1 JESUS HEALS A BLIND MAN Mark 8:22-26 Jesus and His disciples were traveling from one town to another. When they came to the next town, some people brought a blind man to Jesus. They begged Jesus to heal the man so he could see. Jesus led the blind man out of the village. Then Jesus spit on the man's eyes and put his hands on the man. "Can you see anything now?" Jesus asked. "Yes," said the man. "I see people. But I can't see them clearly. They look like trees walking around." Jesus put his hands over the man's eyes again. Suddenly the man could see clearly. He was completely well again. Jesus sent the man home. "Don't go back into the village on your way home," Jesus told him. DISCUSSION: Where did Jesus meet the blind man? How did the man find his way to Jesus? What did Jesus do to help the man see? Why do you think Jesus healed the man this way? One minute makes a big difference when Jesus is with you. One minute a man is blind. The next minute he can see. Is something bothering you? Is something wrong? Ask Jesus to help you. If he can heal a blind man, he can help you with your problem too. Nothing is too big or too little for Jesus. Some content taken from the One Year Bible for Children, New Living Translation, Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. and V. Gilbert
2 JESUS IS CHANGED Luke 9:28-36 Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on a mountain to pray. While Jesus was praying, His face began to shine. His clothes became a bright, shining white. Suddenly Moses and Elijah were there. These two men, who had lived long ago, began to talk with Jesus. Moses and Elijah were wonderful to see. They talked with Jesus about how He would die in Jerusalem. They talked about how this would be part of God's wonderful plan. Peter and the others were tired and had gone to sleep. But suddenly they woke up and saw what was happening. Jesus was talking with Moses and Elijah. When Moses and Elijah started to leave, Peter wanted to say something. So he talked without thinking about it. He said to Jesus, "This is wonderful! We'll make three little shelters, one for each of you." Even as Peter spoke, a cloud came over them. The three disciples felt very scared. A voice spoke from the cloud. "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to Him." When the voice became silent, Jesus was there alone. For a long time Peter, James, and John did not tell anyone else what had happened there that day. DISCUSSION: Who went with Jesus up on a mountain? What happened to Jesus as He prayed? Who came from heaven to talk with Jesus? How did they look? What did they say? When God spoke through a cloud, who did He say was His Son? What did God tell the disciples to do? We should do what God tell us. God wants you to listen to Jesus. Whenever you read Jesus' words in the Bible, remember that. 3 WHO IS THE GREATEST? Matthew 18:1-10 "Which of us is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" the disciples asked Jesus. To answer their question, Jesus called a small child over to Him. "Unless you turn away from your sins and become like little children, you cannot get into heaven," Jesus answered. "The greatest person in the Kingdom of Heaven is the one who becomes humble, like this little child. "Whoever welcomes a little child for my sake welcomes me. Whoever causes a little child to lose faith in me will be punished greatly." Jesus also said, "Everyone will be tempted to do things that are wrong. But the person who causes the temptation will be punished. It would be better to lose a hand or a foot on earth than to lose your life with Jesus, which will last forever. Be careful not to hate a little child. Angels who live with God look after these little ones." DISCUSSION: What did the disciples ask Jesus? Who did Jesus say is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven? Who looks after little ones? The greatest people in the world are those who please Jesus. They are like children in their humility. They don't act as if they are more important than other people. Do you know someone who is humble? What is that person like? Before you begin to do something, ask if it will please Jesus. Can you please Jesus by being kind to a little child who is younger than you? Think about what you can do. Then do it! 4 A STORY ABOUT A LAMB Matthew 18:12-14 Jesus told this story about sheep and a shepherd. It is also a story about God's great love for lost people. Those are people who don't know that they are like sheep and that Jesus is like a shepherd to them. This is the story Jesus told. "A shepherd once had 100 sheep. But one of them wandered away. It became lost. What should the shepherd do now? The shepherd loved the lost little lamb. So he left the 99 other sheep that were safe and went out into the hills to look for the lost lamb. "When the shepherd found the lost lamb, he was very happy. He was happier about finding the lost lamb than about knowing 99 sheep were safe. "That's the way it is with God, my Father in heaven," said Jesus. "He does not want even one little lamb of His, not even one person, to be lost. He wants to help each little one live safely with Him forever in heaven." DISCUSSION: What did the shepherd do when one lamb was lost? How did he feel when he found his lost lamb? Does God want anyone to be lost from Him? Does He want every person to live with Him forever? God loves every person, even the smallest child. He doesn't want even one person to be lost. He wants everyone to know Him through Jesus. God wants you to live with Him in heaven someday! 