1 IOERC2011 Preconference activities The following activities will be offered prior to the IOERC2011 Conference in Denmark. To attend these activities, you must also register for the IOERC2011 Conference. Pre-registration is required for the activities listed below. There will be no on-site registration. Thank you. Friday Sunday, July 1-3, Friday 9.00 am Sunday pm Location DGI Karpenhøj, Dragsmurvej 12, 8420 Knebel, Denmark, phone: (Next-door neighbor to Fuglsøcentret - distance 250 meters). Requirements Anybody at any level can participate in the preconference activities. and board There are two options for accommodation: 1. sleeping in the open, i.e. in shelters or lavvu at DGI Karpenhøj (bring sleeping bag and sleeping mat or rent it at DGI Karpenhøj) 2. indoor at Fuglsøcentret Boarding included breakfast before activities, lunch in the open and dinner around the fire at DGI Karpenhøj. Cancellation Each activity requires a minimum of four participants. An alternative activity program will be offered in case of cancellation, with consideration to the original booking and activity wishes. 2 DGI Karpenhøj, Fuglsøcentret and the National Park Mols Bjerge DGI Karpenhøj is both a local, regional and national center for nature and outdoor activities, primarily financed by DGI (Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations). DGI Karpenhøj is next-door neighbor to Fuglsøcentret, where the IOERC2011 is held. For more information: and DGI Karpenhøj and Fuglsøcentret are located in the National Park Mols Bjerge. A Danish National Park contains some of the must unique and distinctive nature in Denmark. The National Park Mols Bjerge was official open in august Mols Bjerge was pointed out to be a National Park because of the unique landscape and geology, which was created by the last Ice Age, and because of its rich and manifold nature. For more information: The activities There are four different kinds of preconference activities three activities with guide but also an opportunity to experience the National Park, the nature and landscape on your own. All the guide-activities will be based on guidance in friluftsliv (outdoor education), where some of the keywords will be the good experience in the nature, promoting and stories about the culture and the nature in the area of Mols and social being together combined with physical activity whether it s kayaking, cycling or walking. The activity leaders will take you around in the area, and guide you through the activities.

3 Activity 1: Three-days sea kayaking in National Park Mols Bjerge Friday Sunday, July 1-3, Friday 9.00 am Sunday pm Anybody at any level can participate. Sea kayaks, life vest and paddles are available. Day 1: Welcome, presentation, watergames, skills, rescue and safety on the water. Based on a playful approach to sea kayak skills, this day will offer paddlers and instructors the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience. For the newcomers there will be lots of time and space for a joyful introduction to sea kayak safety and rescue. Day 2: One day trip in sheltered waters around Mols National Park. The day will offer a nice view to the hilly, moraine-formed landscape and to ancient historical and cultural settings. Day 3: Hopefully the weather will permit a more committing day trip around peninsula Helgenæs (22 km). The trip will be a good opportunity to enjoy a beautiful stretch of the Danish coastline from the sea side. 4 Activity 2: Two-days guided tours in National Park Mols Bjerge Saturday Sunday, July 2-3, Saturday 9.00 pm Sunday pm Day 1: Welcome, presentation, one day walk in Mols Bjerge (Mols Hill) (15 km) Day 2: Mountain bike tour in National Park Mols Bjerge (25 km) Both days, a very experienced guide will show you the beautiful and varied Mols Hill landscapes very rich in gorgeous views, dramatic hills, slopes and kettle holes resulting from late Ice Age processes yrs ago. We also visit prehistoric (burial mounds and megalith graves) and historic cultural sites which along with present biodiversity tells the story of landscape, plants and animals and people striving to survive on the poor sandy hilly soils, left by Ice Age glaciers. Hiking and biking skills are moderate. Anybody at any level can participate. Mountain bikes and bike helmets are available. 5 Activity 3: Three-days with nature and cultural experiences in National Park Mols Bjerge Friday Sunday, July 1-3, Friday 9.00 pm Sunday pm Anybody at any level can participate. Sea kayaks, life vest, paddles, Mountain bikes and bike helmets available. Day 1: Welcome, presentation and one day walk in Mols Bjerge. Day 2: One day trip on Mountain Bike in National Park Mols Bjerge. Day 3: One day trip in sea kayaks. All three days, experienced guides will show you the beautiful and varied Mols Hill landscapes, whether it s kayaking, cycling or walking. 6 Activity 4: Experience the National Park Mols Bjerge on your own one, two or three days Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday, July 1-3, Anybody at any level can participate. Sea kayaks, life vest, paddles, Mountain bikes and bike helmets available. But for using kayaks it s important that you have experience with both safety and rescue on the water (BCU two-star alias EPP 2 required). It s important that you don t paddle alone, but at least two persons together. The programme you can prepare as you like alone or with colleges. The instructors at DGI Karpenhøj will help you where to go in the National Park, draw maps and so on. You can either walk, paddle or bike, one, two or three days. It s all up to you.
