-term success. Medical Nutrition Therapy In addition to Heart Healthy Living, KIWH also offers individualized medical nutrition therapy (MNT). Our dietitian will work with you to provide personalized diet instruction based on your current lifestyle and any health issues you may have.
