Chair: Melvyn Lunn, Vice Chair, National Federation of ALMOs Chloe Fletcher, Policy Director, National Federation of ALMOs When self-financing replaced the Housing Revenue Account subsidy system in March 2012 we all produced 30 year business plans to demonstrate future viability but these have now been torn up and a much shorter view taken on sustainability. Chloe Fletcher, Policy Director of the NFA will tell us why. Keynote session: Public perceptions of social housing tenants Alison Inman, Vice Chair, TPAS Dawn Foster, Guardian In the wake of television programmes such as Benefits Britain and Benefits Street, a key priority of the ALMO sector is top challenge the negative stereotypes and media portrayal of social housing tenants. Alison and Dawn will ask are the perceptions wrong, why are these stereotypes adopted by the media and what can we do to portray such tenants in a more positive light? Chair: Maggie Rafalowicz, Campbell Tickell Simon Ketteridge, Director of Business Growth and Strategy, Riverside Sally Nicholson, Head of Health and Care, Riverside As housing organisations across the country start to work more closely with local health partners to tackle public health issues and provide housing solutions to some of the pressing issues within the NHS we are discovering that the two sectors talk in very different ways and it is not always easy to understand how each other works. This session will explore some of the pitfalls around communicating with health partners and share some of the more successful ways of building relationships at a local level. Looking forward, the session will assess what has been achieved so far and what the future might look like. The session will ask the question, will devolution work elsewhere and if so what lessons might be learned from Manchester s experience. This session looks beneath the headline and shares practical lessons helping you to prepare Lunch Breakout sessions C1 How can we speak a different language? We pride ourselves in having residents steer decision making and at least a third of their board constituted of tenants. In this session Cheltenham Borough Homes share their work and values.
