1 Alder Hey Children s Charity Job Title: Reporting To: Corporate Fundraising Officer Head of Corporate & Major Giving Line Manager To: Salary: 20,000-25,000 Hours: 37.5 hours per week Job Purpose: Main Duties/Tasks The postholder will work closely with the Head of Corporate & Major Giving to ensure the efficient implementation of the Corporate & Major Giving Fundraising Strategy. The post holder will take responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective and efficient support procedures for the Corporate function. Principal Job Duties of Role Income Generation 1. Together with the Head of Corporate & Major Giving, the postholder will be expected to foster excellent working relationships with internal and external partners to support the successful achievement of the fundraising strategy. 2. Together with the Head of Corporate & Major Giving, help to develop a comprehensive strategic programme for partnering with corporate entities, both locally and nationally based. 3. Manage a portfolio of existing corporate partners, providing motivation and stewarding supporters to maximise the funds they raise. 4. Acquiring new Business 50% of the role will be acquiring new business inspiring new supporters to raise money. 5. Recruiting, organising and managing volunteers to carry out various functions within the charity. 6. Assist with the arrangements to ensure that all donors receive outstanding stewardship to establish long term commitment to the charity. 7. Assist the Head of Corporate & Major Giving to provide support to the Fundraising Committees through the preparation of information and reports. 8. Assist with the preparation of the required resources (leaflets, posters, exhibition boards etc.) and merchandise orders as required for use at corporate events and activities. 9. Undertake other duties which may be designated from time to time by the Senior Team to achieve the Charity s objectives, including representing the department on occasions, functions and events as required.

2 General 1. To work with the fundraising team to develop and achieve objectives and plans 2. To carry out and undertake duties other than those listed above but commensurate with this role, according to the needs of Alder Hey Charity. 3. To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post at all times in compliance with all of Alder Hey Charity s policies. 4. Cooperate in a professional manner with all organisational staff in maintaining good relations with external bodies in order to promote the organisation s image and gain increased support for its work. 5. Cooperate with organisational staff in maintaining amicable inter-personal relations 6. To attend relevant and appropriate meetings in agreement with line manager 7. This role requires regular evening and weekend working General: Undertake other duties which may be designated from time to time by the Director of Charities to achieve the Charity s objectives, including representing the department on occasions, functions and events as required. 3 PERSON SPECIFICATION Post : Corporate Fundraising Officer Communication Relationship Skills Knowledge Training & Experience Essential The post-holder will often be the Charity s first point of contact with donors and visitors to the Charity, and, as a result, will need to demonstrate sympathy and understanding to the circumstances of the people concerned whilst also respecting their confidentiality. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the principles of customer (supporter) care to ensure that long term relationships are developed with donors and supporters of the Charity. Excellent written and verbal skills are required as well as the ability to negotiate with confidence to influence a wide range of people both internally and externally. You are seen as credible and persuasive by senior decision makers in commercial environments and you are confident in pitch, presentation and subsequent negotiation situations. Experienced in a busy working environment and with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts both inside and outside the Charity and Trust. The ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across the Charity to successfully deliver the fundraising strategy. Experienced in dealing with people from all backgrounds and all ages. Education to degree level or equivalent. Demonstrable experience of working in a customer focused role. Demonstrable experience of implementing efficient administrative systems in a fast paced working environment. Up to date knowledge and working experience of computer software packages (word, excel, access database). Desirable Experience in a fundraising and/or sales environment. Experience of using a fundraising database. Understanding of philanthropy and the principles behind charitable giving. Knowledge of Charity Law, Institute of Fundraising

4 The post-holder will need to have an evidence based track record of dealing with the public in a professional or voluntary capacity. Codes of Fundraising Practice, HMRC tax efficient giving regulations. Analysis and Judgement Full driving licence required. They need to exercise a high degree of skill and judgement when dealing with donors or prospective donors, patients and relatives of patients. Demonstrate high standards of personal conduct. Respect for and ability to maintain confidentiality. Planning and Organisation Physical Skills for Patient/Client Care for Financial and Physical for Human for Information Act with honesty and integrity at all times. The post-holder will be responsible for assisting with the planning and organisation of major donor events including, corporate fundraising. The post-holder will be allocated specific duties and be responsible for project managing their successful delivery. The post-holder will need the ability to plan, prioritise and manage a number of projects simultaneously from start to finish, including meeting demanding time scales. Keyboard skills - thorough understanding of the Microsoft Office suite. Cash handling skills. The post-holder will come into contact with patients and their parents in relation to fundraising. The post-holder will assist with forming and fostering key relationships with donors and be responsible for ensuring that the donor continues their support for Alder Hey. The post-holder will be responsible for following processes established by the Charity Finance Manager to ensure the smooth processing of the Charity s income. Assisting with supervision of volunteers in the office and at offsite events. From time to time the post-holder will be the main liaison contact with external contractors at events. The post-holder will update records on the donor database and produce quarterly income reports. Ability to produce information reports

Will be responsible for undertaking research on prospective donors, including major businesses. The post-holder will possess the ability to organise and prioritise their own work load and is expected to use their own initiative and to act in consultation with the Head of Major Giving. There may be some elements of lifting and manual handling when taking deliveries of stock or gifts in kinds. Some fundraising events will require a degree of manual handling in relation to the specific function, venue, and display requirements. Dismantling of display stands and carrying of cash donations. The post-holder will come into contact with the general public and supporters on a daily basis who will often share the reasons for the donation or connection to Alder Hey. Some donors become distressed, certainly if taking about a deceased relative and a caring and sympathetic nature is required. The fundraising office is a very busy environment which can often mean that the post-holder will be interrupted when concentrating on analytical reports, undertaking research etc. and will be required to deal with another issue. An ability to quickly switch tasks and then subsequently refocus is essential. The nature of fundraising is to often expect the unexpected and the postholder will need the ability to think on their feet sometimes without support. Whilst onsite the post holder will be office based. External fundraising events can be challenging, ranging from being outdoors in bad weather, street collections with heavy buckets, social/pub environments and occasionally exposed to aggressive behaviour. Occasional evening and weekend working.
