1 Display Nvidia active 3D signal in passive 3D system Quick operation summary Applicable GeoBox models: G-104, G-303, G-501, G-502 System connection: 1. HDMI 1.4a can only support up to active 3D signal. 2. If user wants to display 3D signal, DisplayPort connection is recommended. If DualLink DVI connection is required, user needs to open DualLink DVI port and update DualLink EDID to accept 1080p/120Hz input. Please see page Many PC has multiple outputs. Please connect with the right port that output from display card to get better performance. Most mother board embedded card can only support up to 720p/XGA 120Hz. GeoBox setting: 1. Select the right input source DualLink DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI. 2. Set output resolution as the same native resolution of the projector. 3. Set 3D [Input Format] at [Automatic] for signal embedded with 3D INFO. If user sees top-bottom or side by side image from the PC, then please select the right [Input Forma] based on the output from PC format. 4. Select correct [Output Format] for R/L output channel. Don t enable 120Hz output. 5. Make sure correct passive 3D setting, filter, glasses and screen are ready for passive 3D display. PC hardware and software installation using Nvidia display card 1. Nvidia display card with [3D Vision] support is required for high performance active 3D display. 2. Insert Nvidia IR emitter to the PC and make sure the green light on emitter is on. If no IR emitter, Nvidia card will not send out 120 Hz 3D signal. 3. Connect with DualLink DVI cable between PC Nvidia card and GeoBox. 4. Update new Nvidia display card software driver if necessary. 5. Install Nvidia 3D Vision Video Player with version or above. Stereoscopic Player] software also can be used for the playback of video content. 6. Both Nvidia 3D Vision Video Player and Stereoscopic Player may not support some video format. In this case, to install Video Codec is required. 7. GeoBox can decode any frame sequential active 3D signal from Nvidia or AMD HD3D display card. Even mother board embedded display can also output frame sequential active 3D signal but only with lower resolution or only 60Hz refresh rate. PC settings: 1. Nvidia 3D Vision IR emitter is required in GeForce 3D Vision display card. 1

2 2. EDID Override: User needs to do EDID override setting to let Nvidia card output the right 3D signal. This EDID will determine the output resolution from Nvidia display card no matter which output resolution is set in PC Display Panel. After update.inf file in display driver, user needs to re-boot PC. 3. User needs to set the right display timing (same as projector native resolution refresh rate), aspect ratio and 3D setting in both Display Resolution setting menu and also in Nvidia Display Control Panel. 4. If not full screen is found, there are three possibilities: a. PC Nvidia card output doesn t set to full screen. b. GeoBox aspect ratio is not set to full screen. c. The projector is not set to the right aspect ratio. 5. User can press [Info] shortcut key in GeoBox remote controller and check the input and output timing modes. No matter what kind of output resolution is set in Nvidia card, user will see the [Input Mode] remain the same as the EDID override setting (should and the [Output Mode] is set by GeoBox (should Other helpful tips 1. The major 3D format that GeoBox can support from active 3D is Frame Sequential. Once this 3D format is detected, no matter it is 60Hz, 100Hz or 120Hz, GeoBox will decode it into R/L outputs. Through the passive 3D system, users will see stable 3D effect without flicker. 2. When playing 3D video from PC, the sequence of R/L image may be swapped. User can swap R/L outputs from GeoBox by [R/L Swap] shortcut key on the remote controller. 3. Nvidia IR emitter may interfere with other IR remote control devices. 4. If user can t see 3D effect, one of the reasons is that 3D view in the Player is not activated (as showed below). Click the icon to active 3D view. Please also check page 11 to see other causes if necessary.. 5. Full screen display is required to see the right 3D effect. Double click the image or Press [ATL+ENTER] simultaneously to active full screen display while playing active 3D content. 6. It is also possible to see top-bottom or side by side image on the screen. User needs to re-select the [Input Format] under [3D Properties] menu in GeoBox. 7. There are some shortcut keys on GeoBox remote controller, please check page 10 to see more details. 2

