1 The Wee Tram Introduction Thank you for your interest in The Wee Tram. The Wee Tram is a land train offering a hop-on-hop-off guided tour of Belfast s famous Titanic Quarter, using an adapted electric airport tug and carriages as the basis for a unique replica mini-tram which connects the various visitor attractions within Titanic Quarter and providing a heritage attraction in its own right. It will operate 7 days a week from mid-march until the end of October (peak season) and then at weekends from November to February (off peak season). The Wee Tram is designed to carry up to a maximum of 48 passengers at any one time and has accessible features for a wheelchair user. As well as its availability to visitors to the Titanic Quarter during the day (normal hours of operation from 11:00am to 6:00pm), The Wee Tram is also available for group bookings from schools, youth groups, community groups and the corporate sector during the evenings and before the first public run of each day (from 10:00am to 11:00am). The proprietors of The Wee Tram are keen that each visitor and user of The Wee Tram enjoy their experience whilst on board and see their journey as having added excellent value to their time within Belfast. We are therefore seeking a dedicated team to operate The Wee Tram to aid in this endeavour and to see this as an investment in the future of the Titanic Quarter. As more visitors arrive, as more history is uncovered, as vibrant community thrives and visionary businesses boom, a greater need for connectivity will exist and The Wee Tram has a significant role to play in these exciting times. We are therefore looking to recruit a conductor and a team of drivers (minimum 5). The job descriptions and criteria for each are as below. 2 Job description The Wee Tram Conductor Employer Titanic Quarter Connections Limited Job title: The Wee Tram Conductor Location: Titanic Quarter, Belfast Hours of work: A minimum of 10 hours per week (potentially up to 40 hours in peak season) Reporting to: Director of Operations Job purpose A conductor oversees every aspect of the passenger experience whilst on-board the vehicle (identified as The Wee Tram) that carries passengers around an agreed route within Belfast s Titanic Quarter, under the terms of the operating Licence. They are responsible for a wide range of tasks, almost all of them designed to ensure passengers feel welcome, comfortable and safe. Main duties Duties will include issuing tickets, making announcements, looking after passengers who may need special help, including elderly or disabled people, and dealing with unruly passengers. Before the first trip of a shift, conductors will inspect the condition of the vehicle and ready it for service. They fix any minor issues and record problems that require further work. If there is a serious issue, they contact the contracted maintenance agent for repairs and comply with any predetermined special arrangements should the vehicle have experienced a mechanical failure putting it temporarily out of service. A conductor must be aware of The Wee Tram's route ensuring before operation that there are no obstructions or necessary diversions required ( e.g. due to special events occurring from time to time within the area of operation). They must also check that all of The Wee Tram s intended stops are appropriately maintained, changing any signage as requested and when necessary. 2

3 In conjunction with the driver they must monitor the vehicle's condition and composition because it may be affected by the route's condition and the weight of its load. The conductor will also provide supervision to the driver on duty, ensuring the passengers safety as paramount, and that of any other pedestrians and users on the intended route. Making a lodgement at the end of the day / being responsible for cash handling / ensuring float available at the start of the day. Person specification Qualifications and eligibility for the role Essential English and Maths Grade C or above at GCSE and a good standard of general education. Desirable A qualification in customer service. Experience Working in a customer-facing role, and in dealing with members of the general public. Experience in cash and moneyhandling. Experience of working within the tourist industry would be of benefit. Previous supervisory experience. Knowledge Skills Working knowledge of Belfast s Titanic Quarter and its historical significance. Excellent communication skills. High levels of concentration. Teamwork & management. Basic mechanics. Knowledge of other places of interest to tourists in Belfast. First Aid Qualification. Health and safety awareness. Attitude A positive and friendly attitude at all times. Flexibility, particularly with respect to working hours. Calm and hospitable with a customer first mind-set. Positive in use of initiative. 4 Job description The Wee Tram Driver Employer: Titanic Quarter Connections Limited Job title: The Wee Tram Driver Location: Titanic Quarter, Belfast Hours of work: A minimum of 9 hours per week during peak season and 4.5 hours per week during off-peak. Reporting to: Director of Operations Job purpose A driver is responsible for the operation of the vehicle (identified as The Wee Tram) that carries passengers around an agreed route within Belfast s Titanic Quarter, under the terms of the company s operating Licence. Main duties Drivers are responsible for the driving controls, monitoring the speed, battery charge and amperage, ensuring the passengers safety as paramount, and that of any other pedestrians and users on the intended route. Divers must be aware of The Wee Tram's route whilst monitoring the vehicle's condition and composition because it may be affected by the route's condition and the weight of its load. A driver must be in constant communication with The Wee Tram s conductor and must only operate the vehicle under the Conductor s supervision. In addition to scheduled stops along a route, a driver s responsibilities will often include; equipment safety inspections; reporting of safety incidents, equipment issues, hazards and delays; communication with passengers; an awareness of the environment in which they are operating, removing as appropriate any barriers or obstructions to the vehicle s progress. Any other obligations as defined and required by a driver s shift under the Company s direction 4

5 Person specification Qualifications and eligibility for the role Essential Aged 24 or over, as per DVA Licensing requirements. Hold Category D (PCV) fully non-restricted entitlement on a valid driving licence. Desirable A good general standard of education, including English. Experience No experience of driving a land train is necessary as full training will be given. Any form of driving a similar type of vehicle (especially an airport luggage tug). Previous experience of working in the tourist industry. Previous experience working in a role that involved interacting with paying customers. Knowledge There are no specific essential knowledge requirements for this role. Basic mechanics and operation of electrical vehicles. The geography of Belfast s Titanic Quarter. Skills Able to work as part of a team. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to communicate with a diversity of people. Maintain concentration whilst working. Attitude Diligence. Taking care in the exercise of duties safety conscious. Ability to be flexible (especially with respect to working hours). To be reliable and responsible. Open to instruction and direction. 5
