Screening motion pictures started in 1926 at this place. Back then, this cinema was amongst the biggest and most impressive film theaters in Europe. After numerous renovations, the last reconstruction saw the emergence of the cinema with three halls and excellent screening and sound systems. All through the process, this stately cinema has managed to keep its main architectural and interior characteristics. (The ornamentation was executed by Sándor Krisztián, who is reputed to have worked on the sculptures of hotels Astoria and Bristol.) The halls got their names after outstanding pieces of the art of cinema (Metropolis, Amarcord, Körhinta). 6 Tabán Kinotéka Krisztina krt., Budapest, The only art cinema of Buda, Tabán was completely restaurated in the beginning of 2014, both of its two rooms have been installed with modern digital screening and sound system and at the same time, the classic cine-projector is also preserved. The Tabán Kinotec is really the memento of preserving the picture theatre s traditions but it s also a cinema of full value in the capital. The big room is for 76 people, the smaller one is for 28 people, the previous one was named after Kubric, and the latter was named after Fellini. The Tabán Kinotec became the favored place of the Buda residents mainly because of its family mood. The place is absolutely suitable for film clubs, kid programs and school events. The Tabán Kinotec s cafeteria (besides the usual cinema-food) offers the film lovers quality coffe, cakes and sandwiches. Moreover, the Odeon movie rental also takes place in Tabán, where you can choose from thousands of film classics and recent successes as well. The cinema was the very first picture theatre in Buda, founded by Pécsi Manó in the 1910s.
