3 3 Introduction 1. Introduction MB-AVR-ISP is ISP ( in-system programming ) programmer for Atmel AVR microcontroller family. The hardware is compatible with STK200/300 programmer. All 8- bit Avr's are suported including ATtiny, Classic AVR and ATMega. Features of MB-AVR-ISP : DB25 printer port interface to PC Compatible to STK200/300 programmer Supported under Windows and Linux 3v-5v target power 1m length flat cable 10 pins ISP header (6 pins header using separate adapter board ) 2. Programmer setup Connect programmer to target board and PC when both powered off. From PC side connect programmer to printer port. There is possible to extend PC conection using parallel cable ( 2 m max. ). From target board side connect programmer to ISP header using flat cable. If there is no leading key at ISP header on target board, be careful when connecting programmer. Reverse connection can damage programmer and/or target board. When connected, power on PC and target board. Programmer is provided for operating power voltage 3v - 5v. This voltage is drawn from target board. Is there is no power voltage on target board, you can power programmer using adapter ( available as separate part )

4 Connectors 4 3. Connectors 3.1. ISP 10 pin MB-AVR-ISP is equipded with 10 pins STK200/300 compatible programming header. Using programmer with 6 pins programming header Some Avr systems and development boards are equipped with 6 pins ISP header. In such case a simple adapter is needed ( see schematic below ). The adapter is available as separate part ( MB-ISP-JTAG-ADAPTER ) and is equipped also with socket for external power supply to ISP programmer and target board MOSI PROG RST SCK MISO VTG MISO SCK RST 5 6 VTG MOSI 9 10
