2 Page Two Overview The Digital Classroom comprises of 6 x Top-Tec Synergy Collaborative Tables (3 x quad design, 3 x plectrum design), each with its own Samsung group display. There is also a Top- Tec Gemini Lectern that houses the technical equipment, together with an ipad that has the Kramer K-Touch control App that allows the teacher to control the room. All Students are able to connect any wireless device to their own table simultaneously. Any connected device can be shown on the screen, or up to four connections can be simultaneously shown on the display if there is information that needs to be compared or contrasted. It is also possible for all students to work as one co-creating the same document, so long as the owner of the content being shown gives their permission for team members to collaborate on their documents. Using the ipad to control the room, the teacher has a small number of options to control the content: They can view the content from any team screen on their own lectern display. They can send their own content (from a university computer, their own laptop, a visualiser, etc.) to all the team tables. They can send the content from any team screen to all the team screens. They can blank all the screens if they want the students to stop collaborating and listen to some instruction. As part of the current configuration, if the teacher is controlling the team screens, the individual teams do not have an option to access other information until the teacher gives control of the screens back to the individual teams. If this were required, a tablet would be required for each table as the control mechanism to do this. The technology for this and further control options is already in the room.

3 Page Three Connecting to a team table The wireless receivers are Kramer VIA Connect Pro Collaboration Hubs You will need client software on your device in order to connect. This is obtained as follows: Windows Laptop Log-on to the Network. If the Digital Classroom is not connected to Eduroam, the network is called KUK_Roadshow. Into the browser bar (where you would normally type the address of a website you want to visit), type the name of the table you are sat at. The name will be displayed on the screen next to Room Name. For example red.table When you hit enter you will see the following screen. Clicking Run will connect you to the system now, but not install the software app on your device for future use in any Kramer VIA enabled room. Click install to install the Kramer VIA App on your laptop. Once the install is complete, launch the Kramer VIA App in order to connect to the system. Room Name Nickname Room Code In Room Name type your table name, i.e. red.table In Nickname type a name that will identify you as the user The four-digit code will appear on the screen automatically When you have successfully connected, you will see the following dialogue box Features Step-In Participants Click on Participants to see who is connected already Click on Step-In to show the content of your desktop on the team screen

4 Page Four Apple MacBook Log-on to the Network. If the Digital Classroom is not connected to Eduroam, the network is called KUK_Roadshow. Click install to install the Kramer VIA App on your laptop. At present, the audio drivers do not automatically install as part of a MacBook installation. This can be solved quickly. Browse to your downloads folder and you will see where the Kramer Files have just downloaded to. There is a folder for Audio Files. Launch the installer file and the audio file installation will initiate. Now when you play any media files the audio will also be transferred to the team screen / room. Once the install is complete, launch the Kramer VIA App in order to connect to the system. 5 Page Five ios Device (iphone, ipad, ipod) Users need to visit the Apple App Store and search for the Kramer Via App. The icon on the App will look like this. Install the APP, and when you launch it, the screen will look like this. In Room Name type your table name, i.e. red.tabn Nickname type a name that will identify you as the user. When you click on log-in you will be prompted for a 4-digit code that is on the screen. Enter the code, click enter, and you will connect to VIA. You will now see the following screen on your iphone or ipad. Click Step-In to put the content of your device on the team screen.

6 Page Six [ios and MacBook Mirroring Alternative Connection] For Apple users it is possible to connect directly to the VIA Connect using AirPlay Once connected to the network, swipe up from the bottom of your device (click the AirPlay menu on the Apple Menu Bar on a MacBook or Apple Computer), click AirPlay and choose the VIA Connect PRO s AirPlay device name. By default, the VIA s AirPlay is name VIA_AirMirror_xxxx, where xxxx is a random combination of letters and numbers. You will be prompted to enter the four-digit code to connect. If you connect using AirPlay, you will not have access to the common features that are part of the Kramer VIA App. Android Device (i.e. Samsung Galaxy Tablet) Users need to visit the Google Play Store and search for the Kramer Via App. The icon on the App will look like this. When you launch the App on your Android Device, the process is identical to that for using the Kramer VIA App on an ios device

7 Common Features Page Seven Common Features Once you have initiated the Kramer VIA App and connected to the VIA Connect hub, you will have the following dialogue box on-screen. Features Step-In Participants As already explained, Step-In allows you do display your information on screen (as a sole or multiple participant) and Participants lets you see a list of who else is connected. When you click the Features Icon, the following screen appears: Multimedia: Copy your multimedia files here, and play from here instead of your device. Cloud: Drag and Drop files to the cloud to share instantly with everyone in the session Multimedia Cloud Enable Control Whiteboard Enable Control: Allows Mac and PC users only to give participants with any device control of their content. File Transfer Start Collaboration Chat Whiteboard: Starts a whiteboard session and automatically provides the user with interactivity to the main screen. File Transfer: Shares files between connect participants during the session. Start Collaboration: If another user has Enabled Control of their device, users can interact and control their software/device. Chat: Send Chat messages directly to other participants.

8 Common Features Page Eight Multimedia: Copying your media files here and playing back ensures smooth full-motion video playback (up to 1080p/60fps) as well as MP3 and photo files. Supports: avi, vob, mp4, mpx (ex. mpg) Cloud: Drag and Drop files to a storage area on the VIA Connect Pro so they can be shared instantly with everyone in the session Enable Control: When you select this option on a windows notebook or MacBook other participants who go into the settings on their own device and enable Start Collaboration will be able to control your computer, including co-creating information in files and documents. Whiteboard: Starts a whiteboard session and automatically provides the user with interactivity to the main screen. In addition to the features that you would expect to find on a whiteboard (colour pens, erasers, text input, etc., there is also a Show Desktop feature which allows you to annotate over a document or webpage, and then save that as an image file. File Transfer: Shares files between connect participants during the session. Start Collaboration: If another user has Enabled Control of their device, users can interact and control their software/device. On an ios and Android device you get a trackpad on screen to provide mouse control. When you want to select an area to add text, for example, press on the bar beneath the trackpad. Now you can press the keyboard icon to the right of the bar and bring up the keyboard. Using the mouse and keyboard on a Windows notebook or MacBook, move the mouse to the very top of your own screen. Now when you move the mouse up, the mouse pointer appears on the host s desktop instead of your own. You can select items, insert text, and take control as required.
