1 October 14, 2015 TO: Parents of students, grades 4-8 RE: Ski Program 2015 ~ 2016 Dear Parents, It is time to begin thinking about skiing and snowboarding at Wachusett Mountain! We are offering a program for students in grades 4-8. Third grade students are not eligible to take part in the school program unless their parent transports them to and from the mountain and accompanies them 100% of the time. Our program extends for six weeks and will operate on the following Fridays: January 8, 15, 22, 29 and February 5 and 12. If a make-up day is necessary because of a school closing, it will be held on February 26. Please read the enclosed Wachusett Mountain Program Flyer carefully for information about rental equipment, lessons, badge insurance, and cancellation policies. Students in the program will be dismissed at 3:30pm and buses will depart for the mountain as soon as possible. Lessons will begin at 5:00pm followed by free skiing until 8:00pm. Students purchasing Student Badges will not be able to ski later than 8:00pm with their badge. Please note that there will not be any Applewild supervision at the mountain after 8:00pm. As a parent, you are responsible for your child if s/he is staying at the mountain later than 8:00pm. All Applewild students are required to wear helmets to participate in the program. Helmets may be rented or purchased at Wachusett Mountain. Applewild students may not ski alone. Each student must have a partner or buddy at all times when skiing or snowboarding. If you would like to register your child for the Wachusett Mountain program, the application is now all online: Parents Step ONE: go to Parents Step TWO: Program Code: AWLD Parent s to enter Code to access order form. Select the 6 week Lift Badge option AND include the $15 fee for sessions departing after 7pm our sessions run until 8:00 pm (unless you have opted to select a season pass). Indicate if you would like to rent skis, snowboard, or a helmet (again, choose the six week option). Indicate if you would like to include lessons (note that lessons are required for ability levels 1 4, as defined by Wachusett Mountain Ski and Snowboard School). DO NOT include the bus fee with the online application see below for transportation information. Include the optional COW card if you would like your child to have it (this is a card your child can use to make cafeteria purchases without the need for cash).
2 Include the Freestyle Upgrade if your child wants a Terrain Park Pass. Include the Board/Pass Insurance Fee if you would like to purchase this. Make online payments to Wachusett Mountain Ski Area. Administration Fee & Transportation Form. Please complete our enclosed form detailing transportation arrangements and make the administration fee check payable to Applewild School. In order to be in the program you must pay the administration fee of $75 if your child does ride the bus to Mt. Wachusett or $25 if your child does not ride the bus. All parents are responsible for arranging transportation home from the mountain. Volunteer Information. The ski/snowboard program requires parental help and support in order to run smoothly. Many parents in the past have given generously of their time. If you can volunteer, please complete the chaperone form. Chaperones are necessary to ensure adequate supervision for everyone. There are a limited number of one-day tickets available for chaperone volunteers, but if you plan to come and ski every Friday, please consider volunteering to be a Chaperone Ranger. You will get some additional training from Wachusett Mountain Ski Patrol and assist them in watching out for skiers/boarders who may need their assistance. Adults are also needed to sit in the lodge at our Applewild table and supervise our home base. As an additional incentive, Wachusett Mountain is hosting Chaperone Appreciation Days scheduled this season on December and again March 12-13, Complimentary skiing/snowboarding and rentals will be available if you assist with 3 or more sessions. MISSED SKI DAYS Inclement weather: If school is cancelled on a ski-day Friday, the ski program is cancelled for that day. If the weather presents a risk to students and we decide to cancel the ski program on a day when school is in session, we will make the decision by 12:30pm and will list cancellations on the Applewild School Sports Hotline number ( or 4090, press 9). We will also alert the students and you may hear directly from your child or a school representative. Illness or absence: If your child is going to be absent either from school or just from the ski program, please notify us as soon as possible. I will notify the group sales department and get an $18 coupon which your student can redeem for credit toward a lift ticket, rental, equipment or lesson. When students want to redeem their absentee coupon, they ll go to the Customer Service Counter. Pass holders simply adhere to the terms of their ski pass. Misc. notes. Please remind your child that the Wachusett Mountain Conduct Code states that proper behavior in the base lodge includes no skis or snowboards in the buildings; removing trash from tables; returning trays to the cafeteria; and keeping the stairs, doorways and aisles clear at all times. Please complete all of the online forms and bus checks to the main office by deadline Friday October 30th, 2015 to avoid the late fee. Diane Toolin sells discounted season passes, lessons and rentals for adults, siblings and friends not enrolled in the School program, called the Greatest Possible Savings Club.
