1 JEFA TECH OUTDOOR WIFI EXTENDER INSTRUCTIONS Understanding How the JEFA TECH OUTDOOR WIFI EXTENDER Works The system consists of a PICOM2-HP n Outdoor WiFi Access Point that is preconfigured by JEFA Tech for ease of use and to provide maximum outdoor WiFi coverage. The PICOM2-HP is mounted outside your building on the roof or in a spot that faces the area where you need coverage. If it is not possible to mount it outdoors, the second best option is to put it in a window facing the area where coverage is needed. A mount is included which supports both outdoor and window mounting configurations. QUICK START The following is an overview of the setup and operation and can serve as a QUICK START guide. More detailed steps are contained later in this document. 1. Mount the PICOM2-HP unit outside on the roof or outside wall facing the area you would like to have coverage. If this is not possible, you may mount it in a window 2. Connect one end of the Black cable to the PICOM2-HP by removing the cover on the bottom of the PICOM2-HP unit. Replace the cover to keep bugs and moisture out. It is a tight fit. 3. Connect the other end of the Black cable to the port marked POE on the black POE Injector Box 4. Connect the Blue cable from the port labeled LAN on the black POE Injector Box to an available LAN port on your Internet Router 5. Plug the POE Injector Box into a standard 110V AC Power Outlet 6. Connect to the WiFi network named jefatech-ap. 7. You should now be able to get online PAGE 1

2 PROPER CONNECTIONS Review the following diagram to understand the proper way to connect the components 1. Connect one end of the Black cable to the PICOM2-HP by removing the cover on the bottom of the PICOM2-HP unit. Replace the cover to keep bugs and moisture out. It is a tight fit. 2. Connect the other end of the Black cable to the port marked POE on the black POE Injector Box 3. Connect the Blue cable from the port labeled LAN on the black POE Injector Box to an available LAN port on your Internet Router 4. Plug the POE Injector Box into a standard 110V AC Power Outlet 5. The two lights on the bottom of the PICOM2-HP should light up. The bottom light indicates power. The second from the bottom indicates the network connection to your router. That light may flicker to indicate traffic. The remaining lights indicate signal strength and will light up in various ways depending on if devices are using the WiFi or not. PAGE 2

3 ASSEMBLING THE MOUNT The included mount can be configured for either wall/roof mounting, or window mounting. The PICOM2-HP comes pre-attached to the mounting bracket. 1. Attach the mount arm into the back of the mount bracket by lining up the grooves and pushing upwards. The adjustment knob will be on the top. 2. Choose either the wall/roof mount foot or the suction cup for window mounting and attach it to the mount arm using the bolt and large nut provided. HINT: Look for the square recessed hole to accept the head of the bolt. This will keep the bolt from turning. 3. Mount the bracket to the wall or roof using the screws provided. To mount the suction cup to a window, clean the window first, place the suction cup against the window, and push down on the lever. HINT: It may be easier in some situations to attach the foot to the surface first, then connect the mount arm to the foot. 4. Adjust the mount so the antenna is upright and vertical and tighten all adjustment nuts. PAGE 3

4 CHANGING THE WIFI SETTINGS (WINDOWS OR MAC) The WiFi network (SSID) is set to jefatech-ap by default with no encryption enabled. To change the SSID and/or encryption password, do the following: WINDOWS OR MAC: 1. Connect to the WiFi network named jefatech-ap 2. You must have Java installed to use the Discovery Tool. If you do not have Java installed, visit to download and install Java. 3. Download the Free Discovery Tool from our website: 4. Double-click discovery.zip to open it and then double-click the discovery file. This will start the Discovery Tool. 5. Double-click the device with system name JEFATECH-AP and then click the Web UI button. 6. Log in with username admin and password admin 7. Click the Wireless tab 8. Change the SSID to the WiFi network name that you would like to broadcast. It can be anything you want. a. We do NOT recommend that you Hide the SSID. Modern WiFi scanning tools will be able to see the WiFi network even if you hide it, and hiding it just makes it a lot more difficult for you to connect. 9. If you would like to encrypt the connection (requiring a password for access), under Wireless Security change the Security to WPA2 and enter your password into the box labeled WPA Preshared Key. 10. At the bottom right, click Change 11. At the top right, click Apply 12. Close the web browser and the Discovery Tool 13. The unit will reboot and you will see it reappear in your WiFi network list under the new name IMPORTANT There are many tabs and options available in the PICOM2-HP configuration. PLEASE do not change any settings unless you know what you are doing. The only settings that should be changed are the ones mentioned above. Changing any other settings will not improve performance and will very likely cause you to have trouble connecting. DO NOT do a hard reset of the PICOM2-HP unless instructed by tech support. Doing so will put your PICOM2-HP in a default state that will require help from technical support to fix. PAGE 4

To change the SSID and/or encryption password, do the following: 1. Connect to the WiFi network named jefatech-ap 2. Install the free app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store named Fing. It allows you to scan for all of the devices on your network. 3. Open Fing and click the Refresh button (top right) 4. Look for a device on your network labeled Ubiquiti Networks and make note of its IP address 5. Open your web browser and type the IP address into the address bar and press Go 6. You may receive a warning that the server identity cannot be verified or the connection may be unsecure, choose Continue. 7. Log in with username admin and password admin 8. Go to the Wireless tab 9. Change the SSID to the WiFi network name that you would like to broadcast. It can be anything you want. a. We do NOT recommend that you Hide the SSID. 6 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS and TROUBLESHOOTING: I do not see a WiFi signal at all from the unit. Double-check to make sure all cable connections are secure and that power is applied. There is a power light on the POE power injector as well as a power light on the PICOM2-HP unit. I can connect to the WiFi signal, but I am unable to get online: Check that your Internet service is working. Try getting online when directly connected to your modem or router to make sure your Internet service is working. Is the blue network cable connected between the LAN port of the POE Injector and a LAN port on your router? Check to see if there is a light on your router indicating you have a good connection. I have purchased two (or more) of this system. Is there anything I need to do to keep them from conflicting with each other? More than one PICOM2-HP will work out of the box on your network without conflict. If you change the SSID, you can choose to make them all the same SSID, or you can make them different, that is up to you. If you choose to make them all the same SSID, the Encryption type and password must also match exactly or you will have problems connecting. When making settings changes, it is recommended to only have one unit powered up at a time. Configure that unit, power it down, and then move on to configuring the next unit. This will make it easier to know for sure which unit you are working with. I would like to change the admin password to log into the configuration interface. Where do I do this? 1. Find the IP address of the PICOM2-HP and connect to the PICOM2-HP web interface. (see procedure on pages 4 and 5) 2. Go to the System Tab, under System Accounts, click the key icon, type the current password (default is admin) and the new password. 3.
