2 Welcome to LaunchPad This guide will help you to learn how to use ClassLink LaunchPad! Designed exclusively for students just like you, LaunchPad will give you real time access to all your learning resources anytime and from anywhere. What to expect In this guide, you ll learn how to: Log-in Use the Virtual desktop to add apps and web resources Manage your files, cloud drive and personalize your learning space! 4 Logging-in Let s get started! Open the internet, LaunchPad will work on any device in any browser! Go to and enter the following: 1. Username 2. Password 3. School code (if required) 4. Click Sign in *You can also use Single Sign-On to connect with any Google Account. See page 13 to learn how 4 P a g e

5 Cloud Desktop Taskbar: The taskbar runs across the top of your screen. The icons you see will help you navigate through LaunchPad while organizing and customizing your experience. Start Menu: The start menu gives you instant access to recent documents, applications, favorites and the application library. This button is visible in the top left corner of the browser window. Search: Search for applications within the virtual desktop. Edit Mode: Here you can drag, drop, delete and create favorite apps. Add Apps & Web Resources: The add apps button allows users to create a new web resource on his or her virtual desktop. New Folder: Looking for a way to organize your desktop apps? Create folders! Drop similar app types in the same folder. Settings: Manage your user profile, desktop preferences, passwords, applications and SSO connections. Help Menu: Here we have incorporated walkthroughs, slideshows, quick reference guides and even video tutorials to help users become acquainted with LaunchPad. Switch View: Did you know LaunchPad has two views? The virtual desktop view and instructional view will have all your educational bases covered. Log-out: Yes, you guessed! Click here to log-out or change users. Always remember to log out after you are done using LaunchPad. This will keep all your stuff safe! 5 P a g e

6 Start Menu The start menu gives you instant access to recent documents, recent applications, favorites, the resource library, and profile settings. The start menu is located on the top left of the task bar. Recent Documents The recent documents link displays the last 10 recently opened documents. It displays the name and extension of the file, available icon, date the file was created and last modified, file size, and the location of the file (example: Home Drive>Science>Homework). The search box allows you to search recent documents. Recent Applications The recent applications link displays the last 10 recently opened applications. Recent applications listed can also be launched from the recent applications window. The search box allows you to search the recent applications. 6 P a g e

7 Favorites Here you list all your favorite applications. Favorites are managed by going into edit mode on the task bar. From there, you click the star shape in the upper right corner of your preferred apps. For additional information, check Task Bar. Resource Library Access hundreds of educational web resources and applications. Load more applications by clicking the load more button on the bottom of the list. Use the search box to search applications, use advanced search to filter the resource library by category, subject, or grade. Each application has a status bar in the lower right indicating if the application was added permanently by your system administrator or can be added by the end user. View details and additional functions by clicking the resource. Applications/resources can be added to your virtual desktop by clicking the Add Application button. Applications can also be removed from this window. Now found directly next to the start menu Add Apps with just one click My Apps My Apps are applications assigned to the user by system administrators or added by the end user. Clicking an application in the My Apps list will launch the application. To add App to your virtual desktop click add or create custom App s 7 P a g e

8 Edit Mode Edit mode also allows you to manage favorites and delete desktop apps. Click the Edit icon on the task bar to go into edit mode. The Edit Mode window will appear, but notice the apps now have a delete and favorite option. Click the X to delete the app from your virtual desktop. Click the faded star to mark the app as a favorite. Click again to unmark as favorite. You cannot remove applications that are added to your desktop by teachers or administrators. 8 P a g e

9 Cloud Desktop Folders Looking for a way to organize your desktop apps? Create folders! Drop similar app types in the same folder. 1. Click the New Folder icon on the taskbar. 2. Name the new folder ex. Google Apps, News Sites. Click the Check to save. Click X to close. 3. Click the check sign to save 4. Click the X to close. The new folder is now on your virtual desktop. Notice the number on the lower right corner. This is indicates the number of apps in the folder. Here is an example: 5. Open the new folder, drag desktop icons in the folder. Apps can also be dragged out of the folder and back to the desktop. 9 P a g e

10 Renaming a Folder 1. Want to rename your folder? Open the folder, click the edit Icon. 2. Edit the folder name by clicking the check mark when done. 3. Drag and drop the icons from the desktop into your new folder. 4. Click X to close folder. 10 P a g e

