2 TQC (Techficiency Quotient Certification) Registration Details Sally, Amy, Hanna TQC (Techficiency Quotient Certification) is open for registration from November 22, 2015 to December 27, Please enter this website: /tqcsga/ (Examination room: USC Code: ). Print the registration form after signup. The registration fee can be paid at two places: the Cashier Division -- located on the first floor of Building L at Shih Chien University from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; and the Office of Evening Division located on the first floor of Building A at Shih Chien University from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. 2

4 13 th English Camp for Elementary School Students Will, Ann, Sophia, Claire Students majoring in Applied Foreign Languages at Shih Chien University have been holding English camps for elementary school students every summer and winter vacation for many years. This winter vacation they will go to Fong-Tian elementary school in Miaoli County to hold an English camp from January 17 to January 20. Students who are interested in teaching English, getting along with children and willing to devote themselves on this camp may be good candidates! Don t hesitate to go to the office of Applied Foreign Languages and fill out the application forms before November 4. Those who are sophomores, juniors and seniors, and those who have teaching experience have the priority to be recruited. Most importantly, they need to attend the meeting on November 5 or they will lose their opportunity to join the camp. The meeting will be held at 12:15 at L505. Don t forget to attend the meeting! 5 First Lady s Dresses are Now Available on the Market Jason, Emma, Anna, Brandon Two dresses similar to those worn by first lady of Taiwan Chow Mei-ching on National Day were put on sale at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store in Taipei on October 11th, The two apparels were designed by 24- year-old Taiwanese fashion designer Wang Shao-yu who graduated from the Department of Fashion Design at Shih Chien University. They are now being displayed at an exhibition in the department store to showcase the best works of new designers. The dress identical to that worn by the first lady during the National Day ceremony a one-piece kneelength dress that seems to combine a purple blouse and a dark skirt with flowers on it is being sold for NT$88,888. A knee-length black cocktail dress with a mesh overlay the first lady wore at the National Day reception Saturday night is being sold for NT$13,800. Mr. Wang is now studying in Milan, Italy. He told CNA in a telephone interview that he felt honored that the first lady chose his design and said she was very friendly and approachable. 6 2015 Shih Chien University English Speech Contest Tim, Mark, Melody The Applied Foreign Languages Department of Shih Chien University is going to host a speech contest to encourage students to voice their opinions to the world. The contestants will be divided into three groups; current Shih Chien AFL students, current Shih Chien non AFL students, and Shih Chien exchange students. If you are one of the top three winners, you will win a scholarship and certificate of merits. There are three modifiable topics to choose from: 1. The pros and cons of. (Example: cyber friendships, working holidays, etc.) 2. How have changed you. (Example: travelling, frustration, etc.) 3. The true meaning of. (Example: friendship, success, etc.) Present your student ID card and NT.100 to the office of Applied Foreign Languages by Nov. 16 if you decide to accept the challenge! (Editor: Abigail) 6

7 45 Education Stations for Aboriginal Children in Taiwan Wendy, Maeson, Roe, Anna In deep, neglected and isolated mountain areas, Taiwan Catholic Mission Foundation has set up several education Stations. Dr. Michael J.K. Chen, the chairman of TCMF, who is also the president of Shih Chien University, has also set up 45 Educational Stations in Taiwan. Dr. Michael J.K. Chen said, TCMF was founded in After the disaster of the 921 earthquake, they started to help the children in remote areas, regardless of ethnic groups. Their main goal is to help the aboriginal children in Taiwan and the poor communities on education, motivating them to develop self- reliance and self- improvement. Currently, TCMF is running about 240 programs, including 45 stations in Taiwan and 6 overseas stations such as the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, Lux Mundi Demo Farm in the Philippines.
