7 Security Enhanced (SE) Android Pilot SE Android is a project to identify and address critical gaps in the security of Android. It consists of Linux kernel and Android user space modifications. Wind River enhances SE Android by implementing additional features to remove vulnerabilities and allow more specialized policy managements for your specific requirements It includes the following capabilities: Semi-custom policy for downloaded applications Restricted privileges as demanded by most enterprises and IT organizations Code extensions to support standard Android drivers 7

8 Lightweight Partitioning Pilot Lightweight Partitioning is a security isolation strategy providing two or more encrypted partitions where data is kept safe and secure. Keeps only one domain active at a time with switching through reboot. Commercial and Secured partitions Supported on many COTS devices 8

9 Secure Boot Pilot Secure boot provides the foundation of security by verifying each stage of boot process before being executed. This mechanism allows only authenticated software and prevents malicious code from being executed. It implements a chain of trust in which every component in the boot process measures the next one. If any component fails to pass signature verification, the boot process will stop. 9

12 Media Center SA Media Center implements interoperability to provide interconnectivity with Android devices. Allows users to easily acquire, store, and access digital content located on otherwise disparate electronic devices such as TV s, Blu-ray players, and PC s. It is comprised of three components: Digital Media Server: Stores content and makes it available to networked digital media players Digital Media Player: Finds content on digital media servers and provides playback and rendering capabilities Digital Media Controller: Finds content on digital media servers and plays it on designated players 12

13 Firmware Management SA Firmware Management extends the AOSP solution to provide a semi-automated or fully automated update mechanism tailored to a particular Android implementation or device. Security that allows only authorized and signed update packages to access the device. Several different update methods are available: Typical developer methods: Manual key presses, Android Debug Bridge (ADB), and Secure Digital (SD), cards or thumbsticks Typical end-user manual methods: System Updates in the Settings menu, pointing the browser at the desired build Typical operator fully or semi-automated methods: Firmware-over-the-air (FOTA), with or without user confirmation 13

14 Hyperboot SA Hyperboot saves significant time during the Android device boot cycle. It offers four ways to reduce the boot time: Cold boot optimization: Optimizes the device start up after the power is turned on; power cycling clears memory and many internal settings Hibernation (warm boot): Reduces the time for a device to boot from zero power, where a previous system state is loaded and the system resumes from it Optimized driver I/O performance: Improves the boot speed by combining asynchronous I/O with compression for smaller image size and maximum throughput Android Package Manager optimization: Reduces the standard application scan to optimize the loading time * Performance gained from Hibernation feature, 22 vs. 5.5 sec, tested with TI OMAP on Jan

15 Multi-Windowing SA Multi-windowing extends the standard Android capabilities to provide support for multiple applications running at the same time in different windows. Capabilities include: Provides optimally designed user interface styles for different device types Covers different use cases such as picture-in-picture or split screen Provides rich features for each use case (minimize, maximize, move, resize, overlap, etc.) Consists of validated and commercial-quality technology Picture-in-Picture Split Screen Full Windowing 15

16 ipod on Android SA ipod on Android provides access to multimedia contents on ios devices directly from Android-based devices. The connection can be via USB or Bluetooth. Supported devices include iphone, ipad, ipod Touch, ipod Nano, and ipod Classic. The solution highlights following features: Small footprint design takes less than 300KB of memory High level performance that doesn t need a media provider. Instead, the solution displays media list directly from ios device The solution supports rich level of iap commands including Display Remote UI can be branded to meet your needs. 16

17 Automotive SA Pack The Automotive Solution Accelerator Pack is designed to overcome the barriers of porting Android to an automotive platform, accelerating time-to-market and helping to create a connected car experience that is robust, feature rich, and sustainable. OEM and Tier-1 manufacturers can utilize this product to quickly build their own Android products and fill the gap between the AOSP and real-market requirements. It includes components that provide a seamless integration between Android communication features and automotive requirements: Apple ipod/iphone/ipad docking for media access through the central unit console Customizable in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) graphical user interface, changing the appearance of the central display with color scheme, theme, button location or size, and other customizable graphic assets FM radio framework Automotive UI FM Radio Multi-Windowing 17

18 Medical SA Pack The Medical Solution Accelerator Pack includes a reference medical application and the standard industry interoperability protocols. This SA Pack includes the following components: Bluetooth Health Device Profile: This is designed to facilitate transmission and reception of medical device data. The APIs of this layer interact with the lowerlevel Multi-Channel Adaptation Protocol (MCAP) layer but also perform Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) behavior to connect to remote HDP devices. IEEE Health Informatics Protocol: This component performs building, transmission, reception, and parsing of IEEE Protocol Data Unit (PDU) packets for the associated agent/manager being developed and will link to the HDP. Continua-compliant device interoperability: There are 20 different Continuacompliant sensors in use today. 18