5 A STORY ABOUT FORGIVING Matthew18:21-35 "How often should I forgive someone?" Peter asked Jesus. "Should I forgive someone seven times?" "You should forgive someone seven times, then seven more times, and seven times again, until you've done that 70 times," Jesus answered. Seventy times seven is 490 times. Jesus was saying you should never stop forgiving people. Then Jesus told this story about forgiving. "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a king who checked up on the people who had borrowed money from him. One man owed the king millions of dollars. He couldn't pay the money back. So the king ordered that the man and his family and all his things be sold to pay back the money. The man begged the king to forgive him. So the king felt sorry for him and forgave him. Then the man didn't have to pay back any of the money. "But when this man left the king, he went to see another man who owed him just a few thousand dollars. He said the second man had to pay him right away. The second man begged for forgiveness. But the first man would not forgive the other man. He had the second man put in jail. "Some people told the king what had happened. So the king called for the first man to be brought to him. 'You wicked man!' he shouted. 'I forgave you and didn't make you pay the millions of dollars you owed me. But you wouldn't forgive that other man for just a few thousand dollars.' Then the king sent this man to jail. He had to stay there until he had paid every penny he owed the king." Then Jesus said, "God, my Father in heaven, is like that king. That's how He will treat you if you don't forgive others." DISCUSSION: Who asked Jesus about forgiving? How many times should we forgive? Did Jesus mean we should only forgive 490 times? In the story Jesus told, how much did the first man owe the king? Did the king forgive him? How much did the second man owe the first man? Did the first man forgive the second man? What did the king do about this? We should forgive others as God forgives us. Have you ever done things that are wrong? Has God forgiven you? Is there someone you should forgive? Will you do it soon?

7 A STORY ABOUT A FRIEND Luke 10:25-37 One day a Jewish religious leader asked Jesus the way to heaven. Jesus asked the leader if he knew what the law said. "Love God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind," the man answered. "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." But then the man asked, "Who is my neighbor?" So Jesus told this story: "A Jewish man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. On the way some robbers beat him up and left him half dead along the road. "A priest came along. But he went to the other side of the road and passed the poor man by. Next a Temple worker came by. He looked at the man but kept on going. "Then a Samaritan man came by. Most Jewish people hated Samaritans. But this man didn't care. He felt sorry for the beat-up Jewish man. He took care of him through the night at an inn. He even gave the man who ran the inn some money to take care of the man who had been hurt. "So which man was a good neighbor?" Jesus asked the religious leader. "The man who was kind to the hurt man," the leader answered. "Then go and be kind to others in the same way," Jesus answered. DISCUSSION: What happened to the traveler? What did the first man do for him? What did the second man do? What did the Samaritan do? You wouldn't expect a hated person to help. But he did. He was a good friend and neighbor. Good friends do good things for others. They don't only talk about it. So good friends are good neighbors. Are you a good friend? Would you help someone you don't like? Would you help someone who is very different from you? What would Jesus want you to do?

9 the b-i-b-l-e... god's book! Have you talked with God today? What did you say to Him this morning? Did you complain because you want more from Him? Did you talk about the things you want but don't need? Or did you thank Him for what He has done for you? Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for He is our God. We are the people He watches over, the sheep under His care. Psalm 95:6-7 DISCUSSION: God takes care of us like a good shepherd takes care of His sheep, so we should worship Him and praise Him. What would you think of a neighbor who brought good meals to your family three times each day? What if this neighbor cut all your grass, washed your windows, cleaned your house, and took care of your family? Would you thank this person often? God takes care of us by giving us all we have. Do you thank him often? Do you praise Him for who He is? Has God done something special for you? Has God given you something special? What should you do about that? Should you grumble because He hasn't done more? Should you take His good gifts and say nothing? Here's what the Bible says you should do. Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Sing to the Lord; bless His name. Each day proclaim the good news that He saves. Psalm 96:1-2 DISCUSSION: The whole earth should sing praise to God every day. Think of three good things God has done for your family. Think of three good things God has done for you. What would you like to say to God about these things?
