2 Training Programme Objectives The course is primary intended to employees in museums and other NGOs staff who would like to incorporate volunteerism in their work. The course is also suitable for teachers and school leaders who would like to enhance their cooperation with museums or NGOs. The participants are encouraged to bring their own experiences, questions and dilemmas in effective knowledge transfer, relationship building, motivation and conflict management in the context of volunteerism. Participants will receive a pre-course questionnaire about their background and expectations. As a part of preparation we will also send them the pdf of the manual Volunteers in Museums and Cultural Heritage an overview article on Relationship Awareness Theory (RAT) before the course start. We will ask the participants to prepare a short presentation about their country and their work. The main objective of the course is to empower museums and NGO organisation to establish an effective system of volunteerism in their organisation. By the end of the course participants will have a substantial understanding of characteristics of adult learning, the role of mentoring in volunteerism, selection and management of volunteers. They will develop core skills to build effective relationships and to avoid unnecessary conflicts by understanding conflict triggers. Methodology The course is designed as an interactive process with emphasis on establishing a mentor relationship between participants and trainer. It follows two-way communication process including discussions, interactive games, working in groups and pairs, presentations, case studies, thinking techniques and individual activities. The focus is on experiential learning and workshop approach. The participants will also receive a workbook with session s summaries and descriptions of activities used. We will recommend an interesting literature for further study. Preparation Delegate 5 minutes presentations. One of the main goals of the course is to connect among each other. In order to achieve this goal we kindly ask you to prepare a brief 5 minutes presentation. 6 Trainers has more than 20 years of experience in a wide variety of fields, where her interpersonal skills have given her a leading edge. This includes: pedagogical training, teaching in secondary schools, curator in the museum, PR and Marketing Manager, Head of Communication service and of course Trainer and Coach for SDI. Janja s style is highly interactive sharing her own experiences and encouraging others to do the same. She structures high quality learning experiences and yet is also highly flexible in ensuring individual needs are met and each participant gains exactly what they need at this moment to help them take the next step. Her areas of specialism include: Management development, Communication, Adult learning, Change management, Relationship management, Conflict management, SDI Qualification programmes. In addition to be a Master SDI Facilitator, Janja is also a Master practitioner in NLP as well as an NLP coach. She is trained in Adizes Management of Change at IEDC Bled School of Management and in trainer skills. As a historian and sociologist by education Janja is well suited to introducing the SDI into organisations and society both in Slovenia and through European projects. 7 Travel Travelling around the city centre is easy on foot although you will probably want a taxi service from the hotel to the training venue. The hotel can arrange you a taxi service every morning. Otherwise, the cheapest taxi service in Ljubljana is Taxi Rondo (T: , ). Please note that it is cheaper if you call a taxi by phone comparing to the price if you stop them in the street. 9 National and University Library Location: Turjaška ulica 1 Plečnik House currently closed for renovation works Location: Karunova ulica 4 The river Ljubljanica and its bridges The heart of Ljubljana's social life are the Ljubljanica river embankments, densely scattered with lively cafés offering outdoor seating. A good way to see the old city centre and its famous bridges, picturesque buildings and vibrant embankments from a completely different angle is to join a tourist boat cruise along the river.