11 Settings Menu The settings menu allows you to view and change basic system settings, such as updating user profile, changing wallpaper, managing apps, and cloud link. The settings menu can be accessed from the start menu or the settings link on the task bar as indicated by the gear icon. Profile The profile tab allows you to modify a range of personal settings which include your name and address, profile picture, ability to change your password even change the overall look of the LaunchPad by selecting a different theme color. Change Profile Picture: To update the profile picture, simply click the 'Change Picture' link below the portrait. Click the browse button and locate the profile picture you wish to upload. Default View: Select the default view after logging into the LaunchPad - choose either the Virtual Desktop or Instructional Desktop, whichever you prefer! Theme Setting: Select from a variety of theme colors. Theme colors will apply to the task bar, start menu, and other LaunchPad virtual windows. To change a theme, click the Change Theme link on the bottom of the Profile tab. Change Password (if permitted): Users can change their password in the New Password and Confirm New Password fields. 11 P a g e

12 Desktop The desktop tab allows end users to change their wallpaper from a list of ClassLink wallpapers or upload their own wallpaper (if permitted by the admin). Users also have the ability to turn off Single-click for desktop icons. Password Locker & Single Sign-on Manage your SSO (Single Sign-On) applications within the password locker portion of your settings menu. The password locker stores credentials for SSO enabled applications. When a user launches an SSO enabled application for the first time, the credentials inputted gets stored in the password locker. The next time the application is opened, the user is automatically signed in. If the username/password for a particular application or web resource has been changed, go to the password locker to update the credentials. Manage Apps The Manage Apps tab, the same as My Apps in the Start Menu, are applications assigned to the user by system administrators or added by the end user. Users can add applications to the desktop by clicking add. Cloud Link Link your Google account with your LaunchPad account. Using Google oauth, users can login to the LaunchPad using their Google account by clicking the Sign In With Google box on the LaunchPad login screen. 12 P a g e

13 Linking your Google Account: 1. Click the Link Account box 2. Input your Google address and password, click the Sign In box. 3. LaunchPad will request permission to link your account, click Allow Access. 13 P a g e

14 4. Success! Your Google account has been linked with your LaunchPad account. 5. The Cloud Link tab will now display the linked Google Account. If you wish to unlink the account, simply click the unlink account box. 6. From the LaunchPad login page you can now login by clicking sign in with Google. 14 P a g e

15 Help Menu Support Browser Check The help menu features our online help knowledge base with videos and guides to help users learn LaunchPad. You can also reach out to ClassLink for LaunchPad support with our built in web form. You can also conduct a browser check here when trouble shooting. Browser check makes sure your software is up to date so LaunchPad can run properly. Switch Views Here you can easily toggle back and forth between the Virtual and Instructional View. Both views can be opened independently in separate browser tabs. You can set a default, either the virtual view or the instructional view within your user profile under the settings menu. 15 P a g e

16 Cloud Drive Located on your desktop, Cloud Drive gives you access to your personal files, shares, and class resources. For more information about Classes, refer to the Instructional Desktop. A: Folder Breadcrumb: allows users to keep track of their folder locations and provides links back to each previous page the user navigated through. For Example: All Files and Folders>Shared>Science>Slides B: Current Folder: Displays the name of the current folder including the number of files and subfolders within the current folder. C: Search Box: Search a file or folder D: Settings: set default actions for file extensions users specify E: Refresh Button: Refresh the current folder F: Cloud Folder: indicates a folder stored on the ClassLink cloud storage. Identified by a cloud on folder icon G: Network Folder (if applicable): indicates a Windows network mapped folder, such as a network home folder and shares. Identified by a Windows icon H: Trash: Stores deleted files from Cloud storage. The trash does not store files that were deleted from network mapped folders. Files in trash can be restored to its original cloud folder location or a new location 16 P a g e

17 Upload Methods Cloud Drive allows users to upload a file(s) to their cloud or network mapped folders. Uploading files can be done four ways: Single File Multiple Files Drag and Drop Bulk Upload Uploading Files To upload a file, click the button located on the top right of Cloud Drive subfolder. Files will be uploaded to the current folder. Select one of the four options for uploading: 17 P a g e

18 File Actions Additional actions are available for all files. Simply click the down arrow column to open the file actions window in the actions (Left) New Actions Window (Middle) How to create a New File or Folder (Right) Enter new folder name New File or Folder Creating new folders and files is available by clicking the new box located on the top right of the Cloud Drive. This opens an option box allowing you to create new folder, new Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document in the current folder. Time Machine Available in cloud stored files, Time Machine allows you to view and restore old versions of a file. Corrupted file? Looking for an old version or original version of a file? Use Time Machine. LaunchPad keeps all past versions files in the cloud conveniently stored for you to reference. Time Machine is available in the file actions menu 18 P a g e

19 Browsers and Local Editing Cloud to client and dealing with the prompts downloading local.jnlp files Allays allow Java. If you want to open and edit your document, you must allow LaunchPad to work around your firewall by accepting Java prompts when downloading and saving from the cloud. Do you want to keep this app? YES! Make sure to click on the app launcher on the bottom of your screen Be sure to click the small arrow and choose to always open with Java! 19 P a g e

