1 School Sport Challenge In partnership with Lincolnshire Sport School Information Pack

2 Dear Headteacher Do you want your school to benefit from taking part in a day of sporting activities that can include every pupil? The School Sport Challenge Our School Sport Challenge events incorporate a variety of inclusive activities and sports which are suitable for every pupil to be included in as an intra school sport challenge. All activities and sports covered have been created using the activities relating to the School Games Level 1 formats, along with primary versions of sporting movements and concepts. There are three sporting packages available; Athletics, Striking and Ball Sports. Up to seven activities will be delivered in each package, dependant on the space available and the number of pupils participating. All pupils receive a Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate All pupils will receive an overall Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate depending on the scores they achieve in each activity. Additionally there are also six values medals, relating to the School Games values that will be presented to those pupils that display Determination, Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self-belief and Teamwork. Lincolnshire Sport Sport Packages The School Sport Challenge has three sporting packages to choose from: Athletics Balance Chest push Javelin throw Long jump Relay Speed bounce Target throw The School Sport Challenge event will be delivered by Lincoln College sport students and supervised by tutors who will oversee activities being delivered to all year groups or as many as you wish to take part. The School Sport Challenge event caters for up to 200 pupils per day split into groups of 40 pupils. Do more with Mega Fest, VIRSCO and Target Challenge If your school would like to cater for more pupils then you could book a second School Sport Challenge event or book a Mega Fest. We have also teamed up with VIRSCO who provide sports coaching and sessions focussing on the benefits of peer-evaluation and active learning. Through this link you can access follow up coaching in order to link School Sport Challenge to pupil progress and/or assessment. Through our partnership with Target Challenge you can enhance the day with our unique way of raising valuable funds for your school. With Target Sport Events the children get to shoot at a giant inflatable target as an additional activity on the day and have the chance to receive great prizes depending on the amount of money they raise. It s a win-win opportunity. 4 Training Offer VIRSCO will provide an individualised programme which will concentrate on the core skills that were used during your School Sport Challenge. We will have access to the icoach4sport system to monitor progress to help your pupils hone their skills. During the training offer you can expect; - Developed lesson plans to help you get ready for your next School Sport Challenge - System monitoring of each child s progress in each School Sport Challenge - Full days of coaching at the school for each class to access VIRSCO will provide lots of fun activities at each session and develop the skills of each pupil to help them achieve their best. Our coaches have all been specifically trained to work and use the system and are all qualified coaches with valid paperwork. Target Sports Help raise money for your school by giving your children the opportunity to develop key skills whilst having fun. The Target Challenge is simple and fun. Children of all ages have 5 attempts to kick or throw at a giant inflatable goal with target holes from 10 to 100 points. The higher degree of difficulty of target they hit, the more points they get. At the end of the event the highest point scorers and fundraisers will have earned themselves prizes ranging from wristbands to exclusive England Prize Bags. First and foremost, participation in Target Challenge is fun and exciting for the children. It is a fund raising event with very little work for you to do, yet at the same time raising valuable funds for your school. As a sporting event it supports parts of the national curriculum. In particular, the key stages of physical education. To book VIRSCO for up to 10 weeks please schools@lincolnshiresport.com for a booking form. Sports Equipment Library Hire sports equipment for your events: Bespoke packages tailored to your school s need Flexible booking available for 1-6 terms Bronze, Silver & Gold packages starting from just 50 Wide range of sports & activities Inclusive sports including; Boccia, Goalball & New Age Kurling Wrist Band + Pencil/Notepad + Watch + Football + Trophy + Kit Bag Kit Bag Includes: England bag containing a variety of sporting goodies. Prior to the Target Challenge Fundraising Event: A Target Challenge representative will contact or visit your school to discuss your Target Challenge. An assembly is organised for your children typically three weeks before the event. Our coaches will visit your school to talk to the staff and children about the fundraising day and how it all works. Event details and posters are left with the school to help you advertise the Target Challenge and gain interest and participation from the children. The school hands out sponsorship forms and letters to parents to the children after the assembly. The school collects the sponsorship forms and monies before the event takes place On the day of the Fundraising Event: Target Challenge is one of the stations of sporting activities on the day. Medals and certificates are awarded to the children from each class with the highest scores. After the Fundraising Event: After all sponsorship forms have been collected, the school will be presented with a cheque for the money raised. (Sponsorship monies collected after the event will be collected at a time of convenience and prizes sent accordingly). The children's prizes will be delivered at the same time as the fundraising cheque is presented, to all children that have raised the minimum 6.00 For more information please feel free to contact Phil Skayman on the number below or visit our website. e: targetsportevents@hotmail.co.uk t:

5 The school sport challenge was amazing for our children, the events organised were simple enough for the youngest children but challenging enough for the older children. This was down to the expertise of the young leaders, they were fantastic and will make brilliant coaches and teachers in coming years! Tom Shaw St Helena s C of E Primary, Willoughby All the children (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed it and had a great time. It was fantastic for them to experience different sports which many had not encountered before. Hayley Sparrow Y1 Class Teacher and PE Co-ordinator Market Deeping Community Primary School The Lincoln College students were fantastic with the children as they spoke to them clearly and precise and encouraged them throughout the whole of the activities. What an amazing programme that really gives children the motivation and inspiration to participate more in sports. Nathan Shortland, PE Coordinator, Spalding Primary School The School Sport Challenge is a great way for Primary schools to utilise some of their Primary School Sports Premium funding by encouraging the whole school to get involved and try new activities whilst also learning about the School Games competition.
