1 TEXAS WOMANS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL THERAPY TENURE AND PROMOTION POLICIES AND CRITERIA The Schl f Physical Therapy has graduate prgrams within the academic structure f the Cllege f Health Sciences at Texas Wman's University. Faculty members in this Schl must meet the demands f a prfessinal prgram which has requirements based n prvisin f prfessinal licensure, quality care t patients, maintenance f individual clinical Criteria fr currency in skill levels as set by the prfessin, and meeting the requirements f prfessinal accreditatin agencies fr cntinuatin f the prgram. T meet these demands, members f the faculty shuld demnstrate excellence in teaching, schlarly activities, and significant service t the university and the prfessinal cmmunity. Faculty members in physical therapy generally teach in the clinical dmain, the basic science dmain r bth. Optins fr meeting prmtin and/r tenure requirements will be available at all levels fr tenure track and clinical track faculty. GENERAL CRITERIA THAT APPLY TO ALL FACULTY 1. Appintment t this faculty will include the requirement f a degree in physical therapy, at least tw years f clinical experience, and current licensure as a physical therapist in Texas. Under certain circumstances, these requirements may be waived fr individuals teaching basic science cntent and fr ther medical r prfessinal specialists. 2. Fr tenure track appintments, an earned academic dctrate in physical therapy r a related field is necessary. These related fields include but are nt limited t neurscience, rehabilitatin science, health prmtin and wellness, and educatin. Fr clinical track appintments, a Dctr f Physical Therapy (DPT) degree r an academic dctrate is necessary. A dctral candidate may be cnsidered fr temprary appintment as a visiting faculty member. 3. Faculty members seeking prmtin at a1l 1evels f either the tenure track r clinical track will exceed minimal criteria in teaching, schlarship, and service. 4. Clinical track faculty members may be eligible fr prmtin but nt fr tenure. 5. The prvisin f evidence f merit fr prmtin and/r tenure will be the respnsibility f the faculty member (the candidate). The candidate must submit all required dcuments t the peer review cmmittee (PRC) accrding t the University Guidelines and the Calendar fr Prmtin and Tenure. 6. A candidate fr prmtin and/r tenure will submit a prtfli that fllws the University Guidelines fr Prmtin and/r Tenure Prtfli set frth by the University. 7. The pririties and gals f the candidate and the prgram will be cnsidered by the PRC when evaluating the prtfli and in determining its recmmendatins fr prmtin and/r tenure t the prgram administratr (Directr/Assciate Directr f the Schl). Outstanding perfrmance in all three areas f evaluatin (teaching, schlarship and service) is nt necessary fr prmtin and/r tenure. 1

2 GENERAL CRITERIA FOR TENURE The Bard f Regents f the Texas Wman' s University, upn the recmmendatin f the Chancellr, may grant tenure t full-time faculty members f the Schl f Physical Therapy, Cllege f Health Sciences, based upn the prvisin f criteria set frth belw. Minimum Criteria fr Tenure 1. The candidate must have an academic dctral degree. 2. If seeking bth prmtin and tenure, the candidate must meet the requirements fr prmtin in rder t receive tenure. 3. If seeking tenure at the current rank, the candidate must meet the requirements fr the current rank as described in the prmtin sectin and demnstrate evidence f nging cntributins t teaching, schlarship, and service during the pst-appintment perid as well as the ptential fr future cntributin. 4. The candidate must demnstrate cllegiality within the Schl, as exhibited by the ability t share ideas, wrk cperatively, and participate in shared decisin making with: (a) faculty in departmental meetings and cmmittees, (b) cmmittee members n student advising and research cmmittees, and (c) ther faculty. Cllegiality als includes prviding prfessinal supprt t ther faculty members as they attempt t carry ut their wrk and develp themselves prfessinally. 2

Have a minimum f seven years f clinical practice is required as well as, if applicable, natinal certificatin in a clinical specialty area. Have a minimum f six years f teaching experience in the clinical area(s) f expertise is preferred. Maintain current clinical expertise in teaching area(s); Demnstrate excellence in all aspects f teaching; Demnstrate leadership in the develpment f academic prgrams; Obtain/maintain assciate/full membership n the Graduate Faculty, as apprpriate; Serve as a resurce t ther faculty.