3 Introduction This document is to describe the applications of GeoBox in active 3D display. Due to the limitation and uncomfortable in active (shutter) 3D system, more and more customers are requesting to have low cost devices to support active 3D signal displayed in passive 3D system to get stable and comfortable image. The following GeoBox models can support frame sequential active 3D formats: G-104, G-303, G-501 & G-502. System connection 1. HDMI 1.4a can only support active 3D up to 2. If user wants to display 3D signal, DisplayPort connection is recommended. If DualLink DVI connection is required. Please get into factory setting mode to enable DualLink DVI mode and set the right EDID and use DualLink DVI cable to connect PC and GeoBox. (Please contact with VNS to get mode details in factory settings mode) 3. Many PC has multiple output ports. Please connect with the right port that output from independent display card to get the best performance. 4. Make sure correct passive 3D setting, filter, glasses and screen are ready for passive 3D display. Factory setting mode to enable DualLink DVI input port User can input high resolution input signal through DisplayPort and DualLink DVI input port. Default DVI-I input port is in full HD resolution to support HDMI 1.4 3D signal and audio input. If user needs to use DVI port as DualLink DVI port, it is necessary to enable DualLink DVI input port through Factory Setting OSD menu. In this case, DVI input port can still support DVI-D, VGA & HDMI input signals but has no 3D and audio function. Below are the procedures for the factory settings to enable DualLink DVI mode 3

4 1. Activate Factory Setting Menu: 1. Dis-connect all input signal. 2. Press [Menu] + [Right] keys on front panel and power on GeoBox. 3. After boot up, user can active OSD menu by press [Menu] key and see [F] text at the top left corner. Navigate OSD menu direction key, user can select red [F] text at top left corner, then press ENTER to active Factory Setting mode. 2. Enable Factory setting mode 1. User will see complete factory setting mode menu as showed in left. 2. To select [EDID DualLink] item and press [Enter] key to select it. 3. To use Direction key to turn [ON] DualLink EDID. 4. To press [Enter] key again to confirm the selection. Then [EDID DualLink] will show [ON] in the menu 5. The next step is to store this setting into EEPROM by selecting [EDID Init] item, then use Direction key and [Enter] keys to store the setting into EEPROM. 6. User can turn off GeoBox by pressing Power key, and turn it ON as normal process. 7. Then the whole process is finished. 4

5 GeoBox setting 1. Select the right input source DualLink DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI. 2. Set output resolution at the same native resolution of the projector. 3. Set 3D [Input Format] at [Automatic]. If user sees top-bottom or side by side image from the PC, then please select [Input Forma] based on the output from PC format. 4. Select correct [Output Format] for R/L output channel. Don t enable 120Hz output. 5. Press ([R/L Identify] key to verify the right setting and connection in passive 3D system. PC hardware and software installation using Nvidia display card 1. Nvidia 3D Vision IR Emitter If Nvidia GeForce card is used for 3D Vision display, 3D Vision IR Emitter is required. Otherwise, GeForce card may not work in 3D mode properly no matter user uses 3D Vision Player or Stereoscopic Player. The emitter should be connected through USB connector and see GREEN LED light on the emitter. 2. EDID Override User needs to do EDID override setting to let Nvidia card output the right 3D signal. User can navigate [3D Vision EDID override] in Google and capture an EDID.INF file and update to display driver. If user wants to display full HD 3D system, please select an EDID supporting For 720P or XGA projectors, user 5

6 can select an EDID supporting 720P or resolution to reduce CPU/GPU loading. This EDID will determine the output resolution from Nvidia display card no matter which output resolution is set in PC Display Panel. After update.inf file in display driver, user needs to re-boot PC. Activate Display Panel by click RH key in the mouse Select Resolution setting and access Advanced setting Select Monitor and update driver Update EDID override.inf file 3. Display Resolution settings User needs to set the right display timing. The output resolution of Nvidia card should be set at the same native resolution of the projector and [Refresh Rate] at 120Hz to get the best 3D quality. If the image is not full screen, then to do further aspect ratio check is required in PC, GeoBox and projector. Activate Display Panel by click RH key in the mouse. Select Resolution setting and set desired resolution 6

7 Go to Advanced Setting to select Refresh or select from the supporting resolution list. 4. Nvidia Display Control Panel setting This is to do further display card setting, 3D display, aspect ratio setting and color management. Wrong setting will cause abnormal display or no 3D effect. Below are some key points. User can also review every item to optimize the video quality while it is needed. Active Nvidia Control Panel. In 3D Management menu, select Stereoscopic Player as the play software. PhysX setting: select Nvidia card as the main 3D processor if Nvidia card is used and check if the monitor is connected with Display card as showed above. Then active 3D display and set 3D depth. User can also calibrate Game cursor position under this menu. 7

