1 Royal Liberty Pupil Premium Achievement Pupil Premium is a government initiative designed to target resources on those pupils deemed to be from a disadvantaged background. Specifically, the Pupil Premium money is provided for those pupils who have been on Free School Meals (FSM) at any point over the past 6 years (Ever6) or those children who have been looked after continuously for at least 6 months (LAC). For the year 2016/2017 the Pupil Premium has a value of 935 per eligible pupil. There is also a smaller provision of 300 made for those pupils who have a parent in the armed services. Neither the government nor any government agencies have dictated how the Pupil Premium money should be spend, but what is clear is that the money should be used to promote strategies, which narrow the attainment gap between the highest and lowest achieving pupils. In the academic year 2015/16 Royal Liberty School received 159,915 Pupil Premium funding. This plan shows how money was spent and the impact it had on student achievement. In the academic year 2016/17 the school received 148,965. The development plan for spending this year's funding will be posted before September The review section of this will be completed in July 2017.

2 The Royal Liberty School Development Plan for Pupil Premium Strategy Cost Intended Impact on Student Progress & Development Review of Outcomes Learning Mentor-to support vulnerable students and their 25,000 Support students who experience difficulties to attend families school & achieve. Provide regular point of contact and support system for vulnerable students. Provide individual & group mentoring to improve attendance. The Learning Mentor saw 40 students in , 20 of whom were Pupil Premium. Students met with the mentor once or twice a fortnight depending on the issues raised. They were able to discuss issues they were unable to resolve themselves. A variety of referrals included self-esteem, organisation, peer relationships, transition, friendships and family issues. Work Related Learning Co-Ordinator-to support all aspects of careers, college applications advice with particular focus on PP students 25,000 Ensure that all students, especially FSM are in employment, training or education Post-16. Sessions were predominantly on a one to one basis. 4 of the Pupil Premium students had issues with attendance. These students were encouraged to improve attendance by discussing issues that may be preventing them coming to school. They became more involved in after school clubs and parental engagement improved due to more targeted contact with their parents. Each of the 38 Year 11 Pupil Premium students attended individual interview sessions with a Personal Advisor from Prospects Careers Service. Sessions included one to one interviews to

3 Reduced class sizes in core subjects and using teachers to support targetted students 34,000 Increase percentage studying at Level 3 (A Levels) Increase percentage of students making 4 levels of progress in English & Maths. prepare their individual year 9 Transition Plan and their year 10/11 Action Plan for their Post 16 Studies. These are to ensure that they are provided with the appropriate guidance for them to achieve their future goals. All of these students are now in Post 16 education. 16% of students made 4 LOP in English 14% of students made 4 LOP in Maths Reduced class sizes in MFL to increase take-up of Ebacc subjects and increase achievement Part payment of AHT Standards salary, focus on Pupil Premium students 20,000 Increased take up of MFL Increased percentage of students achieving the Ebacc 20,000 All staff use data to: Inform teaching Track progress Identify issues Provide timely interventions Class sizes in Year 7 & 8 have been reduced with a maximum of 24 in each class. 16 Year 9 Pupil Premium students chose to study a language as an option subject in 2015/16. This represents 62% of the Year 9 Pupil Premium co-hort. The percentage of Pupil Premium students studying Ebacc subjects rose to 50%, this compares with 58% for all students choosing Ebacc subjects. In 2015/16 all subject leaders monitored the performance of pupil premium students comparing their performance against that of their peers. Intervention strategies were put in place to endeavour to close the gap. Interventions included the purchase of

4 Provision of a breakfast club for all Pupil Premium students 15,000 Improved attendance and punctuality of Pupil Premium students. Improved attainment of Pupil Premium Students. Staff overtime salary for after school club 5,000 Improved completion and quality of homework Staff & ICT Support in place to help students with homework Music Tuition subsidy 1,000 Provide free peripatetic music tuition for Pupil Premium students revision guides at KS4, calculators for Year 11 students and refreshments for after school revision. On average 60 Pupil Premium students attended Breakfast Club on a weekly basis. As breakfast was made available from 8am, students arrived to school on time and had a warm meal to start the day. The homework club, run by Learning Support Assistants, took place every day after school. 75% of the students who attended the club were Pupil Premium. Students received individual support and had access to computers in an IT room. 2 Pupil Premium students took weekly lessons in guitar and keyboards. Yr 7 Induction Trip subsidy for Pupil Premium 1,500 All students attend residential induction trip to assist a smoother transition from primary to secondary school through team building activities. Revision Support and resources for Yr 11 students 2,000 All students have access to appropriate resources. More focussed, productive revision. Attainment at GCSE improves. Alternative Provision/External Courses 8,915 Reduce exclusions. Re-engaged students at risk of exclusion and allow them to achieve target grades in English & Maths as part of a tailored 88 Year 7 students attended an overnight residential on Mersea Island in September Of these students, 15 were Pupil Premium, representing 60% of the Year 7 Pupil Premium cohort. Pupil Premium students were provided with Personalised Learning Checklists to help address gaps in knowledge. They were provided with exam board revision guides. The % of students who gained a C in English was 68 and 42 in Maths. For alternative provision we are supported by the London Borough of Havering and the social inclusion fund. In the school year

5 programme. Accelerated Reader subscription 2,500 The Accelerated Reader Programme has promoted a school wide approach to reading, benefiting literacy development in every subject. Re-engagement of students with low literacy levels often associated with PP. 2015/16 3 pupil premium students took advantage of this and were placed with different providers in and around the borough, along with PRU facilities. Students had the chance to gain work experience, vocational qualifications and GCSE /GCSE equivalents. 10 passes were gained in total. In summary for 2016, 2,269 books were read by 312 students which equates to 52,192,620 words - an improvement on the last academic year. Analysing 222 students, the average reading age improvement over term one is 6 months. This is compared with 3 months student contact time in total. Therefore a child at a reading age of 11 years and 6 months in September 2015 now has a reading age of 12 years. In the last 30 days of term one, 40% achieved over 85% on their quiz showing an excellent understanding overall (pass rate = 70%). Targeted intervention is also in place including PP students via the 1 hour reading club.
