Join IChemE today Your active professional community
Advancing chemical engineering worldwide The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is the global, professional membership body for chemical engineering professionals and anyone involved with process engineering; including employers, researchers and those who educate and train chemical engineers. We also offer straightforward routes to membership to others with an active interest in the profession. With over 42,000 members in 120 countries, IChemE is the only organisation that awards the internationally-recognised Chartered Chemical Engineer and Professional Process Safety Engineer qualifications. We set the standards for chemical engineering and process safety engineering professionals. IChemE is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led organisation, with members ranging from apprentices and students, through to professors and business leaders. We support our members, and the wider engineering community, through a team of professional staff based in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the UK. Achievement of the requirements for some membership grades may also qualify candidates for registration with the UK s Engineering Council and other relevant licensing bodies.* * Science Council (UK), Society for the Environment (UK), Board of Professional Engineers Queensland (Australia), and the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK).
Better information, better contacts, better engineering IChemE members can access: The Chemical Engineer (tce) magazine, which features the latest news, in-depth articles and current job vacancies. Members can also access the magazine online, via a smartphone/tablet app and sign up for daily news and job alerts Knovel searchable online e-library containing over 300 leading reference works, databases and problem-solving tools 4,000 peer-reviewed papers in IChemE s online journal archive shared technical learning and professional support through an international network of member and special interest groups preferential rates for IChemE conferences, courses, journals and books
Volunteer and make a difference Many members offer their time and expertise to help IChemE advance chemical engineering worldwide. Volunteer roles include: ambassador, author, committee member, event organiser, interviewer, mentor and reviewer. In return, volunteers develop their skills and networks and contribute to advancing the profession. Find out how to get involved: Chemical engineering matters IChemE s Chemical Engineering Matters initiative prompts our community to assess the role of chemical engineering in delivering process and product solutions that will maintain and improve quality of life in the 21st century. Sign-up to our Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube channels and download our latest thinking at: We have identified four challenge areas where chemical engineering makes a difference: energy, food, water, and health and wellbeing. Process safety, sustainability, education, training, and research are also addressed. Chemical Engineering Matters is a continuing debate and all members are encouraged to contribute.
Global, local, broad and specific Our qualified member grades are internationally recognised and demonstrate an individual s level of professional competence to employers, policy makers, regulators and society. Each professional membership grade, including Chartered Chemical Engineer, is awarded following a review of evidence demonstrating that an applicant meets the minimum required level of knowledge and experience. Achievement of some membership grades equates to the requirements of other professional registrations. Members can apply and pay for these additional registrations via IChemE. Process safety practitioners, who have achieved the required standard, may register as Professional Process Safety Engineers. This registration carries the same professional status as Chartered Chemical Engineer.
