Enjoy a terrific experience using your Young Living Essential Oils by following a few simple guidelines for the greatest effectiveness and safety. When you receive your essential oils, open up those bottles and use them Don't be afraid to experiment with them and if the aroma is too strong, start with the bottle held at your navel instead of right under your nose.
1 Begin keeping a record. As you find yourself reaching for an essential oil to use, we recommend you keep track of the way you are using them and your successes with the oils. Start a journal, record your experiences. Soon you will notice that the essential oils are doing what they are supposed to do and you will take note that you just may be on to something very exciting Journaling your experiences like this will also help to build your confidence in using the oils. Plus, it will give you a record to refer to for future use when a similar need arises. At the same time, when people begin to ask you ways you ve used essential oils, you'll be prepared with some spectacular testimonials.
Some Hot Essential Oils: Thieves Blend Oregano Peppermint Cinnamon 2 Be mindful of hot essential oils. Some essential oils are referred to as hot oils. Simply put, when these oils are applied topically, you may feel a warming sensation and the skin may turn pink. Those particularly sensitive to the hot oils might feel the need to cool the area down quickly. If you have this type of experience, do not attempt to cool your skin with water it will only magnify the heat and make you more uncomfortable. Because essential oils are fat-soluble, you will want to reach for a fatty vegetable oil and just put a few drops of the vegetable oil on the warm area to dilute and disperse the essential oil. Young Living s V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex is good choice to use to dilute these essential oils. This oil complex nourishes the skin, has a long shelf life, doesn t clog pores, and will not stain clothes. V-6 is offered in both 8-ounce and 32-ounce refill bottles. Other options of fatty oils that may be used include olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil - or if you are in a pinch any fatty food like butter or milk may be used
3 Citrus essential oils can cause your skin to be photosensitive. If you apply a citrus essential oil before spending time in the sunlight, your skin may be more sensitive to burning. As a result, you may want to avoid the sun or take precautions after using citrus essential oils that are taken from the rind. Dr. David Stewart, in his book, The Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Simple says: Essential oils in some citrus rinds amplify ultraviolet light when the fruit is ripening to accelerate the creation of sugars. These oils may be photo toxic in that if one applies them to the skin and then goes out into sunlight or into a tanning booth, the amplification of radiation by the furanoid compounds can cause sunburn and alterations in the pigmentation of the skin.
4 Take care in applying essential oils for your ears Do not drip an essential oil directly into the ear. Instead, apply the oil around the ear. For example, for an earache or possible ear infection, try using Purification essential oil and apply in this way Let a drop or two fall from the bottle into the palm of your hand. Then, with the opposite hand dab some of the oil on your fingertips. Apply with your fingertips all over the ear, even inside the ear and on the ear lobe. Be sure to also apply the oil behind the ear, in front of the ear and then go down the side of the neck over the lymph node area and finally under the jaw line. For an infection, repeated applications throughout the day are recommended until it clears up and the ear feels good again.
5 Take care in applying essential oils for your eyes If you need to care for irritated eyes, one option is to choose a gentle essential oil such as lavender. Apply the essential oil along the bony area that surrounds the eye. Again, let a drop or two fall from the bottle into the palm of your hand. Then, with the opposite hand dab some of the oil on your fingertips. Take these fingers and rub a wide circle around the orbit of the eye taking care that the oil does not touch the eye directly. Another option is to let a drop or two of essential oil fall from the bottle into the palm of your hand, the rub the palms of your hands together. Now cup your hands over your eyes while you open your eyes and sort of roll them around. The vapor of the essential oil will be absorbed by the eye to begin working to heal the problem.
6 Your feet are an excellent place to apply essential oils. If you aren t sure where to apply an oil, or if you are using a hot oil such as Thieves, apply the oil to the bottom of the feet. Your feet will absorb essential oils into the rest of your body very quickly. In addition, there are areas of the feet where nerve endings are directly related to other parts of the body. These are called Vita Flex points on the feet. As you can see, the Vita Flex point on the feet for the sinuses is at the base of the toes. When congested, applying peppermint essential oil to this area may bring you relief. Of course, rubbing the oil all over the foot will deliver it into your body, too.
Layering essential oils 7 Layering essential oils can be an excellent application technique. For example, if you have pain that is deeper in your body, apply an oil for pain. Then, layer peppermint essential oil on top of the first oil and it will help to push the original oil in deeper. Peppermint essential oil is known to drive other oils deeper into the body tissue. Copaiba essential oil is another oil used when layering. Copaiba helps to enhance the effectiveness of other oils. As a result, when you layer copaiba essential oil over another essential oil, you will improve the benefit of the originally applied oil.
8 Refill the bottles from your kit for oils on-the-go The Premium Starter Kit comes with ten 5ml bottles of essential oil. When you purchase any of these oils again, you will receive them in a larger, 15ml bottle. The smaller 5ml bottles are an excellent size for traveling or carrying with you in your pocket or purse. Simply refill your smaller bottle with the oil from the larger bottle so you can take it with you on-the-go Questions? Contact me any time: Diane Laffoon Text or call: diane@dianelaffoon.com
