2 Getting Started ALL first-time applicants start here! Review links, including scholarship info and checklist. ELC-evaluated students access their personalized applications here. Make time to take the virtual tour. On return visits, log in under Retrieve Your Application.

3 Setting Up User Name/Password/ELC User Name: Up to 20 letters and/or numbers Lost user name start over! Password: Must be 6-8 letters AND numbers Hint: Create one that s memorable but not easy for others to guess! required: Make sure filters allow UC mail through! ELC-evaluated students: Go to separate log-in page to enter assigned user name, PIN.

12 Step 3: Family Data Although many questions in the Family Data section are voluntary, EOP applicants and students requesting fee waivers will need to answer sections indicated by blue text.

14 Step 4: Academic History (part 1 of 4) You MUST list EVERY school you ve attended since 9th grade. Don t forget to list community colleges even if you only took one class! You can select more than one term type, if necessary.

20 Step 4: Academic History (part 3 of 4) Self-enter courses if they are UCapproved but don t appear in the pick list. Self-enter community college courses. Don t forget to list 7th/8th-grade courses in math and language other than English, if appropriate.

22 Step 5: Test Results Enter scores, test dates (taken and planned). Fall applicants must complete ALL required exams by December test date. Make sure scores are sent to UC campuses.

26 Step 7: The Personal Statement Personal Statement Instructions and Prompts Instructions: Respond to both prompts, using a maximum of 1,000 words total. Allocate the word count as desired. An applicant may wish to respond to one prompt at greater length; we suggest the shorter answer be no less than 250 words. Stay within the word limit as closely as possible. A little over 1,012 words, for example is fine. Prompt #1: Describe the world you come from for example, your family, community or school and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations. Prompt #2: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

27 Step 7: The Personal Statement (continued) In reading your application, we want to get to know you as well as we can. There s a limit to what grades and test scores can tell us so we ask you to write a personal statement. Your personal statement consisting of responses to two prompts is your chance to tell us who you are and what s important to you. Think of it as your opportunity to introduce yourself to the people reading your application. Be open, be honest, be real. What you tell us in your personal statement gives readers the context to better understand the rest of the information you ve provided in your application. A couple of tips: Read each prompt carefully and be sure to respond to all parts. Use, specific, concrete examples to support the points you want to make. Finally, relax. This is one of many pieces of information we consider in reviewing your application; an admission decision will not be based on your personal statement alone. 255 Compose essays in a word-processing program, then paste into application. 37 Summing Up Remember Most answers can be found in the virtual tour or the FAQs. Don t wait until the last minute to begin. Contact campuses if there are changes to your courses or contact information. Check your frequently. Don t hesitate to ask questions! Good luck to you all!
