7 DOVE Doves are a caring group of people who take a relaxed approach to life, they take one day at a time and are good at stopping to smell the roses. The most important thing to Doves is friendliness and their best skills are in relationship building. Doves prefer to communicate 1 on 1 and face-to-face. If you want to persuade a Dove you need to assure them that everyone affected has been considered and since Doves aren t usually good decision makers you will probably need to work through the decision process with them. Doves take a very democratic attitude towards decisions which tens to take a longer time. In meetings, Doves prefer an informal team talk like atmosphere where everyone has the opportunity to share their thoughts. Doves will avoid complaining and confrontation because they dislike interpersonal conflict, generally Doves vote with their feet. Because Doves enjoy dealing with the public and making people feel good they are the best people to front an organisation. Since3 Doves make such an effort to be polite and courteous to everyone they do not like people who are blunt, direct and cold. OWL Owls are detail people, they like to have plenty of information, evidence and theory available in any area they explore. The most important thing to an owl is accuracy, so they are attracted to jobs where precision is required. The Owls best skills are in problem solving because of their ability to work through a situation logically and systematically without emotion, they are often able to identify the best course of action. Owls prefer to communicate in writing due to t heir desire to have everything exact and planned. To persuade an Owl you will need plenty of statistical evidence, proof and a clear logical presentation of your idea and then give the Owls plenty of time to evaluate your suggestions. In meetings, owls like a formal approach, to keep to the agenda, and to have everything recorded and documented, including who said what. This ensures that a reliable record of the meeting is available for future reference. Owls always complain in writing, and they usually have copies of relevant documents attached. Organisations should always respond in the same way to an Owl.
8 Owls like to work in an environment where they are uninterrupted they prefer to be left alone and may be seen as antisocial within their organisation. Owls do not like people who are dreamers and spontaneous, they become frustrated with people who talk excessively and show too much emotion. PEACOCK Peacocks are an energetic group of people who like to be where the action is, they are great at dreaming up ideas and getting others excited about their visions. The most important thing to a Peacock is enthusiasm and their best skills are in creativity, confidence and presentation. Peacocks prefer to communicate to an audience, they like to be the centre of attention. To persuade a Peacock you will need to show plenty of enthusiasm for your idea, show how it will benefit the Peacocks life and present your ideal with flair. In meetings Peacocks will complain with a scene, they will use exaggeration and their theatrical skills to create a decent performance. Peacocks like working in a high energy, dynamic and creative environment with plenty of flexibility and autonomy. Peacocks do not like people who are shy, quiet, calm and disciplined, these people are interpreted as being boring by Peacocks. EAGLE Eagles are people who like action, they want results in a short period of time. The most important thing to an Eagle is efficiency and their lack of people skills can make them unpopular leaders. Eagles excel in a crisis situation because they are fast decision makers and they will take control of a situation. Eagles prefer speedy forms of communication because they are so busy, they are most likely to use , phone and fax as their common communication mediums. To persuade Eagles you will need to have a brief hard hitting presentation that is packed with benefits that will bring about a significant impact in a short period of time.
9 In meetings Eagles are usually in control, if they aren t they will take over if the appointed leader is ineffective. Eagles will take their complaints straight to management, they are hard and non negotiable it s usually their way or no way. Eagles do not like time wasting or unnecessary small talk, if they aren t interested then they tune out. Eagles are frustrated by people who have no goals and no direction in life. Eagles are fiercely competitive. BIRD COMBINATIONS DOVE/DOVE: Succeed by perseverance, originality, and desire to do whatever is needed or wanted. Put their best efforts into their work. Quietly forceful, conscientious concerned for others. Respected for their firm principles. Like to be honoured and followed for their clear convictions as to how best to serve the common good. DOVE/OWL: Outgoing, easy-going, accepting, friendly, enjoy everything and make things more fun for others by their enjoyment. Know what s going on and join in eagerly. Find remembering facts easier than mastering theories. Are best in situations that need sound common sense and practical ability with people as well as things. DOVE/PEACOCK: Full of enthusiasm and loyalties, but seldom talk of these until they know you well. Care about learning, ideas, language, and independent projects of their own. Tend to undertake too much, then somehow get it done. They can be very independent and stubborn when something they believe is being threatened. DOVE/EAGLE: Responsive and responsible. Generally feel real concern for what others think or want, and try to handle things with due regard for other person s feelings. They often display an image of detachment, but are usually preoccupied with their own thoughts.
10 OWL/OWL: Serious, quiet, earn success by concentration and thoroughness. Practical, orderly, matter-offact, logical, realistic, and dependable. See to it that everything is well organised. Take responsibility. Make up their own minds as to what should be accomplished and work towards it steadily, regardless of protests or distractions. OWL/DOVE: Retiring, quiet, friendly, sensitive, and modest about their abilities. Shun disagreements and do not force their opinion or values on others. Usually do not care to lead but are often loyal followers. Often relaxed about getting things done because they enjoy the present moment and do not want to spoil it by undue haste or exertion. OWL/PEACOCK: Quiet, friendly, responsible, and conscientious. Work devotedly to meet their obligations. Lend stability to any project or group. Thorough and painstakingly accurate. Can be patient with necessary details. Loyal, considerate, perceptive, concerned with how people feel. They have high personal ambitions. PEACOCK/PEACOCK: Warmly enthusiastic, high-spirited, ingenious, imaginative. Able to do almost anything that interests them. Quick with a solution for any difficult situation and ready to help anyone with a problem. Often rely on their ability to improvise instead of preparing in advance. Can usually find compelling reasons for whatever they want. PEACOCK/DOVE: Warm-hearted, talkative, popular, conscientious, born co-operators, active committee members. Need harmony and may be good at creating it. Always doing something nice for someone. Work best with encouragement and praise. Main interest is in things that directly and visibly affect people s lives.
11 PEACOCK/OWL: Good at on-the-spot problem solving. Do not worry, enjoy whatever comes along. Adaptable, tolerant but dislike long explanations. Are best with real things that can be worked, handled, taken apart, or up together. They have good persuasive skills with logic and tact, they often achieve results through other people. PEACOCK/EAGLE: Quick, ingenious, good at many things. Stimulating company, alert and outspoken. May argue for fun on either side of a question. Resourceful in solving new and challenging problems, but may neglect routine assignments. Apt to turn to one new interest after another. Skilful in finding logical reasons for what they want. EAGLE/EAGLE: Practical, realistic, matter-of-fact, with a natural head for business or machines. Not interested in subjects they see no use for, but can apply themselves when necessary. Like to organise and run activities. Make good administrators, especially if they remember to consider other s feelings and points of view. EAGLE/DOVE: Quiet and reserved. Especially enjoy theoretical or scientific pursuits. Like solving problems with logic and analysis. Usually interested mainly in ideas, with little liking for parties or small talk. Tend to have sharply defined interests. Need careers where some strong interest can be used and be useful. EAGLE/OWL: Cool onlookers, quiet, reserved, observing and analysing life with detached curiosity and unexpected flashes of original humour. Usually interested in cause and effect, how and why mechanical things work, and in organising facts using logical principles. EAGLE/PEACOCK: Frank, decisive, leaders in activities. Usually good in anything that requires reasoning and intelligent talk, such as public speaking. Are usually well-informed and enjoy adding to their fund of knowledge. May sometimes appear more positive and confident than their experience in an area warrants.
