1 LCPS Assessment Policy

2 Assessment Procedures Lakeside Community Primary School As of September 2014, the DfE have removed assessing with levels for learners in primary schools. Schools are to be encouraged to create their own non-levels based assessment system. LCPS assessment procedures will be as follows: Learners in the EYFS will continue to be assessed against the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP for short). This consists of Ages and Stages criteria for nursery learners moving into Early Learning Goals for Reception aged learners. For this academic year, ( ) both Year 2 and 6 learners will be assessed against the previous national curriculum as the transition takes place. They will be assessed using the 2013 national curriculum levels. Years 1,3,4 & 5 will be assessed under the new national curriculum standards and in line with the End of Year Expectations for each year group. Rising Stars Progression Framework which is set out in stages (stage1 = year 1 expectations, Stage 2 = Year 2 expectations etc) will be used to assess learners ability.

3 Progression in Learning It is an expectation that every child will progress through the equivalence of 1 stage (beginning, developing, secure) in Reading, Writing and Maths across an academic year. When implementing assessment procedures we need to consider What? When? How? What happens with the data? What? LCPS use a range of assessment materials including Classroom Monitor Markbooks, national curriculum end of year expectations criteria, EYFS exemplification materials, summative assessment materials from Rising Stars and National Sats Tests to inform teaching assessment. This assessment is used to: track learners progress from Y1 through to the end of Y6. track learners progress across EYFS. use diagnostic information about learners strengths and weaknesses. Using the Classroom Monitor Markbooks teachers will record learners progress and make an overall judgement for all learners in Reading, Writing and Maths in KS1 & 2 and in the 17 areas of learning in EYFS at least termly. As the Classroom Monitor system is a live database the assessment is saved and passed on each year throughout a learners schooling. Read Write Inc For learners achieving below level 3 Read Write Inc assessments will be used for Reading half termly. When? Standardisation and Moderation are central activities of the assessment process. They have different functions and occur at different stages in the assessment process. Standardisation is designed to ensure that national standards are understood and can be applied consistently. At LCPS year groups work together and part of their year group working it is an expectation that year group standardise their assessment across the year group regularly. This is monitored through the PPM process. Over transition in the summer term cross year standardisation takes place to ensure standardisation between year groups. Staff training and unit time is also utilised to ensure additional cross year standardisation. Moderation is designed to check that national standards have been applied consistently. At LCPS, the moderation process will take place at least termly through work scrutiny, learning walks and observations by SLT and DoL s for Literacy and Maths.

4 Portfolios of Learning English Every learner in KS2 has a portfolio of learning in English- this consist of an supported piece of writing per half term and any reading assessments completed. Independent Writing Evidence (Rec- Yr2) Each half term an unsupported piece of writing is completed in the yellow writing assessment book. The assessment books are handed up to next year. EYFS learners have a Learning Journey which contains evidence, examples of learning, photographs and observation notes, across the 17 areas. Additional evidence can also be saved within the Classroom Monitor Markbooks. Good Learning Folder- Each learner from Yr1-Yr6 have a good learning folder where, 2 pieces of maths learning and two piece of topic learning are added each term. The Folders are passed up to the next year group. What happens with the data? Attainment data for KS1 & 2 is collected at least half termly for all learners in Maths, Reading and Writing, and termly Science. EYFS data across all 17 areas is collected at least termly. The data is collated using the Classroom Monitor database. LCPS runs a program of Pupil Progress Meetings (PPMs) through the academic year, whereby data on learners attainment and progress is presented to SLT. Year groups present the current assessment data for their year group, both for individuals and groups of learners. The progress made since the start of the year, since the previous PPM and over the key stage is analysed. Target groups are identified and discussion takes place around what interventions/provision is in place to move learning on. Support required from SLT, Maths and Literacy Directors of learning or outside agencies is discussed and used to inform actions for individuals and groups of learners. Targets Green for Growth Targets are set for learners in Reading, Writing and Maths for KS1 & 2 and across the 17 areas for EYFS. Targets are shared with the Directors of Learning on request. Green for Growth targets are shared with the learners so they understand the next steps required in order they make their expected progress.

5 Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) These will continue for learners in Year 2 and Year 6. Summative Assessments KS1 and KS2 learners will complete some form of independent summative assessment in Reading and Maths at least termly to assist the teacher assessments. These assessments will be handed up to the next year group as well as the writing and maths books. Rising Stars optional SAT material, past papers and any other produced tests can be used. Reporting to Parents Sharing information with parents/carers about the progress their child makes in school is crucial. At LCPS we do this in number of ways. Parent/carer meetings in school End of year expectations for each year group is given out to inform parent/carer of the national expectation for learners of that age group. Information regarding where learners are attaining and next step targets are given out regularly or on request of parent/carers. End of Year report a review of the academic year including achievement across the curriculum and next steps to progress.
