1 New Delhi is awash in good food and foodies in Delhi take pride in it. From the kitchens of upscale hotel restaurants in South Delhi to the famed aloo chaat vendor in Connaught Place, an adventurous eater on any budget can find myriad ways to explore different kinds of cuisine with relative ease on a cart or a fine dining lounge. Starting from all regions of India to Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Lebanese and Japanese all kinds of food are found here. But what exactly is Delhi Food? It s within the walled, dilapidated confines of Old Delhi the congested maze of narrow alleys where rickshaw pullers, mosque goers, shoppers, beggars and vendors of every imaginable thing collide daily where you can actually find the real taste of Delhi Food. All the traditional foods are available here starting from piste ki lauz and badaam ki lauz at Ghantewala and Kunwar Sain to habshi halwa at Ballimaran; from rabri and khurchan at Parathewali Gali to jalebi at the corner of Dariba and Chandni Chowk and Sultan ke kulle at Nai Sarak. At Jama Masjid there are number of stalls selling foodstuff, both cooked and raw. You can eat kababs, biryani, kheer, kulfi, nankhatais and biscuits. Or you can go to Karim s or Jawahar Restaurant for a proper meal of korma, parsindas, bheja and a variety of rotis and naans. With this menu we have made a small endeavour to bring under one umbrella some of the most delectable dishes of Old Delhi.

2 A Special feast would consist of a total 35 kinds of foods for each person Shuruaat Jal-jeera (Sweet/sour) At any Indian feast, Jal-jeera is a favourite welcome drink, and a natural choice after meals Kababs Five kinds known as Gazak Sookha Masala Murgh Chicken marinated in dry masala and fried Chaar Magaz ka Murgh Chicken cooked with seeds of marsh melon, watermelon, pumpkin and cucumber Sookhe Masale ki Machhi Marinated fish, golden fried and served with lime wedges Bhoore Parsinde Boneless mutton chunks from leg piece, beaten flat and cooked dry in masala Masala Chops Mutton champs marinated in dry masala, baked and served with sprinkled dry powder

3 Sabji Ghia ke Kofte Stuffed dumplings of grated bottle gourd cooked in a spicy thick onion-tomato based gravy Baingan ka Bharta The Aubergine with thick aroma of charcoal with rooty vegetables in tandem Sookhi Urad ki Dal Dry black beans with desi ghee and cumin Lage Lipte Aloo Potatoes with a very thick almost dry sauce of curry leaves, mustard seeds, tomato sauce and chilies Bharva Karela Our own Karela changes in the company of coriander, mango powder and chilli Salan Dahi aur Dhuyen ka Gosht Charcoal and onion rings and voila here you have an aroma to make the lamb taste so good Dal Gosht Mutton cooked with lentils for that amazing combination of taste and energy Chicken Korma Pieces of boneless chicken cooked with almond sauce and spices and garnished with roasted almonds. Murgh Musallam Whole chicken cooked on slow fire to be succulent and worth waiting Fish Curry Fish fillets marinated in yogurt, nuts and spices, and cooked in a rich masaledaar gravy

6 Ghantewala Halwai The Ghantewala Halwai in Chandni Chowk in Delhi, established in 1790 is one of the oldest halwais (traditional sweet shop) in India. It was founded by Lala Sukh Lal Jain who had arrived in the walled city of Delhi from Amber, India, a few years after Sindhia restored Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II (r ). The shop is now run by his descendants. It has catered to Mughal Emperors, Presidents and Prime Ministers of India, from Nehru to his grandson Rajiv Gandhi.