20 Instructional Desktop The instructional desktop serves as your course centric view of the LaunchPad. Here your access discussions boards, class pages, video and content, submit assignments, and much more! A: Edit Profile: Allows you to edit your profile settings, picture, name, and desktop theme. B: My Classes: Displays all the classes you are enrolled in for the current calendar year. C: Calendar: See and add events and deadlines to your calendar. D: Cloud Drive: Gives you instant access to your classes, documents and shared drives. E: Switch View: Takes you back to the virtual desktop view. F: Inbox: An internal private for communication between students and teachers. G: Search: Search within the instructional desktop H: Recent Activity: Shows all the activity within your classes. 20 P a g e

21 Enrolling in a New Class This will assist you with enrolling in a new class within the Instructional Desktop. A: My Classes: See all your classes & select enroll in class. B: Search: Search for a class by class name. C: Enroll in a Class: Select a class from a list that you would like to enroll in. D: Enroll Tab: Pulls down the enrollment menu and allows you to enter a password. E: Enter Password: Enter a password (if necessary) to enroll in a class. F: Enroll: Enroll in the selected class. 21 P a g e

22 Understanding Your Class Discuss: See the dialog within your class. Recent Activity: See the recent activity in your class. Class Pages: Displays the digital content for your class. Whiteboard: An interactive place to learn, follow along and interact! Shared Documents: Gives you instant access to your class documents. Assignments: See what assignments are due and submit your work here! Calendar: See upcoming class events and deadlines. 22 P a g e

23 Class Pages Class Pages is a place to access content for your classes. Select show content to display the material below. Select hide content to minimize the content. A: Search: Search for a class page by key word or name. B: Help: Walkthroughs, slideshows, quick reference and video tutorials to help with understanding. C: Hide/Show Content: Minimize or display the content within the class on your view. G: Expand & Print: Enlarge the content on the page view in full screen and print the content of the class page. 23 P a g e

24 Whiteboard The Whiteboard provides you with an interactive space to learn, follow along and interact with you teacher and peers! A: Controls: Your teacher can pass you controls when needed. When controls are given, you are able to draw, point, type, highlight and make stamps on the screen. B: Log-out: Log-out of the Whiteboard here. In doing so, your name will no longer show up under participants. C: Raise Hand: Click this button to notify the teacher that you have a question. D: Participants: A list of who is logged into the Whiteboard lesson. E: Chat: A forum to ask questions and communicate with all the participants in the Whiteboard lesson. F: Teacher Pointer: Your teacher s name will appear under his or her cursor for you to follow along. 24 P a g e

25 Assignment Submit assignments and see due dates in your class drop box. When a due date is set the assignment deadline will be added to the course calendar. A: Type of Assignment: You are able to filter assignments by all, open or expired assignment postings. B: Assignment Name: The title of the assignment (remember you can search for this title in the search bar. C: Due Date: Assignment due date. D: Submission: See if your assignment was successfully uploaded and see which students have submitted their work within the class. E: Upload: Upload a document from your local device to submit to your teacher (see Upload Assignment in next section). F: Assignment: Your teacher may attach a copy of the assignment here for you to download or view. 25 P a g e

26 Upload Assignment A: Student Remark: You must give the submission a title or remark. B: File Upload: Upload a document from your local device to submit to your teacher. C: Save: After you have uploaded your work, click save to submit. D: Cancel: Cancel the upload process. E: Submission Date: A time stamp for what day the assignment was submitted. F: Download: View, access and delete submitted assignments. 26 P a g e

27 Calendar Visit the calendar to see when assignments are due for all your classes. You can select a preferred calendar view: day, week or month. Internal (When Approved) LaunchPad allows you to communicate through its own private server. 27 P a g e

28 Collaboration and Messaging (When Approved) What 21 st Century Tech Tool would be complete without powerful collaboration? Launchpad allows users to instant message and chat in real time with other teachers or students. Chat, webcam and even share screens with teachers and peers! Both the virtual and instructional view has built in collaboration. Instantly chat with teachers To star using chat, click on the chat bar in the bottom right and you will see a list of available users. After you click on a user you will see a window with the users name and list of functions available to you. To send a message, simply type in a message and press enter. Logging Off Logging off so soon? You are welcome back at any time! It s recommended that you always log off from LaunchPad when you are done with your session. Click on the log off icon in the upper right corner of the virtual desktop toolbar or in the upper right corner of the instructional view. 28 P a g e

29 Frequently Asked Questions I don t see any users online, where is everyone? Teachers will see teachers in their building that are currently logged in and any students enrolled in their classes in the Instructional View. If you are a student and not enrolled in any classes, you will not see any users in the list. What are some non ClassLink issues that affect the performance of LaunchPad? Wireless Network inconsistencies Printing Hardware and Software issues What if I forgot my username or password? You will have to contact your network administrator or help desk.
