1 Media release Zurich Airport, 9 July Traffic results SWISS carries more passengers in the first half of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) transported 7,778,125 passengers in the first six months of, a 0.6% increase on the 7,735,402 of the same period a year ago. The growth was achieved despite a 0.9% decline in total flights operated for the period, from 71,518 to 70,870. Of these, 61,761 flights (down 1.3%) were performed within Europe and 9,109 (up 2.1%) on intercontinental routes. SWISS offered 1.4% more systemwide capacity measured in available seat-kilometres or ASKs in the first half of than it had in the prior-year period. Total traffic volume measured in revenue passenger-kilometres or RPKs was up 0.9% year-on-year. Seat load factor slipped slightly as a result: the systemwide seat load factor of 81.3% for the first-half period was 0.4 percentage points down from the 81.7% of January-to-June. The airfreight business of Swiss WorldCargo reported a first-half cargo load factor (by volume) of 76.5%, a 3.1-percentage-point decline from the 79.6% of the prior-year period. Total cargo sales were down 1.7% in revenue tonne-kilometre terms. For the month of June SWISS carried 1,413,165 passengers in total, a slight 0.6% decline from the 1,422,392 of the prior-year period. Systemwide seat load factor also slipped 0.2 percentage points, from 85.9% to 85.7%. June seat load factor for European services was up two percentage points, while the monthly seat load factor for intercontinental services was down 1.4 percentage points. Swiss WorldCargo reported a June cargo load factor (by volume) of 75.1%, a 2.1-percentage-point decline (June : 77.2%). Total cargo sales were 4% down in revenue tonne-kilometre terms.