8 To set the right display resolution (same as projector native resolution) and refresh rate at 120Hz. Then select Full Screen display to avoid image shrunk. User can also check the compatibility of the game. At the end, user can review all the settings 5. Aspect Ratio issue: If not full screen is found, there are three possibilities: a. Wrong resolution or not set to full screen in PC Nvidia card. b. GeoBox aspect ratio is not set to full screen under [Image Property] menu. c. The projector is not set to the right aspect ratio. 6. Input and output information checking User can press [Info] shortcut key in GeoBox remote controller and check if the input and output timing are correct or not. No matter what kind of output resolution is set in Nvidia card, user will see the input mode remain the same as the EDID override setting (should and the output timing mode is the setting of GeoBox output (should 7. Nvidia 3D Vision Video Player Viewer can use either Nvidia 3D Vision Video Player or Stereoscopic Player to playback the video content to provide frame sequential active 3D 100/120Hz output. 3D Vision Video Player is a simplified Stereoscopic Player and specific to work with NVidia GeForce card. a. Viewer can set the input format based on the content. It includes side by side, top-bottom or individual R/L files when a new video is first time to play, it will pop up a menu for the selection. b. Please make sure 3D View icon under display window should be activated. Otherwise no 3D effect. c. Most of the settings have been completed in Nvidia Display Control Panel. There are not too many settings except video input format selection, aspect ratio, 3D properties and 2D/3D View settings. 8

9 d. When open Video Player, a display window will be popped up. Draw the video file into this window, then it will automatically display. If the video can t be displayed, please check if viewer has installed video Codec in the PC. Some video files need video codec. e. Viewer may not see 3D effect before full screen is displayed. Please click twice in the window or press ATL + ENTER key on PC keyboard to open full screen window. f. If viewer still sees top-bottom or side by side video, please select the right [Input Format] in GeoBox through Remote control shortcuts (please see Remote Controller section). g. Viewer may see R/L swapped 3D image, please use Remote control R/L Swap shortcut to correct it. It is possible for viewer to see R/L swapped image while a new movie is played. Click Nvidia 3D Vision Video Player to open Video Player. To check if 3D View icon is activated or not. Under File menu, viewer can set input format, aspect ratio, 3D effect and check supporting file formats. 8. Stereoscopic Player: It is similar to Nvidia 3D Vision Video Player but can work with other display card. It is not free software and license is required. The trial version can only play the video for 5 minutes each time. It will automatically stop playing beyond this time limit. The display window and menu are similar to 3D Visio Video Player. 9

10 Click Stereoscopic Player icon to open display window. Display Window same as 3D Vision Video Player The menu under File is similar to 3D Vision Video Player with some more menu items. Click Setting to do further settings. Select Nvidia 3D Vision under Viewing Method and Stereo Image menu. It may also work in some display card to select Software Pageflipping This is to show all video codecs that Stereoscopic Player can support. It doesn t mean all video file with the list formats can be displayed normally. User may still need to install additional video codec to play video. 10

11 To draw video file into display window and Stereoscopic Player will automatically play the content. Viewer may see top-bottom video after playing video. Viewer needs to double click display window or press ALT + ENTER keys to activate full screen display to get normal 3D display. If viewer still sees top-bottom or side by side video in full screen display, viewer needs to select the right [Input Format] under [3D Properties] menu in GeoBox. Some shortcuts in remote control are available to select the right input format. If no 3D effect in full screen display, please check 3D View icon and make sure it is activated. 13 Helpful tips 1. The major 3D format that GeoBox can support from active 3D is Frame Sequential. Once this 3D format is detected, no matter it is 60Hz, 100Hz or 120Hz, GeoBox will decode it into two outputs for R/L eyes. Through the projectors and filter/glasses system, users will see stable 3D without flicker. 2. When playing 3D video from PC, the sequence of R/L image may be changed. When user sees inverse 3D image, then user needs to swap R/L outputs by the remote controller [R/L Swap] shortcut key. 3. Nvidia IR emitter may interfere with GeoBox remote controller. If it happens, take proper measures. 4. If viewer can t see 3D effect, please check below items: a. Correct 3D content? b. Does display card support 3D Vision? c. Full screen display? Double click the image or Press [ATL+ENTER] to active full screen display d. Correct connection with the right DualLink DVI cable? e. Is 3D view icon in Display Window is activated? f. Is Nvidia IR emitter connected to PC with green LED light on? g. Check input/output modes by press [Info] shortcut in remote control. The input mode should and output mode should h. Correct passive 3D setting? Please press [L/R Identify] shortcut key to check R/L texts. RH eye shall only see R and LH eye only sees L. If not the case, please check passive 3D settings. i. Inverse R/L frame in 3D view? Please press [R/L Swap] key in remote control to reserve it. 5. It is also possible to see top-bottom or side by side image on the screen. User needs to re-select the [Input Format] under [3D Properties] menu in GeoBox.
